2 . Over the years, I've found some easy tricks to get myself more active daily. Going to the gym and doing a weight workout isn't required.     1     Here's my secret sauce.

1.Start small

A lot of people assume they need to run themselves tired in the gym to get more fit, but that's really not true. Experts recommend a minimum of 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity a week—that breaks down to a little more than 20 minutes each day. They also recommend strength-training at least two times a week.     2

2.Get active at work

3     Rather than using your full lunch hour to eat, take some time to go to the gym, speed walk around the office or run errands. You can also break up the boring work of the day by taking a walk during one-on-one meetings instead of sitting at a desk or conference room — anything to get up and get moving.

3.Do exercises you actually like

This is a big one. If you hate exercising, it might be because you aren't doing workouts you enjoy. Very few people actually enjoy running around in circles for miles. So don't. Branch out and try different kinds of workouts until you find one you genuinely enjoy.     4     But it'll be worth it when working out no longer feels like a chore.

4.Make it social

Exercise doesn't need to be alone. In fact, having a workout partner can help keep you motivated and hold you accountable in your routine.     5     The structure of working out in a group can push you to work harder while also introducing you to new people.

A.Your work day doesn't have to involve totally sitting long.
B.There are actually effective ways to get more exercise day-to-day.
C.Thirty minutes is an ideal place to start to fulfill your weekly needs.
D.If you don't have one buddy to join you, sign up for a workout class.
E.Exercise isn't just about running as fast or lifting as much as possible.
F.It'll help improve your flexibility and do wonders for your mental health.
G.This requires you to go out of your comfort zone and to be patient as you try things out.

3 . Move over soccer, basketball and football, there’s a new competition sweeping Australia. It’s competitive bird calling. Yes, bird calling!

Scores of kids in New South Wales are spending their spare time practicing for the Bournda Bird Olympics, an event that aims at young bird-callers against each other to see who can deliver the clearest, most enthusiastic and most accurate bird call. The principal of the Bournda Environmental Education Centre, Doug Reckord, encourages the kids to listen to bird calls on YouTube to prepare for the event. The children also work on identifying birds by their beaks, claws and calls.

Surprisingly, the Bournda Bird Olympics isn’t Australia’s first competition with competitive bird calling. The first competition took place in Sydney in 1912. It was supported by the Gould League of Bird Lovers, a foundation that encouraged children to bird watch and learn about birds.

Even back then, New South Wales was the country’s bird calling leader. Students from the New South Wales region had access to much more bird sounds than city kids. They won the Dawson Memorial Shield for best bird calling six times between 1953 and 1962. Today, New South Wales is bringing back the bird calls. Led by the Bournda Environmental Education Centre, the Bournda Bird Olympics renewed in 2018. The event now features former bird calling champion, Bruce Chapman, as the “celebrity” judge.

When showtime finally arrives, three judges at the Bournda Bird Olympics rate people taking part on their enthusiasm, accuracy and clearness. The players can earn a maximum of three points in each type. Some 45 children took part in the 2022 event. The most popular bird call to imitate (模仿) was the kookaburra’s unique laugh. But the winner that year came from a girl copying a king parrot. Her call sounded so accurate that a king parrot in the trees actually called back to her.

1. What’s Doug Reckord’s attitude to bird calling?
A.Curious.B.Positive.C.Uncaring.D.Objective.
2. What is Gould League of Bird Lovers?
A.A project.B.A school club.C.A game.D.An organization.
3. What is the fourth paragraph mainly about?
A.The basic rules of bird calling.B.The bright future of bird calling.
C.New South Wales’ participation.D.New South Wales’ training.
4. Why did a girl’s imitation win the 2022 event?
A.It was true to life.B.It was the sweetest.
C.It was the most popular.D.It was full of enthusiasm.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文,文章主要讲述如何为冬季运动做好热身准备。

7 . If you have watched the amazing Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, chances are that you have fallen in love with some winter sports and you’re already making sure your equipment is ready for them.       1     However, there’s   another   element to get ready for the   slopes—your body. Even   if you   exercise regularly,   skiing, snowshoeing or skating challenges your muscles in ways other activities don’t.

2     Your metabolism (新陈代谢) increases to warm you up. Your heart and lungs also need to work harder to warm air before it enters your body. Depending on the sport, certain muscles may also be used more frequently compared to activities in other seasons. The good news is that most winter sports involve heart endurance, muscle strength and muscle endurance.       3

But there are still some other things to think about. Skiing and snowboarding are great winter sports that provide a total body workout.       4       As anyone who has spent time skiing or snowboarding can prove, after a long day on the slopes, the body becomes extremely tired. And that is when injuries are more likely to occur.       5       Before the winter season, a regular exercise program should include exercises that get the blood running while challenging the entire body, such as stair climbing or running. The intensity should vary from 20 to 45 minutes at least 3 to 5 days a week. As winter nears, adding a cardio (有氧的) workout longer in duration but lower in intensity can help increase endurance.

A.Maybe you haven’t bought all the equipment.
B.Exercising in the cold decreases your body temperature.
C.You should take advantage of this opportunity to have a rest.
D.Probably, you have got your skis tuned and skates sharpened.
E.However, it can be hard on the body the first time you hit the slopes.
F.All of them are areas which can be trained before the winter season comes.
G.To avoid this, you need to take sometime to strengthen your body and improve endurance.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了疫情期间,很多人改变了健身习惯,在家线上锻炼,本文介绍了这种现状,并分析了其优缺点。

9 . During the COVID-19 pandemic (流行病), some people found their exercise was greatly reduced. However, it was an attraction for others to increase their physical activity. With the change of working from home, some physical activity was reduced. People took this newly freed up time as a chance to add exercise to their day, with online fitness programs and health apps (应用软件) reporting an increase.

However, the early drive to exercise appears to have been short-lived for many, with a study comparing activity levels between the first and second waves of COVID-19 in Victoria finding most people reported a reduction in their physical activity levels the second time around because of a shortage of encouragement. A study found that COVID-19 has reduced physical activity and increased sedentary (久坐不动的) behavior, and the effects could be lasting.

Continuing concerns about COVID-19 have led to carefulness about returning to public spaces such as gyms. But also, with many people changing their exercise habits and setting up home gyms during the pandemic, it’s become much more convenient to exercise at home. It’s clear for many of us that COVID-19 changed how and how much we exercise. But the changes don’t necessarily have to be for the worse.

People who changed to online workouts (锻炼), fitness apps and home gyms during the pandemic said their exercise was less satisfying, less enjoyable and they felt less active com-pared with doing exercise in gyms. Besides the physical effects, people reported missing the social communication, friendship, and being avoidable of the gym. In-person classes also offer the advantages of management and instruction, which can help make sure workouts are completed safely and effectively.

However, online workouts, fitness apps and near-home workouts are likely here to stay, and offer many advantages, such as no need to travel to the gym and convenience, making it easy to fit in a workout while working and shouldering family responsibilities.

1. How do some people add exercise to their day during the pandemic?
A.By returning to public places.B.By driving to a lonely park.
C.By turning to the Internet.D.By taking face-to-face classes.
2. What can we learn about exercise during the pandemic from the text?
A.People have changed exercise habits.B.People like to build their home gym.
C.People strongly wish to exercise.D.People refuse to go back to public gyms.
3. What does paragraph 4 mainly focus on?
A.The disadvantages of exercising at home.
B.The way to exercise during the pandemic.
C.The examples of good exercise at home.
D.The reasons for people changing home exercise.
4. What does the author think of exercising at home in the last paragraph?
A.It is difficult.B.It is worrying.

10 . Are you preparing for a big test? If so, you may want to go play some basketball in between hitting the books. Doctors are starting to find more and more information that suggests a connection between exercise and brain development. Judy Cameron, a scientist at Oregon Health and Science University, studies brain development. According to her research, it seems that exercise can make blood vessels (血管), including those in the brain, stronger and more fully developed. Dr. Cameron claims this allows people who exercise to concentrate better. As she says, “while we already know that exercise is good for the heart, exercise can really cause physical changes in the brain.”

The effects of exercise on brain development can even be seen in babies. Babies who do activities that require a lot of movement and physical activity show greater brain development than babies who are less physically active. With babies, even a little movement can show big results. Margaret Barnes, a doctor, also believes in the importance of exercise. She thinks that many learning disabilities that children have in elementary school or high school can be traced back to a lack of movement as babies. “Babies need movement that encourages and excites their five senses. They need to establish a connection between motion and memory. In this way, as they get older, children will begin to connect physical activity with higher learning,” says Margaret.

Older people can develop their brains as well. Columbia University studied a group of seniors who have a short-term memory of up to 40 percent after exercising just three hours a week. The exercise does not have to be very difficult, but it does have to increase the heart rate. Also, just like the motion for babies, exercise for older people should not be too simple. Learning some new skills or actions, such as with yoga or tai-chi, helps to open up memory paths in the brain that may not have been used for a long time. For most people, any type of physical activity that increases the heart rate is helpful. The main goal is to increase the brain’s flow of blood. And your brain can benefit from as little as two to three hours of exercise a week.

1. What is the main idea of this reading?
A.How to exercise.
B.How exercise helps the brain.
C.How to get good scores on a test.
D.How the brain can change.
2. According to the reading, what is the connection between exercise and brain development?
A.Exercise helps make our blood vessels.
B.The brain needs special mental exercise.
C.The more exercise, the bigger the brain is.
D.Physical exercise helps us think better.
3. The smallest amount of exercise required to gain any benefit is         .
A.three hours per weekB.40 hours per week
C.three hours per dayD.40 hours per month
4. Why is yoga recommended for seniors?
A.It is easy to remember.B.It can be done in groups.
C.It does not increase the heart rate.D.It includes learning new motions.
