London is a great city for shopping. Go to the large shops     1     the middle of the city,     2     you can buy food and drink, clothes, furniture and things as well as     3     (computer) for your home easily, all in the same building. London is famous for     4     (it) clothes shops, for men and women, especially for young people. The street markets     5     (be) good fun too. You can buy bags, T-shirts, scarves and presents     6     (take) back home. If you are     7     lover of delicious food, you can try food from all over the world in the street markets. In fact, you can buy anything from anywhere around the world     8    you go shopping in London. London is a     9     (real) good place. So, are you looking forward to     10     (visit) it?

5 . Like all big cities, Paris has a traffic problem: lots of cars, lots of traffic jams and lots of pollution from exhaust fumes (废气). So in 2007, the city began a plan to improve the s    1    .

Under the Velib plan people can take a bicycle, use it for as long as they want, and then leave it at the same or a    2     bicycle station. The first half-hour on the bike is free, but if you don’t r    3     it after 30 minutes, you have to pay. But it’s only €1 a day or €29 a year! The bicycles are h    4     (25kg), and they are all grey and have baskets. There are about 20,000 of t    5     in the city, and around 1,450 bicycle stations.

Paris is not the f    6     city to have a project like this—not even in France, where Lyon started a “free” bicycle plan many years ago. And not everybody thinks it’s a great idea. One Parisian said, “These bicycles are only for short journeys. If people want to t    7     across the city, they won’t use a bicycle—they’ll still use their cars.”

A city spokesman said, “The bicycle project won’t solve all our traffic problems, of course. But it might help reduce(减少) air pollution levels in the atmosphere.

Everyone know about global warming and great climate changes—this is partly b    8     there’s so much pollution in the world. The bikes might help people to lead a much h    9     life. There aren’t any simple answers to traffic problems and pollution in cities. But if we don’t anything now, there will be more traffic jams and temperatures will continue to r    10    , so the problems in our environment will get worse.”

7 . What does travelling mean? Visit, enjoy and discover.

Every year a large number of people come to the UK. And London, the capital city is usually their first s    1    . What can they see? What can they experience?

Getting around London is not d    2    . There is the underground train, the oldest in the w    3    , or the traditional double-decker bus. A boat trip along the River Thames t    4     you to the Tower of London.

Going around the city center on foot is easy. The maps in the streets will show you w    5     is around you in a five-minute walk. A fire burned this famous     3     （教堂）many years ago, but one wall still remains.     4     （游客）from all over the world come to visit it.

9 . Stonehenge, a rock circle, is not only one of Britain’s most famous historical places but also one of its greatest mysteries.

Every year more than 750, 000 v    1     go there. People like to go to this place especially in June b    2     they want to see the sun rising on the longest day of the year.

For many years, historians believed Stonehenge was a temple (寺庙) where ancient leaders tried to c    3     with the gods. However, historian Paul Stoker thinks this can’t be t    4     because Stonehenge was built so many centuries ago. “The leaders arrived in England much later, ” he pointed out.

Another popular idea is that Stonehenge might be a kind of calendar (日历). The large stones were put together i    5     a certain way.

On midsummer morning, the sun shines directly into the center of the stones. Other people believe the stones have a m    6     purpose. They think the stones can prevent illness and keep people healthy. “As you walk there, you can feel the energy from your feet move up your b    7    . ” said one visitor. Stonehenge was built slowly over a long period of time. Most historians believe it must be almost 5, 000 years old. One of the greatest mysteries is how it was built because the stones are so big and heavy. In 2001, a group of English volunteers tried to build another Stonehenge, but they couldn’t, “we don’t r    10     know who built Stonehenge,” says Paul Stoker. “And perhaps we might never know, but we do know they must have been hard-working—and great planners!”
