文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了图书馆资金的几个主要来源。

6 . Public libraries are an excellent resource for research, literacy (读写能力) education, and reading-centered events. Most towns have one or share library services with other towns through a mobile library, and the use of a public library is free to people who are willing to apply for a library card.

There are several primary sources of library funding, starting with national funds which are distributed to states or provinces. These regions send the funds on to public libraries. Local governments also play an important role in providing funding for libraries, and most librarians apply for grants (拨款). Finally, private donations help to maintain libraries — most libraries have an association of Friends of the Library which organizes fund-raising sales and pays annual dues to help maintain the library.

Grants and private donations can also be used to provide a large amount of funding for public libraries, and some large libraries maintain a separate staff member to increase the amount of funding that they can obtain through these sources. Grants include technology grants which allow libraries to install and upgrade computer systems, grants which focus on a particular topic such as science, fiction, children’s books, or local history, and education grants which support locally-based community efforts such as after-school reading programs. Many private donors are pleased to support their local public libraries by donating funds or including some library in their wills, and libraries reward their donors with treats like after-hours visits or privileged access to special collections.

By combining multiple resources, creative librarians can keep their libraries useful, informative, and fun for browsers. When it comes to supporting public libraries, every little bit counts: if you cannot afford to donate to a local library, think about volunteering time to help shelve books, lead after-school programs, or organize fund-raisers. Being active with your public library is a very important way to contribute to your local community.

1. How many main sources of library funding are mentioned?
A.Two.B.Three.C.Four.D.Five.
2. How is the funding made use of according to the text?
A.By exploring more about history.
B.By developing a scientific computer system.
C.By providing help for after-school activities.
D.By enriching special collections for the donors.
3. What does the underlined word “browsers” refer to in the last paragraph?
A.Viewers in the library.
B.Programs used to view documents.
C.People running the library.

4. What is the text mainly about?

For example, Disney had always encouraged face-to-face interactions between cast members and customers. It made perfect sense since Disney spends so much time training its workers in providing good customer service. In fact, Disney is known for pleasing its guests, which explains why it scores so high in customer satisfaction surveys. Well, COVID-19 turned personal interactions into problematic exchanges, as they increased the risk of spreading COVID-19. So, quickly, Disney added cast member virtual chat to its app My Disney Experience. Now, you can rely on a cast member’s knowledge whenever you have a question about Disney visit. It's like having a tour guide on your phone!

There is also the Walk-Up Waitlist. Before 2020, Disney had made strict rules for its Table Service restaurants. Once something sold out, would-be diners had no means of booking a table. COVID-19 has affected park guests, though. Some of them booked tables but then decided not to eat there. This cost Disney money, and it prevented you from dining at your favorite places. So, restaurant managers felt unhappy about the poor business practice, and Disney’s IT department reached a solution. The Walk-Up Waitlist in My Disney Experience allows you to add your name at a restaurant. A previously booked restaurant will find a table for you to dine there. My Disney Experience shows the waiting time. You’ll know whether the wait will fit with your tour. 10 . Bamboo, the fast-growing grass plant common to Africa, Asia and Latin America, has been used for thousands of years to build houses, bridges, and scaffolding(脚手架).    1    .Yet, despite its excellent mechanical characteristics--bamboo is flexible, durable and has the strength of steel-this plant remains something of a forgotten solution in the construction world. Part of the problem is bamboo’s association with cheap, low-quality housing: a “poor man’s timber(木材)”.

2     . Founded in 2015, Bamboo U offers training courses that promote bamboo as a green construction material. The 11-day “build and design” course takes participants on a hands-on journey through the life cycle of bamboo: from harvesting and treatment, to design and construction. Participants then get to bring their own designs to life, or help create bamboo structures, with the help of a team of architects and designers. Bamboo construction may not be new.     3

In recent years, concerns about the unsustainability of building materials have caused a fresh look at “natural”construction. Research by the International Bamboo and Rattan Organization, INBAR, shows that bamboo can provide a low-carbon, renewable alternative to timber, steel and cement.     4    . As INBAR’s construction expert, Liu Kewei, puts it: “Bamboo is the sustainable timber of the future.”

Since 2015, Bamboo U has welcomed more than 400 people through its doors.    5    . According to Orin Hardy, the founder of Bamboo U: “We don’t believe that everyone needs to build structures like ours.” Bamboo U is “more about an understanding of the place you’re in. We want to remind people that nature can, and should, be in the built environment.”

A.Nonetheless, not everyone can build their house with bamboo.
B.It’s important to develop an appreciation for the craft.
C.Bamboo can also be used to create something new.
D.One organization is fighting to change this understanding.
E.The plant stores more carbon than certain species of trees.
F.However, Bamboo U is giving a much-needed push to this old craft.
G.Architects have called it “green steel”.
