1 . GREAT BOOKS TO TEACH CHILDREN ABOUT CLIMATE CHANGE
Here is a shortened list of books sponsored by the magazines TIME and TIME for Kids that are suitable for primary schoolers. To make the list, we considered how age-appropriate the material was, and whether the tone and story line left the reader feeling engaged and empowered rather than anxious or confused.
Experts recommend the youngest kids to read books that explore the beauty and fragility (脆弱) of nature. When developing an appreciation for the world around them, they can switch to books that show the cause and effect of how humans treat our planet, and why it’s important to respect the environment. For older primary school kids, picture books can illustrate how our use of fossil (化石) fuels contributes to global warming. Most of the books on the list also offer lessons about how children, families, schools, and communities can make a difference.

E-Tutoring
Tiffin University is a member of the Ohio E-Tutoring Collaborative, a program supported by the State of Ohio to assist in the delivery of tutoring across Ohio’s institutions of higher education. Live sessions take place in a ZOOM room within the e tutoring Online platform room using audio and video, a whiteboard, document-sharing and instant messaging. Writing students use the e Tutoring Online platform by uploading papers for review by tutors and receive written encouragement and suggestions on improving the written work.

3 . Hua Sheng and Lu Sheng, a retired Tibetan couple, have become trailblazers (开拓者) of grape growing and winemaking in their old ages.
Lu Sheng learned grape planting and winemaking from her grandmother’s sister. Since they retired, the couple have moved to Lhasa from the village of Yakhadi. Though the fact that the region’s capital, which is 3,600 meters above sea level, is considered unfit for growing grapes, Lu Sheng and Hua Sheng began an ambitious project in 2015, planting grapes in Tsalna, a town in the suburb of Lhasa.
They received support from the local government, which is committed to developing business and the economy. The couple’s project provides jobs for rural residents, and, as a result, the government has considered the project part of its poverty relief program.
“Lhasa is an ideal place for planting French grape varieties that are resistant to cold, drought and disease, and adaptable to high-altitude and open-air planting,” Lu Sheng said.
“Thanks to the plateau’s sunshine and organic planting, our grapes grow very well here in Lhasa. The grapes are a bit sour and sweet, and they have a high anthocyanin (花青素) content,” she said. Anthocyanins, which accumulate (积累) in grape cells and contribute rich color to wine, are water-soluble(水溶性的).
In 2018, Hua Sheng and Lu Sheng expanded their project, planting on nearly 6.67 hectares. In order to familiarize Tibetan farmers with grape planting and winemaking, they taught the skills to local villagers.
“We have successfully taught the local farmers how to grow grapes and make wine over the three years. They now have a new source of income besides traditional farming and herding,” Hua Sheng said.
Yudron, a resident of Nam, said she was grateful to the grape planting project in her village, which has contributed to her income and quality of life. “After working in the vine-yards for years, now we know how to make wine. We drink both barley and grape wine now. We love grape wine more, though, as it is healthier.”

Without less public attention, the nation’s egg producers are in the midst of a multibillion-dollar shift to cage-free eggs that is dramatically changing the lives of millions of hens in response to new laws and demands from restaurant chains. In a decade, the percentage of hens in cage-free housing has soared from 4% in 2010 to 28% in 2020, and that figure is expected to more than double to about 70% in the next four years.
The change marks one of the animal welfare movement’s biggest successes after years of battles with the food industry. The transition has cost billions of dollars for producers who initially resisted calls for more humane treatment of chickens but have since fully embraced the new reality.
Beginning in about 2015, many companies such as McDonald’s, Burger King responded to pressure from animal welfare groups by announcing their commitment to cage-free eggs. That was followed by laws requiring cage-free housing in California and similar rules in at least seven other states. Meanwhile, they widely promoted their move to cage-free as good for their brand’s image.
Animal rights groups have made allowing animals room to move a priority in their campaigns but the results have been mixed. The pork industry is fighting to block the California initiative that required more space for breeding pigs, and a state judge recently delayed implementation of new rules.
Looking years into the future, egg company leaders said they think the demand for cheaper eggs from caged hens will remain roughly 25% or more of the market, but Balk at the Humane Society said he expects it to become a tiny percentage of overall sales. Balk notes that hundreds of national retailers, restaurants, grocers and food manufacturers either have implemented cage-free requirements or plan to do so within a few years. “This is the future of every state in America,” he said.

5 . Apps for Middle School Students
Pixton
With the right tools, summer can be a great time for getting tweens and teens to flex their creative writing muscles. Pixton is a free site for kids to make comics they can print or share online. Pixton is easy to use and also offers how-to videos and support. For a subscription fee, kids can access even more features.
Be Confident in Who You Are
This app is the first part of an award-winning series called Middle School Confidential. Presented as a graphic novel, it helps kids understand and navigate the social world of middle school. It takes on common issues like self-esteem（自尊）and fitting in. There's no read-aloud function, but there are quizzes to help kids work on social skills.
SuperBetter
This game-like tool helps teens stay motivated to take daily steps toward their goals. SuperBetter can be used to break negative patterns and improve self-image. It also enables teens to connect with other users, adding a social element that can encourage progress. The tool is tailor-made for each kid's needs, but it can take time to set it up.
Instructables
Want to learn how to bake cakes filled with chocolate-hazelnut spread? Instructables is full of do-it-yourself projects, including many that are great for summer. Some projects are good for organizing and managing life. There are also a few projects that may help with attention. Parents may need to pre-select projects because the site has some content about adult topics.

6 . Astrotourism: Travel to a place where you can see stars
Few sights are as breathtaking as the night sky full of stars. But you can’t get a good view of the stars in cities. Nowadays, increasing numbers of people are participating in astrotourism — traveling to destinations where they can focus on viewing stars, planets and other space-related phenomena.
Star party in Nebraska, USA
In north-central Nebraska, a week-long Star Party has been held annually for almost 30 years. Held at the Merritt Reservoir (水库), the party features classes teaching beginners about astronomy, along with some programs especially for children. The party features challenges such as a photo contest. During the day, visitors can swim in the reservoir and go fishing and boating.
Jasper National Park, Canada
The second-largest dark sky preserve in the world, Jasper National Park in Alberta, Canada, covers 11,000 square kilometers. In October each year, visitors show up there for the Jasper Dark Sky Festival, making Jasper National Park one of Canada’s top astrotourism destinations. During the day, visitors can enjoy the beauty of the park’s glaciers (冰川), streams, lakes and mountains.
Chile
With an average of 300 nights with clear skies per year, Chile is a great destination for astrotourism. The clear skies mean visitors are very likely to be able to see stars and planets without clouds blocking their view.
Finland
Northern Finland is one of the best places in the world to take in the northern lights. They are usually green but can be pink and more rarely red and violet In Finland’s Lapland region, they are visible 200 nights a year.
Wherever you go, astrotourism provides an opportunity to pause and reflect on the wonders of the universe.

The Eight Hundred

They understand that e-commerce going the countryside is not only to sell things in the city to the countryside, but also to sell things from the countryside. They change everyone with sincerity and start an extraordinary journey.
The film was released on Oct.4th, with a total box office of 306.19 million yuan ($46.79 million) by Nov. 8th.
Leap
The film tells the story of China’s women’s volleyball team’s life and death battle from its first World Championship in 1981 to the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. It also tells the legend of several generations of women’s volleyball players who have experienced setbacks but remained indomitable (不屈不挠) and consonantly struggling.
The film was released on Sept. 25th, with a total box office of 827.37 million yuan ($126.43 million) by Nov. 8th.
Love You Forever
A young dancer finds Lin Ge s diary while rescuing the elderly theater manager. In the diary, the old man with white hair is like her best friend. To fulfill his promise, Lin Ge goes back to the past, corrects his mistakes and saves his love. However, he is teased by fate and cannot be satisfied.

9 . Have you ever tried to wear a historical object? On 13 September, in a Chinese reality show, an inventive participant chose to connect themes from Sanxingdui, an ancient Bronze Age culture from Sichuan Province, with today’s fashion technology. That included using heat transfer printing techniques and modern materials to create six different pieces.
Historic designs are generating interest in China. Over the past year, more people have visited museums online than in real life. And the number of visits to museum design stores on Tmall alone has lopped 1.6 billion. Of these mils, 100 million users were “post 1990s”.
Museum IP, considered to be an intangible cultural asset, is now attracting great interest from China’s younger generation. In 2013, the Forbidden City Museum in Beijing first requested product design ideas from the public for a cultural and creative design competition. The end results included luggage tags, folding fans, and many other products. Its cooperation with Chinese beauty brand Pechoin followed to launch the first lipstick. Even in 2017 the museum earned more than 1 billion RMB through cultural and creative products.
After witnessing the huge commercial potential of cultural and creative products, many other Chinese museums have followed the Forbidden City Museum’s example. In July, Sanxingdui Museum in Sichuan Province removed the cover on Sanxingdui masks, with toy character designs inspired by Sanxingdui cultural relics. Dunhuang Academy launched a Tianlong Babu blind box (a gift box with a random mixture inside) based on its frescoes. The Henan Museum has launched an archaeological blind box complete with mini play drilling tools that consumers must use to access the toys inside.

Yosemite Falls
Repeatedly popping into view over treetops and around comers as you drive through the valley, the falls look different from every angle, and it’s impossible to take your eyes off. You don’t have to hike or even get out of your car to appreciate this waterfall, but the most complete view of the falls is from the start of the Yosemite Falls hike, along the route on the left side of the river. You can walk right to the base of the falls with minimal effort and feel the mist sweeping over you.
Half Dome
Half Dome is one of Yosemite’s most famous sites and particularly well-known in the climbing world for being one of the first “big climbs”. This granite icon looks much different depending on the angle you arc viewing it from. Looking up at the sheer rock face from the valley, the enormity of the wall is obvious, and you can appreciate why climbers have been drawn here. The best place to view it is from the lookout at Glacier Point. From here, you get a true picture of the rock and how much higher it stands than the surrounding mountains.
El Capitan
Popular among climbers, El Capitan is a 3,000-foot sheer rock face on the north side of Yosemite Valley. Although it may not seem like it, El Capitan is actually 1,000 feet higher than the face of Half Dome. El Capitan gained interest with the free solo climb of Alex Honnold in June of 2017, and the Academy Award winning documentary film, Free Solo. He became the first person to climb El Capitan without ropes, and completely unaided.
Tunnel View
The most classic view of Yosemite Valley is from Tunnel View. This vista, which will feel very familiar to most visitors, stretches out to El Capitan on the left, Bridalveil Fall on the right, Half Dome in the distance, and also takes in the lush valley at the base of the huge granite walls. The best time to appreciate this scene is in the afternoon, when the walls are bathed in sunlight.
