6 . It’s the holiday season, and you are on a long break from school and athletics. How do you make sure you stay fit during the holidays? Follow the five tips to keep yourself moving during the holidays.
Have a plan. Create a plan for your training sessions. This can make sure you “complete X amount of workouts a week” and have workouts scheduled into your day.
Move.
Get enough sleep and rest. Enough rest will reduce the risk of injury. What’s more, it will provide a necessary mental reset. During the school year, you maintain a very busy schedule and sometimes sleep is not high on your priority list. While you have the time to rest, you should!
Be realistic. This is the holiday season, after all!

7 . Ever think you’re getting enough sleep only to wake up tired? It’s not just you-it happens to the best of us. Now, scientists say they have discovered the secret to waking up clear-headed and refreshed each and every morning.
According to a new study from the University of California, Berkeley, published in Nature Communications, beyond sleep quality, the second main feature predicting day-to-day changes in morning alertness (机敏) was the intensity of physical activity the day before. In particular, researchers found that when the extent of an individual’s physical activity was comparatively greater the day before, people felt more alert the next morning.
Another factor happens not on the day before or even the night before, but the that participants consumed for breakfast that explained their alertness levels. When individuals consumed the “high carbs”(高碳水)breakfast, they experienced higher levels of alertness.
Beyond the effects of the high carbohydrate meal itself, one of the strongest outcomes shown in the study was the marked reduction in alertness on days when participants consumed a lot of sugar. It may sound paradoxical that a lot of sugar predicts a drop in alertness and the high carb breakfast is linked to an increase in alertness. But, despite their common high carbohydrate content, there are key nutritional (营养的) differences between the high-carb and sugar meals.
Raphael Vallat, first author of the study, said, “If you have better sleep quality, you’re going to see an increase in your alertness. If you run two kilometers on the day before, you’re going to see an increase. You can see improvements with each and every one of these factors.”

8 . City life is cool: but is country life cooler? The answer is yes. As cities grow ever bigger, lots of people would like to leave their city and live in the countryside.
The English countryside has a classic image. People imagine that life in the countryside is slow and calm; that people have more space and most houses have gardens; that there are no traffic jams, no pollution, and no crime.
People in Britain want to live in the countryside. It is causing problems in some rural areas. People live in the countryside and work in the city.

9 . Anger is a natural feeling that everyone experiences in life. Some researchers believe the first sound a baby makes when born could be a sign of anger. Anger may be the first feeling we have and respond to. It’s in many cases a perfectly healthy feeling. Anger can cause people to make very positive changes in their lives. Sometimes we have to be angry at injustice (不公正), at wrong doings, or even at nature, before we can do what needs to be done to correct wrongs or make things better. But of course, that is not how we usually think of anger.
Most people think of anger as a feeling we must keep under control. Children are sometimes sent to their rooms or punished for expressing anger in an uncontrolled way. Parents tell a child to control himself when the child shows anger. We may be angry with friends or at work, but we know it’s not right to show it. Very early in life, we learn that anger is something that must be controlled.
We learn this for a good reason. Uncontrolled anger can lead to fights, car accidents, bad relationships with others, unacceptable social behavior, and many other problems. However, many experts say that if one suppresses his anger, he may suffer serious mental and physical health problems. So what can we do to understand and calm this feeling?
One solution is to talk about it with someone we trust, for example, a good friend. We can also try to walk away from a situation that causes anger, ask a doctor for advice, or just exercise more in our daily life. And of course we may have many other methods. Whatever solution we choose, as long as we are trying to find the solution to the problem, we have already taken the first step in the right direction.

10 . In 2016, I suffered from Seasonal Affective Disorder(SAD) a form of depression(抑郁症) that is found to make people feel low in the UK between September and April. During that cold and wet period, I got comfort in books.
Books have been used by many to reduce depression. I lose myself into them as thirstily as usually get my morning coffee. Each Christmas, I have a habit of returning to the old favorite books that make up for my emptiness, such as Jane Eyre. Sometimes, to escape from the cold, I run back to the heat that I am used to, so I will read a lot of books set in Africa.
It became important for me to find a way to escape my sadness in the world of books. And isn’t that what art and literature is for? According to JJ Bola, the author of No Place to Call Home, “The world can get you so down that you think you’re the only person going through what you’re going through. But then you read and you realize that you are not alone that if someone else has gone through it and survived, then maybe you can, too.” It is this survival that the reader looks for, that is, the understanding that the winter is not so long after all.
