2 . What is 5G? It is the fifth generation (代) of mobile network technology. These new networks are coming.
China issued commercial license (发放商用牌照) for 5G on June 6, 2019. This means that China’s Telecom (中国电信) companies have been able to offer 5G networks to mobile phone users.
Each mobile network generation is faster and more powerful than the one before it. 1G let us talk to each other. 2G let us send messages. 3G gave us data (数据) and the Internet. And 4G made all of these things faster. What’s special about 5G?
5G has a very short delay (延时) between sending and receiving information. Now, 4G takes about 100 to 200 milliseconds (毫秒) to send and receive data. But 5G will reduce the delay to 1 millisecond or less. This big change will not only make our mobile Internet faster, but also deeply change our lives.
Entertainment (娱乐)
5G networks are about 100 times faster than 4G. This means you can download (下载) a movie in seconds.
Transportation
5G will also bring us safer self-driving cars. These cars can send signals (信号) to each other. 5G will allow cars to react (反应) even faster than real drivers.
Smarthomes
5G also makes the Internet of Things possible. Internet of Things is a large network that connects everything to the Internet. Smarthomes are part of it. For example, if its sensor feels the air becoming dry, a smart sprinkler (洒水器) can water your plants by itself.

4 . Someday in the future we may not need to have money in our pockets. Is life easier when people don’t need to carry any money? Maybe in the future each of us will have only one small credit card. We will use it instead of money to buy all the things.
Of course we may still have some of the same problems with cards we now have with money. For example, we lose money from time to time. Maybe we will lose the cards. Maybe someone will take the cards. Someone may even make a card that looks like our cards. Since we can’t buy anything without our cards, the credit cards may be no better than money.
Is there something easier to use than credit cards? Each of us has a thumbprint(拇指指纹). No two thumbprints are the same. Maybe someday the government will keep people’s thumbprints with a number. When you want to buy something, you will put your thumb on a machine or a computer. Each store will posses one. Everyone’s thumbprints will be in the computer. It will be difficult to lose our thumbprints! It will be difficult for someone to steal it or to make one like it.

5 . Earlier this year, China achieved a new milestone(里程碑) in space exploration. On Jan 3, Chang'e 4 became the first space probe(探测器) in history to successfully land on the far side (dark side) of the moon. After a 26-day journey, it touched softly down on a crater. The whole process of landing lasted 12 minutes, which opened a new page in history of mankind's space exploration.
The far side of the moon is the side that we can not see. We don't know much about it. This landing is of great importance. The far side of the moon is an ideal (理想的 ) place for scientific research. It may have unique minerals (矿物质 ) and other resources. Scientists can make clearer observations of deep space from there.
Chang'e 4 has sent back photos of the far side of the moon. It is also being used to carry out experiments. The data (数据 ) collected from these experiments could be used to help us build a base on the moon in the future. The success of the Chang'e 4 mission (任务 ) is a major achievement for China's space program.
China launched its lunar (月球的 ) exploration program in 2004, naming it Chang'e. Chinese scientists set three goals—“orbiting (环绕运行 ) , landing and sample (样本 ) returning”. Chang'e 4 has realized the second goal. The third will be achieved during the Chang'e 5 mission, which is set to take place before the end of this year.
Following the success of the Chang'e missions, Chinese scientists are looking even farther into our solar system (太阳系 ) . China's first Mars mission is expected to be carried out by 2020.

9 . When you’re not at home, many worries may start to come into your mind. Did I lock the door? Are the kids doing their homework or watching television? With a smart home, you can quit all of these worries.
A smart home is a home with a communication network. This network connects devices(装置), such as TV sets, and allows people to control from far away through mobile phone communication.
More and more people may start to consider owning a smart home, because it makes life much more comfortable. It can help keep your room at a certain temperature. It can record what happens inside the home and send the video to your phone. When you are on vacation abroad, you can use a smart home controller to turn on or off the power when necessary. They can even feed the cat and water the plants.
Moreover, smart homes are easy to fix. Most smart home technology and devices are wireless(无线的)and can be set up with simple tools, using only the guiding information.
However, for home-users, the smart home technology is far from perfect. It can be very expensive to own the technology and the devices. Also, because the smart home system allows its owner to get home information from anywhere, it leaves the home easy to be attacked by hackers(黑客).
Now, many scientists are excited at the future of smart home technology. Imagine being able to get fashion advice from your mirror(镜子), or receive food shopping suggestions from your fridge, while there are others who worry that those smart devices will make people lazier and lonelier. Whatever it is, one thing is for sure—smart home technology will change the way we live and work.
