1 . 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。
Chinese female scientist Tu Youyou won the 2015 Nobel Prize in medicine on October 5 for her discoveries concerning a novel treatment against Malaria(疟疾). This is the first Nobel Prize given to a Chinese scientist for work carried out within China.
Tu shared the prize with Irish-born William Campbell and Satoshi Omura of Japan, who were honored for their revolutionary anti-roundworm treatment. 84-year-old Tu is awarded this prize for her contribution to cutting the death rate of malaria, reducing patients’ suffering and promoting mankind’s health. Although she received several medical awards in the past, the 2015 Nobel Prize is definitely the most privilege reward that recognizes Tu’s dedication and perseverance in discovering artemisinin(青蒿素), the key drug that battles malaria-friendly parasites(寄生虫).
However, her route to the honor has been anything but traditional. She won the Nobel Prize for medicine, but she doesn’t have a medical degree or a Phd.In China, she is even being called the “three-noes” winner: no medical degree, no doctorate, and she’s never worked overseas. No wonder her success has stirred China’s national pride and helped promote confidence of native Chinese scientists.
The fact that Tu has none of these three backgrounds reminds us that science should be more accessible to all. One shall be able to become a scientist no matter what kind of background he or she comes from, as long as one dives into scientific research. There have been discussions on people who really love science but are never able to achieve much during their whole life. Their contributions can never be ignored. They work so hard to prove the wrong way so that the future researchers will be closer to the right one.
As the first Chinese mainland Nobel Prize Winner of natural science award, Tu’s record-breaking winning also serves as a reminder to those who are too eager for instant success. Science is never about instant success. Tu spent decades on scientific research before its value is officially acknowledged. There is no way to measure how much one devotes to science and compare it with how much reward he or she may get.
1. It can be concluded from the text that __________.
A.Tu worked home and abroad to conduct her research
B.Tu got the Nobel Prize for her anti-roundworm treatment
C.The Nobel Prize is the first award to recognize her work
D.Her discovery of artemisinin has helped to cut Malaria death rate
2. The author seems to agree that a person who is more likely to become a scientist is the one with__________.
A.a sense of national pride
B.relevant academic knowledge
C.a desire to achieve success
D.enthusiasm for scientific research
3. In writing the passage, the author intends to ___________.
A.inform readers of the news and make comments
B.discourage the pursuit of instant success in science
C.remind readers of the principles of scientific research
D.praise the award winner and encourage scientific research

2 . You may have heard of the book Moby Dick(《白鲸记》),written by the American author Herman Melville. You may also know that Moby Dick is considered one of the greatest novels ever written. However,it might surprise you to find out Herman Melville was not always a highly regarded author.

Melville’s first two novels,Typee and Omoo, were widely read and financially successfully. They were both exciting tales of adventures at sea and experiences with people in foreign lands.Melville became quite famous. However, upon the publication of his third book,Mardi,Melville’s popularity began to weaken. He was no longer interested in telling tales of pure adventure, and his writing took on a style that alienated(使疏远)the general reading public of his time.

The Civil War is the main subject of Melville’s poetry. He and his brother made a trip to the front line, and he published a book of poems,Battle-Pieces and Aspects of War,based on this experience.

Melville died in 1891 at the age of 72 at this point, his work had been completely forgotten by the public. His talent was to go unrecognized for the next thirty years. Then,in 1920s, his reputation began to improve as critics and readers rediscovered his work.Today Moby Dick is one of the best-known novels ever penned by an American author.

4 . Are you sometimes a little tired and sleepy in the early afternoon? Many people feel this way after lunch. They may think that eating lunch is the cause of the sleepiness. Or,in summer, they may think it is the heat. However, the real reason lies inside their bodies. At that time—about eight hours after you wake up—your body temperature goes down. This is what makes you slow down and feel sleepy. Scientists have tested sleep habits in experiments where there was no night or day. The people in these experiments almost always followed a similar sleeping pattern. They slept for one long period and then for one short period about eight hours later.

In many parts of the world, people take naps (小睡) in the middle of the day. This is especially true in warmer climates, where the heat makes work difficult in the early afternoon. Researchers are now saying that naps are good for everyone in any climate. A daily nap gives one a more rested body and mind and therefore is good for health in general. In countries where naps are traditional, people often suffer less from problems such as heart disease. Many working people, unfortunately, have no time to take naps. Though doctors may advise taking naps, employers don't follow it! If you do have the chance, however, here are a few tips about making the most of your nap. Remember that the best time to take a nap is about eight hours after you get up. A short sleep too late in the day may only make you feel more tired and sleepy afterward. This can also happen if you sleep for too long. If you do not have enough time, try a short nap — even ten minutes of sleep can be helpful.

1. Why do you sometimes feel sleepy in the early afternoon?
A.Because you eat too much for lunch.
B.Because it's hot in summer.
C.Because your body temperature goes down at that time.
D.Because you didn't have a good sleep last night.
2. What can we learn about “naps” according to the last paragraph?
A.All the people in warmer climates take naps in the middle of the day.
B.Doctors need to take naps while employers don't.
C.If you take naps every day, you'll never suffer from heart disease.
D.Taking naps regularly is beneficial to people's health.
3. What can we infer from the passage?
A.If you get up at 6:30 am,you'd better take a nap at about 2:30 pm.
B.Taking a nap whenever you want will do good to your health.
C.You will feel less sleepy if you sleep for a long time.
D.You'll feel sleepy at regular intervals.
4. What would be the best title for the text?
A.Just for a RestB.All for a Nap
C.A Special Sleep PatternD.Taking Naps in Warmer Climates

5 . BEIJING -Starting today, all indoor public places and many outdoor public places in Beijing are required to be 100-percent smoke-free, including primary and middle schools, seating areas of sports stadiums and hospitals that treat women or children.

Those who break the law will face fines of up to 200 yuan ($32), and owners of the establishment will be fined up to 10,000 yuan. The Beijing government is training several thousand inspectors to be responsible for inspecting and issuing fines, and thousands of community volunteers will also come to help. But it would he difficult to carry out the law in some areas where smoking is common, such as nightclubs.

6 . John Nash,a Nobel Prize winner and a mathematical genius whose struggle with mental illness was documented in the Oscar-winning film A Beautiful Mind, was killed in a car accident on May 24th, 2015.
Born in West Virginia, Nash displayed a keenness for mathematics early in life, independently proving Femret's little theorem(定理)before graduating from high school. By the time he turned 30 in 1958,he was an unquestionable academic celebrity. At Princeton, Nash published a 27-page thesis that led to applications to economics, international politics, and evolutionary biology
His signature solution-known as a "Nash Equilibrium(纳什均衡)”-found that competition among two opponents, not necessarily governed by zero-sum logic. Two opponents can, for instance, each achieve their maximum objectives through cooperating with the other, or gain nothing at all by refusing to cooperate. It is now regarded as one of the most important social science ideas in the 20th century.
In the late 1950s, Nash began a slide into mental illness. By the time Nash was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1994, he hadn't published a paper in 36 years. But like a child cured of a nightmare by the switch of a light, Nash recovered from his illness seemingly by choosing not to be sick anymore. He continued to work, travel, and speak at conferences for the rest of his life.
In 2001,the release of the film A Beautiful Mind, based an Sylvia Nasar’s 1998 book of the same name, introduced Nash's unusual life story to an international audience

10 . Imagination and fantasy can play an important role in achieving the things we fear. Children know this very well. Fred Epstein ,in his book If I Make It to Five, tells a story he heard from one of friends about Tom, a four-year-old boy with a cancer in his back bone. He came through several operations and a lot of pain by mastering his imagination.
Tom loved to pretend, and he particularly loved to play superheroes ,Dr. Epstein explained that it was actually a brilliant way for his young mind to handle the terrifying and painful life he led.
The day before his third trip to the operating room, Tom was terribly afraid. ”Maybe I could go as Superman ,”he whispered to his mom. Hearing this, the mother hesitated for a while. She had avoided buying the expensive costume(戏装),finally she agreed.
The next day Tom appeared as the powerful Superman, showing off through the hospital halls and coolly waving his hand to the people greeting him along the way. And Tom, with the strength of his fantasy, successfully made it through the operation.
The power of imagination need not be reserved for children only. We all have the power to use our fantasies to attempt things we never thought possible, to go through those things that seem impossible, and to achieve what we never believed we could. Just as Dr. Epstein puts it ,”If you can dream it, you can do it”
It doesn‘t mean that you should dress as a superhero for your next job interview. But, next time you are texted in a way that seems impossible, imagine what it would take to overcome it .Become the person you need to become to win over your challenge and do it in your mind first. So, let your imagination run wild, and dare to dream.
