1 . From childhood to adulthood, you go through a lot of changes — jobs, regrettable haircuts and relationships that come and go. But what about who you are? As you grow older, does your personality change?

Personality is the pattern(模式) of thoughts, feelings and behaviors unique to a person. People always think of personality as fixed(固定的). But according to psychologists, that’s not how it works. “Personality is developing. It’s not just something that you’re stuck with and can’t get over,” said Brent Roberts, a psychologist at the University of Illinois.

That’s not to say that you’re a different person each day you wake up. In the short term, change can be nearly impossible to see, Roberts told Live Science. Longitudinal studies, in which researchers survey(调查) the personalities of participants(参与者) regularly over many years, suggest that our personality is actually stable in the short term.

But those years add up, throughout which our personality is still changing, but slowly, Roberts said. “It’s something that’s unnoticeable,” he added. You don’t feel it on that five-to-10-year time period, but in the long term, it becomes obvious. In 1960, psychologists surveyed over 440,000 high school students — around 5% of all students in the country at that time. The students answered questions about everything from how they behaved in emotional(情绪的) situations to how well and effectively they got work done. Fifty years later, researchers tracked down(追踪到) 1,952 of these former students and gave them the same survey. The results found that in their 60s, participants scored much higher than they had as teenagers.

Some people might change less than others, but in general, the maturity principle(成熟原则) goes for everyone. That makes personality change even harder to realize in ourselves — how your personality compares with that of your peers doesn’t change as much as our overall change in personality, because everyone else is changing right along with you. “It has been proved that the self-control of a 30-year-old is higher than a 20-year-old,” Donnellan said. “At the same time, people who are more self-controlled at 18 are also possibly more self-controlled at age 30.”

2 . With no end in sight to the coronavirus pandemic(新冠疫情), it looks like protective face wear is here to stay.

But who says it can’t be stylish?

Throughout the pandemic, designers have been bringing out their face masks— luxury(奢华) versions include Off-White’s popular $95 Arrow logo face mask and Burberry’s vintage check cotton design, selling for £90 ($115).

And now, Louis Vuitton is taking it a step further, making a luxury face shield(护罩) that’s designed to be “both stylish and protective”, the French fashion house said.

The “eye-catching” LV Shield changes from clear to dark in sunlight, protecting wearers from the sun. It also has golden studs with Louis Vuitton’s logo and an elastic headband(松紧带). The visor(面盔) can also be worn upward as a classic cap.

The shield has not yet been priced, but as a high-end fashion brand, it may not be cheap. Other Louis Vuitton head wear, including hats and sunglasses, sell for hundreds of dollars.

The face shield will be sold online and at select Louis Vuitton stores starting on October 30th.

In April, Louis Vuitton joined the global effort to make personal protective equipment to support health care workers on the front lines of the pandemic. The company said it had repurposed several of its workshops across France to “produce hundreds of thousands of non-medical face masks” for health care workers.

The company also said it was giving away thousands of hospital clothing to six Paris hospitals in need of protective suits.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention does not recommend using face shields as masks, because it is not clear what level of protection they provide.

Okada's body was down over his daughter, gently holding her in his arms and using his body and a wall to provide shelter. The small girl was taken to hospital, where she was found to have no serious injuries. Her father was officially pronounced dead by doctors at the same hospital.

The newspaper Yomiuri said Natsune's mother had died of illness two years earlier. Neighbors said Okada had been a very kind father who would often start his working day late to enjoy breakfast with his daughter.

The Honors Program in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology (HPBMB) is offered to mature high school seniors with strong academic ability and achievement who seek careers in biological or biomedical science. Students can earn both a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) and a Doctor of Philosophy Degree (Ph.D.) in approximately 6 years.

Applicants to the Honors Program in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology must be in their last year of high school.

Undergraduates will have the opportunity to work with top-level research scientists in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and also in clinical laboratories with scientists that are associated with the department. They will conduct intensive laboratory work in the areas of biochemistry, molecular biology or nutritional biochemistry starting in the summer before their first fall semester starts. By spring of their junior year;students will prepare an undergraduate thesis as preparation for their entry into graduate school. At that time, they will start taking graduate courses and continue to do research with a graduate faculty member.

To be considered students must:

• have a combined SAT I score of 1400(combined Math and Critical Reading scores)

• meet the SAT II score requirement of at least 600 in Math, and one science (Biology, Chemistry or Physics)

• have completed eight semesters of English and mathematics and two semesters each of Biology and Chemistry by the time they graduate from high school

• complete all components of your Common Application for undergraduate admission by November 1 of your senior year

• complete a supplemental application form for the Honors Program in Bio chemistry & Molecular Biology

• include a counselor recommendation, three letters of recommendation from teachers in support, of your application to the Honors Program and a personal statement
