1 . Depression(抑郁症)in young adult males, ages 18 or 19, is linked to a 20% greater risk of having a heart attack in middle age, according to a new Swedish study.
The link can be partly explained by poorer stress resilience(抗压能力)and lower physical fitness among teens with mental disorders.
The research included 238,013 men born between 1958 and 1962 who were given examinations in adolescence(青春期)and were then followed into middle age(up to the age of 58 years). A total of 34,503 men were diagnosed(诊断)with a mental disorder.
The study found that a mental disorder in young adulthond was linked to a higher risk of having heart attack by middle age. Compared to men without a mental illness in young adulthood, the risk of heart attack was 20%higher among men with a diagnosis.
“We already knew that men who were physically fit in adolescence seem less likely to keep fitness in later years if they have low stress resilience,” said study author Dr. Bergh, “Our research has also shown that low stress resilience is also connected with a greater tendency towards bad behavior, such as higher risks of smoking, drinking and other drug use.”
“Better fitness in adolescence is likely to help protect against later heart disease, particularly if people stay fit as they age. Physical activities may also reduce some of the bad effects of stress. Those in poor health could benefit from additional support to encourage exercise and develop plans to deal with stress,” said Bergh.

An English Speech Contest
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________3 . I was speaking to the faculty (全体教师) at John F. Kennedy Elementary School in Canton, Massachusetts, a couple weeks ago. I arrived early and decided to take a walk.
There was a Little League field nearby. I spotted a sign on the fence .
The sign, posted by the Canton Little League, read:
PLEASE REMEMBER
·These are kids.
·This is a game.
·The coaches volunteer.
·You don’t play for the Red Sox (an American professional baseball team).
I had to laugh, especially at the joke about the Red Sox. But I think the sign is a good reminder to everyone connected with youth sports-kids, parents, coaches and the folks who run the leagues-what is important about the games.
First, kids who play are just kids. They are not mini professional athletes. So youth sports leagues and coaches should take it easy on them. Kids don’t need long schedules and lots of faraway games or high-pressure tournaments.
Adults should try to set up youth leagues so more kids play with and against kids from nearby schools and neighborhoods. They should make it easier for kids to play a sport for just a few months so that they can try other sports. Kids shouldn’t play one sport year-round.
And everyone should stop worrying about which team wins or loses. A friend of mine who coached a lot of youth teams once told me, “When you coach kids, it’s not how many you win or lose, but how many sign up for next season.” According to the Aspen Institute’s latest “State of Play” report, fewer kids are signing up. Research indicates a smaller percentage of kids ages 6 to 12 (37 percent) are playing team sports on a regular basis than in 2011 (42 percent).
The aim of youth sports should be to have fun, learn some skills and enjoy being part of a team. When we lose sight of those simple goals, the games suffer, and the kids stay away.
Maybe in 2021 every field or gym where kids play should have a sign like the one in Canton. All you would have to do is change the name of the team.

6 . Most young people enjoy some form of physical activity. . It may be walking, cycling or swimming, or in winter, skating or skiing. It may, be a game of some·kind, football, hockey, golf or tennis. It may be mountaineering.
Those who have a passion for climbing high and difficult, mountains are often looked upon with astonishment. Why are men and women willing to suffer cold and hardship, and to take risks on high mountains? This astonishment.is caused probably by the difference between mountaineering and other forms of activity to which men give their leisure.
Mountaineering is a sport and not a game. There are no man-made rules, as there are for such games as golf and football. There are, of course, rules of a different kind which it would be dangerous to ignore, but it is this freedom from man-made rules that makes mountaineering attractive to many people. Those who climb mountains are free to use their own methods.
If we compare mountaineering and other more familiar sports, we might think that one big difference is that mountaineering is not a “team game”. We should be mistaken in this. There are, it is true, no “matches” between teams of climbers, but when climbers are on a rock face linked by a rope on which their lives may depend, there is obviously team work. The mountain climber knows that he may have to fight forces that are stronger and more powerful than man. He has to fight the forces of nature. His sport requires high mental and physical qualities.
A mountain climber continues to improve in skill year after year. A skier is probably past his best by the age of thirty, and most international tennis champions are in their early twenties. But it is not unusual for a man of fifty or sixty to climb the highest mountains in the Alps. They may take more time than younger men, but they probably climb with more skill and less waste of effort, and they certainly experience equal enjoyment.

7 . The word “sport” first meant something that people did in their free time.Later it often meant hunting wild animals and birds.About a hundred years ago the word was first used for organized games. This is the usual meaning of the word today. People spend a lot of their spare time playing football, basketball, tennis and many other sports.Such people play because they want to. A few people are paid for the sport they play. These people are called professional (职业化的) sportsmen. They may be sportsmen for only a few years, but during that time the best ones can earn a lot of money.
For example, a professional footballer in England earns more than £30,000 a year. The stars can earn a lot more. International golf (高尔夫球) and tennis champions (冠军) can make more than £500,000 in a year. Of course, only a few sportsmen can earn as much money as that.It is only possible in sports for individuals (个人), like golf, tennis and motor racing (赛车). Perhaps the most surprising thing about sportsmen and money is this: the stars can earn more money from advertising (做广告) than from sports. As an advertisement for sports equipment doesn’t simply say “Buy our things.” It says “Buy the same shirt and shoes as ...” Famous sportsmen can even advertise things like watches and food. They allow the companies to use their names or a photograph of them and they are paid for this. Sports are no longer just something for people’s spare time.

As the proverb goes, “Good habits benefit from you all your life. ” Enter high school, I was crazy about fast food and ate too much. In consequence, I was too heavily overweight that I suffered a lot from my awkward appearance. Bad still, my classmates play jokes on me at times. From then on, I made up my mind to avoid snacks and to take up jogging to lose weights. Because of the timely change, it was not long after I did succeed in creating my new image. Only then did I realize the importance of forming good habit. To be honest, the change in our habit means a lot to me, that is good for my success and helps me regain confidence.
