If the weather is bad you might turn to the Entertainment Section of a newspaper to see what movies are on. Sunday afternoon is good time for seeing film, but movies are rather expensive in New York, so making good choice may take time and care. Read the movie reviews to discover what the critics(批评家) have to say. No one wants to make an expensive mistake, nor does anyone want to stand in line a long time, which is very possible if the movie is new and gets good reviews. If you’re not sure that there is a movie interesting enough for you, look at the museum listings to see what exhibitions are on in town. Some museums are free, others are not.

But if the weather is good, you might glance through the section which lists outdoor activities. Almost every Sunday in the springtime some residential neighborhoods (居民区) will request permission from the Police Department to close off street for “street fairs”.There will be food for sale made by local residents or restaurants, handicrafts (工艺品) for sale, music provided by local band (often high school kids) and perhaps dancing. If the fair is in Little Italy you can expect to find tasty Italian food, pizza in cafes, imported Italian leather goods and traditional Italian music and performances. If the fair is in Chinatown, you can expect to find egg rolls, music played on the erhu (二胡) and dragon dances.

2 . On a trip to California, my family stopped for lunch. As we walked toward the entrance to the restaurant, a man, with a messy beard and dirty hair, jumped up from a bench and opened the door for us. Regardless of his _________, he greeted us in a _________ way.

3 . I was blind, but I was ashamed of it if it was known. I refused to use a white stick and hated asking for help. After all, I was a teenager girl, and I couldn’t bear people to look at me and think I was not like them. I must have been a terrible danger on the roads. Coming across me wandering through the traffic, motorists probably would have to step rapidly on their brakes. Apart from that, there were all sorts of disasters that used to occur on the way to and from work.

One evening, I got off the bus about halfway home where I had to change buses, and as usual I ran into something, “I’m awfully sorry,” I said and stepped forward only to run into it again. When it happened a third time, I realized I had been apologizing to a lamppost. This was just one of the stupid things that constantly happened to me. So I carried on and found the bus stop, which was a request stop, where the bus wouldn’t stop unless passengers wanted to get on or off. No one else was there and I had to try to guess if the bus had arrived.

Generally in this situation, because I hated showing I was blind by asking for help, I tried to guess at the sound. Sometimes I would stop a big lorry and stand there feeling stupid as it drew away. In the end, I usually managed to swallow my pride and ask someone at the stop for help.

But on this particular evening no one joined me at the stop. It seemed that everyone had suddenly decided not to travel by bus. Of course I heard plenty of buses pass or I thought I did. But because l had given up stopping them for fear of making a fool of myself, I let them all go by, I stood there alone for half an hour without stopping one. Then I gave up. I decided to walk on to the next stop.

6 . Too often young people get themselves employed quite by accident, not knowing what lies in the way of opportunity for promotion, happiness and security. As a result, they are employed in doing jobs that afford them little or no satisfaction. Our school leavers face so much competition that they seldom care what they do as long as they can earn a living. Some stay long at a job and learn to like it; others leave one for another looking for something to suit them. The young graduates who leave the university look for jobs that offer a salary up to their expectation.

Very few go out into the world knowing exactly what they want and realizing their own abilities. The reason behind all this confusion is that there never has been a proper vocational (职业的) guidance in our educational institution. Nearly all feel their way in the dark. Their chief concern when they look for a job is to ask what salary is like. They never bother to think whether they are suited for the job or, even more important, whether the job suits them. Having a job is more than merely providing yourself and your dependants (受赡养者) with daily bread and some money for leisure and entertainment. It sets a pattern of life and, in many ways, determines social status in life, selection of friends, leisure and interest.

In choosing a profession you should first consider the type of work which will suit your interest. Nothing is more pathetic than taking on a job in which you have no interest, for it will not only ruin your talents but also discourage your desire to succeed in life.

Claude Monet

Claude Monet started the Impressionist movement that completely changed the face of French painting in the second half of the 19th century. He first started out with selling charcoal pictures in Paris and started painting with oil after meeting Eugene Boudin. Eugene, who taught him to use oil paints, also encouraged him to paint outdoors. Later he mastered the technique and painted with his own style.

Vincent van Gogh

Vincent van Gogh was a post-Impressionist French painter of Dutch origin, whose work had a huge influence on the 20th century art. His early works consisted more of somber（忧伤的）earth tones. However, influenced by Gauguin, Monet, Pissarro, and Bernard, he adopted brighter colors in his works, started experimenting with various techniques and formed his own one. Having produced more than 2,000 works of art, the artist sold only one painting during his lifetime-The Red Vineyard at Arles.

Edouard Manet

As one of the first artists to paint modern life, he began to paint in his own style, maintaining some of Couture's technique like the use of thick lines and dark colors. He was greatly influenced by Claude Monet and Berthe Morisot, which can be seen in his use of light shades. Most of his paintings show scenes from daily life on the streets of Paris.

Camille Pissarro

In his early years, Pissarro painted scenes of rivers or paths from memory. After meeting Paul Cezanne, who shared his interest of painting in a more realistic style, he changed his course to Impressionism. During his career, he experimented with various styles and formed his own one.

Recently, a cartoon created by students from China Central Academy of Fine Arts put this group of people under the spotlight. In the short film, phubbers with various social identities bury themselves in their phones. A doctor plays with his cell phone while letting his patient die, a pretty woman takes selfie (自拍) in front of a car accident site, and a father loses his child without knowing about it while using his mobile phone. A chain of similar events eventually leads to the destruction of the world.

Although the ending sounds overstated, the damage phubbing can bring is real. Your health is the first to bear the effect and result of it. “Constantly bending your head to check your cell phone could damage your neck,” Guangming Daily quoted doctors as saying, “the neck is like a rope that breaks after long­term stretching.” Also, staring at cell phones for long periods of time will damage your eyesight gradually, according to the report.

But that’s not all. Being a phubber could also damage your social skills and drive you away from your friends and family. At reunions with family or friends, many people tend to stick to their cell phones while others are chatting happily with each other and this creates a strange atmosphere, Beijing Evening News reported.

It can also cost you your life. There have been lots of reports on phubbers who fell to their death, suffered accidents，and were robbed of their cell phones in broad daylight.
