5 . After working as a backup (后补的) crew member for 24 years, Chinese astronaut Deng Qingming’ s dream is finally coming true—he is performing his first space mission onboard the Shenzhou XV spaceship with two other astronauts Fei Junlong and Zhang Lu. They started on November 29th, 2022.
Deng Qingming, 57 years old, was born in a farming family in East China’s Jiangxi Province. He has four younger brothers and sisters. As a hard-working student, Deng joined the PLA Air Force in June 1984 and started training as a pilot at a flight colloge in Hebei Province. After he graduated in November 1987, the young pilot went to a fighter jet regiment (战斗机团) in Jilin Province. He became the first member of the PLA Astronaut Division in January 1998 with 13 other pilots, but Deng is also the last one of the country’s first group of 14 astronauts to be sent into space. After joining the PLA Astronaut Division, Deng spent almost all of his time training and has hoped to fly into space. He was a backup crew member for the Shenzhou IX, X, XI and XIII missions (任务). “Being a backup doesn’t mean you don’t need to work. Only when the crew returns to Earth will my mission be finished.” Deng once said. When training for Shenzhou XI mission in 2016, Deng and another astronaut had to stay in a spacecraft simulator no bigger than 10 square meters for 33 days. They had no showers and stood loud noise and strong light as they tried to sleep. No matter how difficult the road to space is, Deng never once thought of giving up.
He is a great hero and people all like him very much.

7 . In a primary school, students in Grade Five are learning how to cook a meal in the cooking class. Working in groups of four or five, the students take their work very seriously and make delicious food.
From Sept.1, 2021, students at primary and middle schools across China had a different new term. They were surprised to find there were more activities after 3:30 p.m. They could enjoy arts, traditional culture, science and technology activities without leaving school. They also found they didn’t have to bring much homework back home.
The changes came after the “double reduction” policy (双减政策) in July, 2021. It expects to solve the problems in school education, such as too much homework and after-school training.
One year has passed. Great changes in education have taken place all over the country. “My child finishes his homework at school, so we often read books and listen to music together in the evening. Sometimes we go out to play basketball,” said a parent of a fifth-grader.
The teachers’ teaching styles have also changed. “Since the introduction of the ‘double reduction’ policy, I always leave 15 minutes of each 40-minute class to my students. They can finish their homework and take in what they have learned that day,” a teacher said.
