Holidays play an important part in our life. We work hard during the year, so we feel tired and stressed at times.     1     We need holidays to relax, even if they only last for a few days. This is especially true for women. They could get away from their husbands, children and family for even one week in the year.

    2     假期有很多好处。Firstly, they can improve the economy (经济).     3       If there were no holidays, people would have little time to spend the money they earn. Secondly, holidays allow people to relax after working hard throughout the year. During and after the holidays, people feel more relaxed and energetic; they then bring this energy to work when they continue working. Lastly, holidays help people learn how to enjoy life.     4     Most people improve their relationships with their other family members during holidays.

However, holidays also have bad aspects. For example, many people said that they couldn’t enjoy shopping or travelling because there were so many people shopping and travelling, too. Anyway, most people realize that they need holidays.     5     我无法想象如果没有假期人们的生活会是什么样子。

Before the disturbing College Entrance Examination,     1     (我是如此悲观和焦虑不安，以至于我经常感到头晕).     2     (既疲惫又沮丧，我不能全神贯注于学习). Nothing could refresh my spirits. Limitless pain and uneasiness dominated my life and my heart felt as if it had been stabbed by a needle. Sensing my terrible state, my teachers did whatever they could to     3     (竭尽全力激发我的学习热情，增强我的自信心). Finally, I     4     (获得了巨大的进步), and my eyes were filled with joy and appreciation.

At the sight of the mess, Mr. Gates was so angry that he couldn't contain his anger. He turned around and     1     (愤怒地大声说), “You'd better explain what's going on！” Hiding himself behind the door, Franklin     2     (面无血色) .After what seemed for ages, Franklin eventually gathered courage to come out .He explained, “I was trying to create a surprise for you, Dad.” Hearing his words,    3    (泪如泉涌), Mr Gates     4    (拥抱了他).Then he said to his son, “I know you didn't do it by design. Never have I been more pleased and proud. Please forgive me, my son.”

The nearer the bear was,    1     (就越害怕). It stared at us, and we     2    (当场吓得呆住了). Then, I     3    (决定把面包扔到灌木丛里), hoping that the bear could be attracted. On smelling the bread, the bear     4     (注意力就集中在面包上) and tracked it along the path.    5     [就在那时, 我拍了一张令人惊叹的熊的照片(强调句)]. Eventually, the helicopter arrived, and we were rescued.

A Four-legged Guardian Angel

I just finished cleaning up the snow in the pool in preparation for selling the house. The year before, I had lost my job with the provincial government, and now we almost ran out of all of our savings,     1    (这意味着我将同时失去我们美丽的房子和挚爱的伙伴Brigitte). This thought nearly knocked me down.

Deep in sadness, I sat typing up resumes for job. Out of the corner of my eye I could see my thirteen-month-old son Forrest playing near our big, gentle, intelligent dog Brigitte. And I recalled this family. the scene of adopting him on a cold winter night. It seemed as if Brigitte was always meant to be in this family.

Thinking of these, I couldn’t help letting out a sigh and continued working. Suddenly, Brigitte began barking furiously and running back and forth to the glass door overlooking our pool. I raced to see what was happening.     2    (既吃惊又害怕，我发现玻璃门打开了，Forrest也不见了). In panic, I ran outside. There, I was surprised to see Brigitte, who was terrified of water, dive into the pool. Looking in the direction of his moving, I was shocked to find Forrest struggling in the water     3    (我立刻跳入水中，朝着Forrest 游去，并将他抱起). After getting him out or the pool, I dialed 911 with shaking hand while giving Forres t first aid. Moments later, an ambulance arrived and rushed us to the hospital, where the doctors gave him a thorough check While waiting for the result, I made up my mind     4    (尽管我们家经济状况不好，我也永远不会舍弃Brigitte)

Finally, we arrived home, safe and sound. On seeing us, Brigitte began barking excitedly and turning in circles cheerfully Since then, Brigitte never left my son an inch.     5    (Brigitte确确实实是我们一家的守护天使).

The swimming pool witnessed the close bond formed between my families and Brigitte.
