1 . Since 12th May, a computer virus (病毒) named WannaCry has infected (感染) more than 300,000 computers in over 150 countries, according to Reuters.

WannaCry is spread by using a weakness in Microsoft’s Windows operating system. Once the virus gets into the computer, it locks all the papers and asks the user for money to unlock them. At first, it asks for $300, but if the user doesn’t send the money in 72 hours, the price doubles. Papers are locked forever if the user doesn’t pay in seven days.

The virus has brought bad results. For example in the UK, the virus left the country’s National Health Service in a mess. Some hospitals had to cancel (取消) patient appointments (预约), reported The Telegraph. In China, the virus has hit thousands of computers, according to Qihoo 360. One of the most hard-hit groups in China was university users. Many students’ graduation papers were locked. They felt nervous and frightened. Also many gas stations were seriously hit, and the payment system didn’t work.

WannaCry is the latest example of a cyber security (网络安全) problem. Matthew Hickey (who set up the security company Hacker House) said, “The attack is not surprising. It shows that many organizations do not use updates (更新) fast enough.” According to a survey, nearly half of the people said, “We are not satisfied with the way software updates work.”

As China Daily wrote, “We can’t completely protect our computers against these kinds of viruses, as this cat and mouse game will continue forever. The best choice for most users is to take care online and always install (安装) software updates.”

根据短文内容,判断句子正(T)误(F)。
1. If your papers are locked by WannaCry, you need to pay $ 600 to unlock them in 3 days.

2 . Are you happy most of the time? Or do you easily get angry sometimes? Everyone has a different temperament. It is usually believed that both genes and environment may influence people’s temperaments in different ways. Scientists have found that the season of the birth also plays a role.

Scientists from Budapest, Hungary, studied 400 university students. In the study, the students needed to finish some questions to know which of four kinds of temperaments they most had. From the questions, scientists found that the students always answered something like “My mood often changes for no reason.” and “I love to deal with new projects, even if it is risky.” These answers were then connected with their birthdays.

They discovered that people born in summer easily change between sad and happy moods compared to people born in winter. Those who always feel positive are mostly born in spring and summer.

The study also found that those born in fall less probably had a mood of depression which may easily drive them to cry, while those in winter were not easier to be angry.

Scientists said that this was probably because the seasons had an influence on certain chemicals in the human body. And the chemicals are important to control people’s moods even in adult life. “It seems that when you are born may increase or decrease your chance of developing certain mood disorders.” scientist Xenia Gonda told the Telegraph.

根据上文内容判断正(T)误(F)
1. Ages probably may influence people’s temperaments according to paragraph 1.
2. The underlined word “depression” most probably means sadness.

3 . A few days ago, I received a letter from my Aunt Loraine.

It was a handwritten letter thanking me for some Shanghai cookies I had sent her. Aunt Lorraine is ninety-one years old and she has wonderful manners. That is why she sent me the “thank you” letter. She also has wonderful handwriting. Her penmanship (书法) is smooth. It is a pleasure to read.

Aunt Lorraine was educated half a century ago. At that time, penmanship was considered an important skill. Now, it is the age of e-mail and social media. Few people have the time or hope to practice their penmanship or write letters by hand.

This is not good. in my view, good penmanship still counts. This is especially true in school. If you want to get good grades, keeping your writing clean and beautiful will be important. Your writing might be full of good ideas. However, terrible handwriting can turn an A into a B. Awful handwriting can get you a D!

Good penmanship has other advantages, too. Since it's a skill, it trains your brain and develops your learning abilities. It also helps you organize your thoughts. And, believe it or not, that slow process of pushing a pen along paper improves your reading, spelling and even your pronunciation of English.

Apart from all these educational advantages, good penmanship also has personal advantages.   A beautifully written letter to a friend is something he or she will treasure forever. A letter that looks as if a chicken bad danced across the paper will be quickly thrown away. I have kept the letter from my Aunt Lorraine. It's a great treasure!

1. Why did Aunt Lorraine write a letter to the author?
A.To express her thanks.B.To show her wonderful manners.
C.To make herself pleased.D.To set a good example to the author.
2. According to the author, which of the following is NOT the advantage of good handwriting?
A.Getting good grades on your writing.B.Organizing your thoughts.
C.Making your writing full of good ideas.D.Improving your English pronunciation.
3. The underlined part in the last paragraph is used to describe ________.
A.a boring letterB.a great treasureC.bad handwritingD.good penmanship
4. What does the author want to do by writing this article?
A.To express the importance of clean and beautiful handwriting.
B.To share her pleasure of hearing from her aunt.
C.TO talk about her experiences of practicing penmanship.
D.To encourage people to write litters by hand instead of e-mailing.

4 . Hardship comes in different shapes and sizes: losing a job, bills overdue, illness, injuries or the death of a loved one.

Every kind of difficulty takes its toll. But few things in life are as heartbreaking as feeling cut off from the people we love.

Recently, while "sheltering in place" against the coronavirus, I've started reading to my grandchildren via Face Time before they went to sleep.

Mostly, I read to them because I love doing it. But I also do it for their parents' mental health. Besides having to stay indoors, they are forced to homeschool the kids, who can't go to school or to the park or play with their friends.

As a mother, I didn't do everything right. Far from it. But when my three children were small, most nights before bed, I would read to them.

There is something important — something comforting and healing — about the age-old ritual of reading to each other. Sometimes the words we read are so powerful that they will never be forgotten. But hearing them read is a different experience.

When we read to ourselves, we see the words with our eyes. But when someone reads to us, we just need to be still and listen. Sometimes, the voice and the love it carries mean far more than the words.

Today, I read the Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume, a book my kids loved long ago. Randy, 9, and Wiley, 7, thought it was funny. Elle, who's 5, usually prefers to read to me, but this time she just wanted to talk. Next, Randy played a song for us on his guitar, the very first song he has written. Finally, I Face Timed with Jonah, who is almost a year old. I read MOO, BAA, LA LA LA! He liked it so much that he gave me kisses over the phone, then we said goodnight.

Now, more than ever, while keeping a safe distance, we all need to hold on to each other.

6 . Have you ever heard the phrase “You never get a second chance to make a first impression (印象)?” It may sound like an unusual suggestion, but it is true—the first impression someone has of you when meeting you for the first time will probably influence how that person treats you or reacts (回应) to you in the future.

What is even more interesting is that the brain takes in all the information to create that first impression in about three seconds. When you meet someone for the first time, by the time you have stated your name or shaken hands, the other person has already formed an opinion about the kind of person you are.

So how do you make a good first impression? All things grown-ups (成年人) tell you—such as being polite, and being well-dressed—are very important. However, the most important tool for making a good first impression is your face. Smiling, being responsive, and looking like you are happy will almost always leave a positive (积极的) impression on people, especially those who do not know you. Most people, generally speaking, are ready to smile back when they are smiled at.

Furthermore, smiling and being in a positive mood helps you to know and get a better understanding of new things. This means that you can possibly be friendlier to people you do not know and be more creative and able to solve problems more quickly. So if you ever need a reason to be happy, think about the wonderful people you might meet—and impress—with a cheerful smile.

1. The first impression someone has of you will probably influence how that person______.
A.treats you or reacts to youB.likes you
C.refuses youD.understands you
2. Which paragraph shows how soon others form opinions on you?
A.Paragraph 1.B.Paragraph 2.C.Paragraph 3.D.Paragraph 4.
3. What is the most important to leave good impressions?
A.Shaking hands.B.Stating your name.
C.Dressing nicely.D.Wearing a smile.
4. What can be learned from the last paragraph?
A.Friendliness helps solve problems.
B.Being positive helps you find a way out.
C.There are many reasons to be happy.
D.Thinking of great people cheers you up.
5. What would be the best title for the text?
A.The First Impression Does Count(重要)B.Smiling Makes the First Impression
C.Manners Leave Deep ImpressionsD.Impressions Decide Who You Are

7 . My children are growing up fast. My daughter is 16 and my boy is already in junior high school. As they get bigger, our house seems to get smaller. So we want to sell some of our things in a yard sale(庭院拍卖会) and give the money to a children’s home.

We have already cleared out a lot of things from our bedrooms. We have decided to each sell five things that we no longer use. My son was quite sad at first. Although he has not played with his old toys for a long time, he still wanted to keep them. For example, he has owned a train and railway set since his fourth birthday, and he played with it almost every week until he was about seven. And he did not want to lose his toy monkey, either. He slept next to the monkey every night when he was a child. My daughter was more understanding, although she also felt sad to part with(出让) certain toys, and my wife wouldn’t like to lose her scarfs which were out of fashion.

As for me, I did not want to give up my football shirts, but, to be honest, I have not played for a while now. I am getting older, too!

8 .

We all waste food, you and me, every day, millions of tons of it. In China, enough food is wasted in restaurants every year to feed 200 million people. And the amount of food wasted by Chinese consumers is increasing fast. So our nation is being encouraged to stop wasting food.

So what should Chinese consumers do to prevent food waste?

♦ Keep a kitchen diary

All of us should keep a kitchen diary, and we can know that how much food we waste at home. The first thing for us to do is to stop throwing away food that we can still eat. We should eat everything we buy and if we cannot, we should buy less.

♦ Buy only what we need

We should ask for smaller portions in stores. We should also check how much food we have before buying more. We shouldn’t bring much food we don’t need home even if large posters ask us to do so.

♦ Develop the habit of packing food

Chinese consumers are generous and friendly. In restaurants, often too much food is ordered and served. So when ordering out, we are supposed to exclude the food in the order if we don’t plan to eat it. And order smaller servings in restaurants and take home what we cannot finish.

Don’t put it off! Let’s stop food waste today!

1. Why is our nation being encouraged to stop wasting food?
A.Because there’s enough food for Chinese people.

9 . Do you want to eat every delicious food in the world? Then do you watch the popular program? "A Bite of China(舌尖上的中国)" is a documentary on Chinese delicious food which has been broadcasted by Chinese central television. Is there any holiday that isn't celebrated with a special festival food? Here are several traditional Chinese foods.

Eggs hold a special meaning in many cultures. The Chinese believe eggs mean producing something new. After a baby is born, parents may hold a "red egg and ginger party," where they pass out eggs to announce the birth. In some areas of China the number of eggs represents(代表)the sex of the child, for example, an odd number(1,3,5,..) for a girl, and an even number(2,4,6…) for a boy .

Noodles are a symbol of long life in Chinese culture. They are a part of a Chinese birthday celebration as a birthday cake in many countries. Since noodles represent long life, it is considered very unlucky to cut it off.

In China a whole fish is a symbol of richness. In fact, at a party it is traditional to serve the whole fish last. Fish also has a special meaning because the Chinese word for fish sounds like the word for richness or plenty, and it is believed that eating fish will help your wishes come true in the year to come.

A very popular dish during the Dragon Boat Festival is Zongzi. This tasty dish is made of rice dumplings with meat, peanuts or other delicious food in bamboo leaves. Zongzi will remind us of the great man Qu Yuan.

The 50-minute program tries to bring something new by presenting more cultural elements(元素),such as eating habits and the quality of eating.

10 . Dear Nancy’s parents,

My daughter had a bullying (欺凌) problem a couple of years ago. It wasn’t easy, but I ended it. When things are a serious as you describe, it is no time to be silent. These kids probably know each other from school, so take the rude text messages sent by the bully directly to the headmaster and show him. Describe to him how it is affecting your 13-year- old daughter. Tell him you will not stand it and you want him to put an end to it now.

Bullying is a dangerous and serious offense these days, and any good headmaster will take your charges seriously. He will probably address the issues with the parents. If they are crappy parents, then they may do nothing to their child. You may have to repeat this process several times, but you need to keep a check on those text messages and don’t allow your child to delete them.

Now is the time to draw your child close and take care of her, because she needs it. My daughter did not like me being involved(参与的)either, but you are the only hope she has of solving this problem, so do it and mean business. Always be polite but straightforward. The headmaster and the parents must know you mean business.

If repeated meetings with the headmaster (and parents, if he allows it) does not solve the problem, then I would consider hiring a lawyer. That will send the message across loud and clear. When you are talking about financial loss, most parents will stand up and take notice and act to keep their kid under control!

Good luck — I wish you the best in this terrible situation.

Yours,

Rachel
