Beijing Opera, also called Peking Opera, is our national opera. It came into being(形成) after 1790 and has a history of over 200 years. Its music and singing came from Xipi and Erhuang in Anhui and Hubei. The Guangxu Emperor (帝王) and Empress Dowager Cixi were also crazy about Beijing Opera and helped develop the art form.
There are four main roles in Beijing Opera: Sheng, Dan, Jing, Chou. Sheng is the leading male (男性) actor. For example, a Wusheng is a soldier or fighter. A Xiaosheng is a young man. A Laosheng is an old man with beard (胡子). Dan is the female (女性) role. Jing, mostly male, is the face painted role and Chou is the comedy (喜剧) actor or clown (小丑).

10 . Food waste has become a big problem these days. In China alone, 17 to 18 million tons of food were wasted a year from 2013 to 2015. That could feed 30 to 50 million people for a whole year.
However, more and more people are making an effort to make a difference. Taking pictures of an empty plate is becoming popular in the dining hall at Shenzhen University (SZU), a report by Shenzhen Economic Daily showed.
According to the Daily, Tencent is now working with SZU to introduce AI technology to a campaign (活动) on WeChat to encourage “clear your plate”. The campaign is to cut down food waste and encourage students to save food.
After finishing a meal, students can take photos of their plates and send them to the AI system (系统). Once their photos are accepted, students can get a reward (奖励). Tencent’s AI Lab provides technological support for the campaign. It takes less than one second for the system to check a photo. A total of 20,000 students at SZU took part in the second period of the campaign on Monday and Tuesday. And the food waste has dropped greatly after the campaign was started.
“By using AI technology to encourage the “clear your plate” campaign, our university can have a better understanding of students’ role in the campaign so as to carry out a rewarding system for keeping students interested in it,” said Xu Xiaoling from SZU’s student department, “We hope our efforts can start a new trend (趋势) among the younger generation, encouraging them to carry out the virtue (美德) of valuing food and developing the habit of thrift.”
