On our way to the house, it was raining    1     hard that we couldn't help wondering how long it would take    2    (get) there. It was in the middle of Pearl City.

Have you ever dreamed of being famous     1     a popular musician? Many musicians, at first, may form a band     2     (practice) their music. Out of a home bakery (烘焙) in Bowie, Maryland, a young businessman gives one cupcake away to someone in need, for each one he sells. Behind the operation is 14 -year-old Michael Platt. He runs a company    1     model is based on another company of charity.

Platt recently got     2       order for a few dozen cupcakes, and as promised, he doubled the order and packed up the extra cupcakes to bring to    3     (home) people on the streets. Now, he focuses       4       his business and charity, hoping to open several grocery     5       (store) for people who want to shop for affordable things. China has become the first country to land a spacecraft on the far side of the moon. The unmanned Chang’e-4 probe (探测器) - the name was inspired by an ancient Chinese moon goddess     1     (touch) down last week in the South Pole-Aitken basin. Landing on the moon’s far side is     2     (extreme) challenging. Because the moon’s body blocks direct radio communication with a probe, China first had to put a satellite in orbit above the moon in a spot     3     it could send signals to the spacecraft and to Earth. Different countries have wildly different forms of greeting.

In the USA, when you pass by someone you know, a nod is acceptable, and you usually shake hands with someone you first meet. But in Latin countries, a firm handshake    1    (consider) rude. In my home country, Mauritius, when people meet, they usually kiss each other     2     the cheeks. This is also common in France,     3     the act is called faire la bise. However, this is not     4    universal rule.

During my first week in the USA, I kissed every single girl I met. My friends had to tell me that that was inappropriate,    5    (leave) me in great embarrassment. What is common here, however, is for friends    6    (hug) each other – something I was not used to. Hugs always make me     7    (frighten) because I don’t really like that. This may seem strange since even kissing     8    (stranger) is normal in my country. Now that I think about it, I hate cheek-kissing as well.

Last summer, my friend and I hired (租)a car and headed for Toronto. We didn’t book (预订) a hotel room because it was at the    1    (begin) of September and we thought it would be easy for us    2    (find) a hotel.

We have been driving for six hours when the weather changed and it looked as if a thunderstorm (雷暴) was coming. We got lost and both were    3    (hunger)when I saw an old lady    4    (park) her car. I stopped and asked if she knew a hotel nearby. She said that there was a hotel down the road,     5    it had been closed. It was the old lady    6    looked at me and said,“Why don’t you girls just stay the night at my house? I’ll cook for you.”

We ended up going to a little island in Lake Muskoka,     7    her family lived. We slept in the    8    (comfort) beds they built for their kids, and they cooked for us. We    9    (stay) at their house for three nights in all and also met their friends. Those days were the    10    (good) part of our three-week trip! We were glad that we got lost and met the old lady.

9 . I recently visited Beijing with my parents and younger brother. We had a     1    (wonder) time on the two-day tour we arranged through     2    travel agency.

    3    the morning of July 11th, the day after we arrived in Beijing, our guide Miss Wu took us to visit the Ming Tombs. We spent about an hour     4    (look) around the tombs. On the morning of the next day, we were taken to see the Bird’s Nest and the Water Cube, the main Olympic stadiums     9    (build) for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. In the afternoon, we were taken to see the Forbidden City, which was one of the most famous     10    (attract). It was huge, so we spent the whole afternoon there.

My friend had a chance to make a trip to Hong Kong    1     August 15, 2015. He had dreamed about     2    (visit) it since his boyhood and it was the first time that he    3    (be) there. The following was what he had seen.

Arriving there, he was     4    (surprise) by its beautiful scenery and tall     5    (building). As we all know, Hong Kong has the most skyscrapers in the world. Wherever he     6    (go), he saw many smiling faces. People in Hong Kong were kind, generous, easy-going and ready to help others. Much to his surprise, he saw that people there always kept order in public places.     7    a great number of people were waiting for the next train at the subway station, they were talking in such     8     low voice as not to bother others.
