Good afternoon, students and teachers. As a member of the International Olympic Committee, I am     1    (delight) to have been invited to your school to talk to you about the history and     2    (significant) of the Olympic Games. I’ll share some     3    (interest) facts and stories with you, and then we’ll have time for questions?

Do you know when the ancient Olympic Games began? It was in the year 776 BC. They     4    (hold) at Olympia in Greece every four years, for almost 12     5    (century), until AD 394.

Some of the sports from the ancient Olympics are still seen today, such as the long jump, wresting and running. At the ancient Olympics by tradition the athletes were all men and they had to compete     6    (wear) no clothes. Single women were allowed to take part in their own competition, at a separate festival in honour of Hera, the wife of the Greek god Zeus. Today, both male and female athletes from around the world can take part, no matter what nation they come     7    .

The contemporary Olympics were first held in 1896, in Athens. It was a Frenchman, Pierre de coubortin,    8     brought the Olympics back to life. He dreamed that the Olympics would make     9     possible for people of all countries to live side by side in peace. Now people all over the world are helping to realize this dream. Among them are many well-known athletes.

Did you know that perhaps the most famous boxer of all time first came to public attention during the 1960 Rome Olympics? He won the gold medal for the USA, under his birth name Cassius Clay. Afterwards, this young man went on to win the World Heavyweight Boxing Championship in 1964 and later changed his name to     10     one we all know, Muhammad Ali. He returned to the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996 to light the Olympic flame at the opening ceremony.

Exercise is something     1     can help to make you look good, feel good and be     2    (health). Experts suggest that teenagers     3     (spend) at least 30 minutes exercising, five    4     (time) a week. That is easy to do! Walking and riding your bike count, and so do school sports. Often, teenagers give up sports, saying they have no time left after     5     studies. Many teenagers are     6     (surprise) to learn that     7     you exercise, your body produces some chemicals that     8    (make) you feel peaceful and relaxed and increase your ability     9     concentrate when you study. These chemicals can even help you sleep better     10     night.

According to a review of evidence in a medical journal, runners live three years     1     (long) than non-runners .You don't have to run fast or for long     2     (see) the benefit. You may drink, smoke, be overweight and still reduce your risk of     3     (die) early by running.

While running     4     (regular) can't make you live forever, the review says it is more effective at lengthening life than walking, cycling or swimming. Two of the authors of the review also     5     (make) a study published in 2014     6     showed a mere five to 10 minutes a day of running reduce the risk of heart disease and early deaths from all     7     (cause) .

The best exercise is one that you enjoy and will do. But otherwise... it's probably running .To avoid knee pain, you can run on soft surfaces, do exercises to     8     (strength) your leg muscles (肌肉) ,avoid hills and get good running shoes. Running is cheap, easy and it's always     9     (energy) .If you are time poor, you need run for only half the time to get the same benefits as other sport, so perhaps we should all give it     10     try.

China Takes Falling Stars Challenge to a New Level

Falling star Challenge, which began in Russia, invites participants     1     (share) their best fake fall and recommend their friends to do the same, and people have been going to make their falls as dramatic as possible. At first, the falling stars Challenge     2    (regard) as a way for the wealthy to show off their possessions. People were lying face-down with luxurious jewelry, expensive items from high-end brands surrounding them.

However, as the challenge spread, it transformed from being a way of showing off to a creative way to show     3     people consider important in their lives. The social media craze soon made     4    (it) way to Weibo, a Chinese social media platform. A major difference with the Chinese version of the Challenge     5    (be) that professionals from different    6    ( industry) participated to show their daily routine. These include a firefighter lying in front of a row of fire trucks and     7     officer at an emergency call center on the ground with documents    8    (throw) in all directions.

While some pictures are intended     9     fun online, Chinese authorities are taking it     10    (serious). Some people who have participated in the trend have received tickets for breaking traffic laws to get the perfect photo.

The 7th CISM Military World Games (世界军运会) took place from Oct. 18 to Oct. 27, 2019 in Wuhan, capital city of     1    (centre) China's Hubei Province.

The games，the top sports gala for military personnel (军人), include 329 competition events of 27 kinds,     2    attracted around 8000 players from more than 100     3     (country) and regions.

The games are an international event with great importance and far-reaching influence and it is     4     opportunity for foreign military personnel     5    (learn) more about China and our military.

The event’s emblem(会徽) is made up    6     a dove, a star, ribbons and other elements and the mascot is called Bing Bing, and    7     (it) design is based on the Chinese sturgeon (鲟), a     8     (serious) endangered (濒临灭绝的) fish known as the “panda in water”. The slogan is “Military glory, world peace”.

The games, which     9     (hold) in Rome in 1995 for the first time, are a multi-sport event     10     (organize) every four years by the CISM.
