I participated in a cycling event yesterday. This event attracted cycling lover from all over the city. I was not sure where I found the courage to undertook it, but it could have been the inspiration from the spirit of sportsmanship I witnessed before.

My friends and I began my cycling adventure at 6 am from the eastern side of the lake. The cycling path was lined by a variety of color flowers, many of what I couldn’t identify by name. Looking down on, I noticed lots of falling leaves on the red track. At that moment I realized leaves were so attractive. Of course, this journey wasn’t just the feast for the eyes. It was absolute a physical challenge too.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了几种激励自己积极锻炼以保持健康的方法。

3 . Trying to motivate yourself to exercise can sometimes feel like a fruitless attempt. Here are some tips on setting your mind on getting active, and getting fit.

Make your fitness goals known. Tell your family, friends and co-workers about your fitness goals and encourage them to ask you how your goals come along.     1

Make an appointment with your doctor. Ask the doctor about your health condition and how becoming more physically fit can help you become healthier.     2     A government study found just three hours of advice by doctors over two years helped improve couch potatoes’ physical fitness.

3     If you’re new to exercise, it’ll be better to have a fitness professional set your goals rather than doing it alone. That means setting the weights on machines for you, determining how long you should walk or run, or giving you a time limit for the running machines.

Consider healthy living, not just workouts. Even if you spend three hours a week in the gym, what of the other 100-plus waking hours each week? Fit people keep energetic during their entire day.     4     You can simply stand up and walk around whenever you get on the phone and always take the stairs, not the lift.

Do it for charity.     5     If you fall into that category, then find a way to use your charitable nature to motivate yourself to exercise. For example, donate & 1 for every mile you walk. Or commit to several fund-raising events that involve walking, biking, dancing, or a sports match.

A.Hire a personal trainer.
B.Then ask for some suggestions.
C.Focus on what matters most to you.
D.Some of us get great satisfaction from helping others.
E.The ongoing everyday activity leads to a whole lot of fitness.
F.Documenting your workouts and progress is a good way to hold yourself accountable.
G.Knowing that everyone is watching you provides great motivation to stick to your goals.

文章大意:这是一篇记叙文,文章主要介绍了Janine Strong创作的GPS艺术,她用自己的运动轨迹绘制出了一幅名画的形状。

4 . In 1665, Johannes Vermeer, one of the greatest painters in Netherlands, completed his masterpiece “Girl With a Pearl Earring.” On an April day 357 years later, Janine Strong slowed her bike to stop, paused her fitness app, and watched as the snaking line of her cycling route drew the shape of Vermeer’s masterpiece over the streets of Brooklyn.

Ms. Strong creates what has come to be known as “GPS art” — a practice that uses the Global Positioning System mapping capabilities of modern phone apps to create digital drawings with an athlete’s route. It has grown with the widespread availability of satellite tracking for use by ordinary people. In fact, the idea has been around since before the popularity of smartphones for fitness like Strava released in 2009.

In 2003, The New York Times Magazine told of how Jeremy Wood got the idea for GPS art. Mr. Wood said while he was using a GPS tracker on a flight and the plane flew in a holding pattern above Heath-row Airport, he was attracted by the pattern appearing on his Garmin GPS device. In recent years, technology has advanced enough to create visual maps in real time using a phone or smart watch.

“I get bored cycling on the same path in the same streets,” Ms. Strong said. “Creating GPS art gives me more reasons to hit the pavement, which makes cycling a lot easier. I always have a big smile on my face when it works out and I upload it and it’s done,” she added. “It’s a very satisfying feeling.”

To complete her digital vision of “Girl With a Pearl Earring,” she biked almost 50 miles around southern Brooklyn, carefully checking Strava to make sure each turn, circle, and straight line was achieving the shape of earring and head covering of Vermeer’s original.

1. What can we infer about Janine Strong in paragraph 1?
A.She tests a fitness app.B.She is an innovative cyclist.
C.She likes pearl earrings.D.She is a painter of some note.
2. What information can we get about GPS art?
A.It is rarely used by common people.B.It arose after the popularity of fitness apps.
C.It is based on apps’ GPS mapping functions.D.It is a practice of creating realistic drawings.
3. What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about?
A.The origin of GPS art.B.The prospect of GPS art.
C.The function of a GPS tracker.D.The advancement of a GPS device.
4. Who will be most likely to create GPS art?
A.Painting lovers.B.Mobile game players.
C.Software developers.D.Running enthusiasts.

8 . Indian Army soldier Anandan Gunasekaran lost his left leg in a mine explosion in 2008. But that didn’t stop him from pursuing his dream of making it big as an athlete.

With an artificial leg, Gunasekaran made himself and the country proud by bagging three gold medals at the Military World Games in China in October 2019.

After he lost his leg in 2008, he didn’t inform his family. Then, half a year later, he landed in his hometown with an artificial leg and his family was in shock. “They said that I should quit my Army job and stay at home and take care of the farm,” he says. But he told them that he had just lost his leg, not his ambition to run faster than ever before and bring honor to his unit and the Army.

“Mind is the biggest thing in your body. You shouldn’t lose it. If you are determined, you can do anything. I am one example of that,” says Gunasekaran.

As an athlete since his teenage years, Gunasekaran says that he got a “new life” after he got the blade (刀锋) that he could run with confidence. “I started training as I used to before my leg was blown off, but I was more determined to do better as I knew that there would be many who would doubt my ability,” he says.

After the military games in China, this blade runner now is nursing bigger dreams. He wants to win medals at the Tokyo Paralympics in 2020 and bring honor to his country.

He has one more hurdle to cross before he can make it to the Tokyo Paralympics. “I have to participate in the trials and win there to make it to the Paralympics,” he says. He is already training with that goal in mind. “My job is to work hard. I will do that.”

1. What was Gunasekaran’s dream after losing one leg?
A.Staying in the army.B.Taking care of the farm.
C.Being a great athlete.D.Having an artificial leg.
2. Why was Gunasekaran more determined to do better?
A.To prove himself.B.To make a living.
C.To win himself honor.D.To defeat his competitor.
3. How can Gunasekaran make it to the Tokyo Paralympics?
A.By sharpening his blade.B.By winning the trials.
C.By tying more hurdles.D.By training professionally.
4. What does the underlined word “hurdle” probably mean in the last paragraph?
A.Difficulty.B.Race.C.Jump.D.Achievement.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文,本文首段描述了马拉松中的“撞墙期”,并且在下面提出了四种方法来克服困难,让自己表现更好。

9 . Distance runners often worry about “hitting the wall” during training or races, when negative thoughts become so overpowering that they make it difficult to continue.    1     At that time, the body’s glycogen (糖原) supplies become exhausted. As a result, many runners feel exhausted and discouraged, slow their pace, have trouble focusing and want to quit or walk.    2     Here are a few sports psychologist-approved techniques to try, which could have major benefits for an athlete’s performance and well-being.

1.Make a motivational song list. Distracting (分心) yourself with some great tunes can help you make it to the finish line faster.    3

2.Try the partner system. A running partner can keep you motivated and on-track, and might even improve your performance, research shows.

3.    4     A study on weight-lifters found that mental practices can be as effective as physical practice, resulting in actual muscle increases. Visualizing your if-then plan, for instance, could improve your chance of success.

4.Try “attention narrowing”.    5     Last year, an NYU study found that focusing on an object on the horizon makes the distance feel shorter, and leads runners to go faster and perform better than those who let their minds wander.

With these helpful strategies, your next personal record might be just around the corner.

A.Plan what to do.
B.Visualize achieving your goal.
C.Finding ways to move past those kinds of experiences is very vital.
D.“Hitting the wall” typically happens around 20 miles into a marathon.
E.There is evidence that saying motivational things to oneself benefits a lot.
F.Runners who focus their eyes on an object in the distance get there faster.
G.Studies show athletes run, bike and swim farther and faster when listening to music.
