The Secret of happiness

1     Money and success alone do not bring lasting (长久的) happiness. Happiness depends on ourselves. In other words, we make our own happiness. Here are a few suggestions to help you be happier.

2     Too often, we spend so much time thinking about the future—for example, getting into college or getting a good job that we fail to enjoy the present (现在). You should enjoy life’s simple pleasures, such as reading a good book, listening to your favorite music, or spending time with close friends.     3

Another secret to leading a happy life is to be active, and have hobbies that can help you forget your problems. Many people experience this by dancing or playing a sport, such as skating or playing.     4

Finally, many people find happiness in helping others. According to studies, people feel good when they volunteer their time to help others.     5     You can help a friend with his or her lessons, go shopping to buy food for your family members, or simply help out around the house by washing the dishes.

A.The second secret of happiness is to do more exercise.
B.If you want to feel happier, do something nice for someone.
C.People who have brothers and sisters are happier than others.
D.The first secret of happiness is to enjoy the simple things in life.
E.Most people want to be happy, but few knows how to find happiness.
F.People who have several close friends live happier and healthier lives.
G.You can forget about your problems, and only think about the activity.

3 . Exploring Psychology

Psychology is the scientific study of the mind and behavior. Gaining a richer and deeper understanding of psychology can help people achieve insights into their own actions as well as a better understanding of other people.     1

One important benefit from a psychology major is that it teaches the student about the human mind and why people act in various manners. Not all psychology majors will become psychologists.     2     All people must interact with others whether it is at home or at a workplace. People respond to these interactions in a wide number of ways. For instance, the person may not know why he or she is bothered by a specific action at work. However, the person who has studied psychology has an obvious advantage in this area.

Psychology also offers the individual insight into himself or herself. As the person learns about the human mind, how it works and why people behave in specific manners, the person may also begin to recognize both harmful and helpful thought patterns in himself or herself.

This may lead the person to an increased level of self-awareness.     3     It also shows the person where he or she possesses strength and crucial skills for the modern world. Individuals who are more self-aware are more likely to accomplish their goals and dreams.

4     A person may enter a vast field where psychologists and those trained in psychology work. These areas include industrial psychology, school psychology, private practice, organizational behavioral fields, law enforcement and virtually every other field.

5     As stated, there are a number of career opportunities from which a psychology major may choose.

A.Self-awareness is a vital skill for any person to have.
B.It shows the individual what areas the person needs to strengthen.
C.As a result, psychology becomes an incredibly popular college major.
D.A psychology major examines the science of human behavior and mental processes.
E.All fields have the opportunity to benefit from the guidance that psychology can offer.
F.The third reason why psychology is a useful major is that it opens up a wide range of career opportunities.
G.However, all psychology majors will develop an increased awareness about human behavior and thought patterns.

As we know, there are differences between Western culture and Chinese culture.     1     Let’s look at some words about animals and plants.

Most expressions in China about the dog, for example, “a homeless dog” “a mad dog” “a running dog” and “a dog catching a mouse”, have bad meanings.     2     In English, people use the dog to describe good actions. For example, “you are a lucky dog” means you are a lucky person. And “every dog has its day” means each person has good luck sometimes. To describe a person’s serious illness, they say “sick as a dog”. The word “dog-tired” means very tired.     3     But in Western culture, “cat” is often used to describe a woman who is unkind. There are many other examples of how “cat” is used differently as well.

We can see similarities when we pay attention to the way words are used. People think the rose stands for love, peace, courage and friendship.     4         5     We can learn about many differences in cultures by comparing how some words are used.

A.However, the Chinese love cats very much.
B.The words about plants and animals are used in good or bad ways in different cultures
C.We can see differences when we pay attention to the way words are used.
D.However, Westerners love cats very much.

Reasons Why Physical Education is Important in School

Are you looking for information about the importance of physical education in schools and why it should be emphasized? Do you want a healthy active lifestyle for your kids? Then this article can help you convince your kids that exercising and participation especially in school PE classes are important.

It’s a link to good health.

1     It’s only in physical education classrooms that students learn the value of taking care of themselves through proper healthy eating and regular exercise.

It’s preventive measure against diseases.

2     Without any forms of diet management and control with the numerous processed foods students intake every day, a student’s health can easily be at risk of many diseases. Physical education in schools is a preventive measure to teach students the value of regular exercise.

3     Physical health allows students to function even better in classrooms. A good cardiovascular (心血管的) system developing from regular exercise promotes excellent blood and oxygen circulation. This means more nutrients circulate throughout the body which includes the brain. This circulation produces longer attention time during classes allowing longer concentration and better absorption.

It builds self-esteem.

Students who are active in physical activities like basketball, volleyball and running are more confident with themselves according to most social school studies.     4     In school, the physical education program introduces these sport activities to students allowing them to make choices of which sport areas they want to get involved in.

5     Most physical education programs are holistic. The program allows students to interact together to a common goal, that is, to win and excel physically. It not only brings out the competitive sides of students working with both body and mind but also promotes sportsmanship.

It promotes a physically active lifestyle.

The purpose of physical education is to instill (逐渐灌输) in students, at an early age, the value of self-preservation and choosing a lifestyle that is good for both the mind and body.

A.Physical education plays a vital role in students’ development and growth.
B.It’s a program for muscle strength and fitness.
C.It’s probably because of the dedication made to a sport that brings out the best in students.
D.It develops cooperation, teamwork and sportsmanship.
E.The value of physical fitness cannot be overstated too much.
F.It promotes academic learning.
G.Many doctors today agree that obesity is a serious health risk.
