文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文。文章讲述了作者不擅长并且讨厌数学,但大一时的A老师让作者改变了态度,于是数学成绩开始慢慢上升的故事。

3 . Math had never been something I was good at since middle school. Classes became harder in high school, and I was even further from a math teacher’s dream student. So at the start of my freshman year, I had an aversion to math. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to do well, but simply that I didn’t think I was able to do well. “I can’t” became my state of mind in all things related (有关的) to math.

However, I was soon to learn that “I can’t” was not a choice in Mr. A’s class.

Mr. A always greeted (迎接) us with open arms as he said, “Welcome! Smile! It’s a great day to be alive!” It was clear that Mr. A had a true passion (热情) not only for math but for teaching. If Mr. A ever experienced bad days in life, he never showed it. Mr. A greeted us with that same smile every day. He encouraged each student, from the top achiever to the “I can’t” student.

I found myself looking forward to math class, although I still hated the subject itself. Being in Mr. A’s presence made me feel good, as if I had the chance to succeed. As the year progressed, I spent increasingly more time on my homework, and I met with Mr. A weekly. My classmates began to do the same, and it became “cool” to have lunch and talk with Mr. A. We didn’t know it at the time, but he was changing our attitudes (态度).

Though my story is not one of overnight success and I didn’t become a straight-A math student, my hard work did begin to pay off and my grades slowly began to climb. There were hard times, of course. Difficult math questions sometimes succeeded in bringing me down, but Mr. A kept reminding (提醒) me, “Kate, smile! It’s a great day to be alive!”

1. What does the underlined word “aversion” in paragraph 1 probably mean?
A.Interest.B.Responsibility.C.Dislike.D.Misunderstanding.
2. What first made the author look forward to math class?
A.Mr. A’s attitude.
B.Her interest in math.
C.Her friends’ encouragement.
D.The top achievers in her class.
3. How did the author feel about her talk over lunch with Mr. A?
A.It was straight.
B.It was awkward.
C.It was challenging.
D.It was impressive.
4. How did the author change in math?
A.She made slow progress.
B.She fell in love with math.
C.She became a straight-A math student.
D.She became comfortable with difficult math questions.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了一些方法帮助人们智胜夏季最讨厌的不速之客——蚊子。

5 . “Unfortunately, 85 percent of what makes us attractive or less to mosquitoes(蚊子) is hardwired in our genetic circuit board,” says Winegard, author of The Mosquito: A Human History of Our Deadliest Predator. Still, there are ways to outsmart summer’s most annoying party crashers, especially if all you want is to enjoy an evening on your patio (露台).

Know your blood type

Only female mosquitoes feed on humans, and for good reason: The proteins in your blood help them grow and mature their eggs. “She’s just being a good mom,” Wineguard says. “People with blood type O are her top of choice. They get bitten twice as much as people with blood type A, with blood type B falling in between.”

Stay cool

“Mosquitoes hunt by both smell and sight,” Wineguard says. “They can smell the carbon dioxide and see the heat signature of their target.” Avoiding alcohol can keep your body temperature lower— making you harder to find — so consider choosing a cocktail instead.

Wear light colors

Avoiding dark clothing can also keep you cooler, but that’s not the only reason it may offer relief. Mosquitoes, like many biting flies, are attracted to darker colors. The thinking behind this is that the animals they typically feed upon are larger, dark-bodied mammals(哺乳动物).

Get rid of standing water

Even a glass of drinking water left on the deck can become a breeding ground for mosquito eggs — and mother mosquitoes lay about 100 eggs at a time. “They don’t need very much at all to breed. It can be a backyard toy , like a truck that has a bit of water in it, or a crushed pop can,” says Winegard. If you get rid of it, they’ll go somewhere else to lay their eggs.

1. What’s the intention of this text?
A.To introduce a new book.B.To offer professional tips.
C.To analyze a study of insects.D.To suggest throwing a party.
2. Why does a female mosquito feed on human blood?
A.To hatch more eggs.B.To raise a large family.
C.To identify blood types.D.To fully develop her body.
3. What can we learn about mosquitoes according to Winegard?
A.They can trace the smell of alcohol.B.They have energy-locating abilities.
C.They feed off dark-bodied animals.D.They need abundant water to breed.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了狗狗用热泪盈眶的眼睛吸引主人的爱

7 . After a tiring day at the office, you find it hard not to smile when you’re greeted by an exciting and joyful dog. But it’s not just the happy shouting and wriggling (扭动) tail that strike our heartstrings. A new study shows that dogs’eyes filled with tears when reunited with their owners cause effect that brings out our love. The findings appear in Current Biology.

Takefumi Kikusui watched with interest when his dog was feeding her puppies, her face became so cute. Kikusui, a professor of veterinary(兽医) medicine at Azabu University in Japan, realized that his lovely mama dog had tears in her eyes. That possible connection between unbearable cuteness and tears sent him to the lab.

In the test, he and his team first measured the baseline tear volumes when dogs were together with the owner in their house. Then quickly, the owner would leave and stay hidden away from it for five or six hours. When the owner came back, they measured tear volume again. And found that the reunion with the owner raised tear volume. But it only worked with the dog’s owner. If reunited with the familiar caretaker in the dog care center, there was no increase in tears.

The researchers doubted that the tearful reaction was caused by oxytocin, a hormone(荷尔蒙) linked with social bonding. So they applied oxytocin to the dogs’ eyes. And, the dogs grew weepy. But why? To find out the reason for this easy-crying behavior, they showed volunteers a couple of dog head pictures. One was a normal dog face. And the other was a teary dog face in which they added man-made tears. The volunteers were more likely to want to hug and care for the one with big, wet puppy-dog eyes.

Dogs turn on the waterworks and their owners roll over. Now, that’s quite a clever trick!

1. What is Current Biology in Paragragh 1 likely to be?
A.A science journal.B.A celebrity biography.
C.A science fiction.D.A biology textbook.
2. When did Takefumi have the idea of doing his research?

B.When watching his dog feeding her kids.

3. Which can be the main idea of the passage?

8 . Two weeks ago, a 5-year-old girl named Sunshine Oelfke emptied out her piggy bank (存钱罐) onto the living room floor and immediately started counting. Her grandmother, Jackie Oelfke, thought she was playing as she carefully lined up the coins, but then she saw the girl put the coins into a plastic bag and place it in her backpack.

“What are you doing with that money?” Jackie asked her granddaughter.

“I’m taking it to school,” Sunshine replied. “I’m going to take it for milk money. My friend Layla doesn’t get milk— her mom doesn’t have milk money and I do.”

Jackie’s heart melted at Sunshine’s words. Choked with strong feelings, Jackie held her sweet granddaughter tightly in her arms.

Last week, Jackie and Sunshine met with her teacher, Rita Hausher, and handed her the $30 the kindergartner had saved. There are 20 kids in Sunshine’s class and about half don’t get milk. Within a week, Jackie raised more than $1,000. Now every student in Sunshine’s class can get free milk for the rest of the year.

文章大意:本文为一篇说明文,文章讲述了父母应注意儿童安全的一些方面,且告诉父母应如何保护儿童安全。

9 . There is nothing more important than the safety of our children. Did you know that unintentional injury(意外伤害) is the main cause of death in children under 14 years old and with a third of them happening in the home? One of the top reasons a child under the age of three will visit an emergency room is because of household injuries and sadly, 70% of children who die from unintentional injuries are under the age of four. Every room in the home will have its own set of child safety problems. Two of the main danger zones are the kitchen and the bathroom.

Before I became a young mother, I crawled(爬) around the house on my hands and knees to see things from a child’s perspective(视角). You would be amazed at what you can discover by doing something so simple. We didn’t have toilet covers. A child is top heavy because their heads are bigger than their bodies and can easily fall into the toilet.

You might be surprised with the number of children falling out of windows every year, especially during the summer months. Something as simple as a child leaning against a window screen can result in a serious injury. The best way to prevent this type of injury is by setting up a child safety window guard.

As parents, we do the best we can by providing as much protection as possible to make sure of the safety of children. And as there are so many products(产品) out there to help us do this, there is nothing like good old-fashioned supervision(监护). So, use common sense and products that help to keep your child safe, and you will have provided a safe environment for your children.

1. What’s the main reason for death in children under 14 according to Paragraph 1?
A.Age problems.B.No sense of safety.
C.Danger areas.D.Unexpected injuries.
2. Why did the writer crawl around the house on hands and knees?
A.To cover the toilet slowly.
B.To protect her child carefully.
C.To look for something interesting.
D.To discover danger from a child’s point.
3. What should we do to protect children from falling out of windows?
A.Keep away from a window.B.Place a safety window guard.
C.Move away the window screen.D.Lean(倚) against the window firmly.
4. What’s the last paragraph mainly about?
A.Tips on keeping children safe.B.Products for children.
C.Growth speed of children.D.Ways to look after children.
