The Scream was painted by Edvard Munch in 1893. What makes     1     striking is that it shows a thin figure     2     an expression of fear——the figure’s mouth is wide open and letting out a     3    (power) scream. In     3     early 17th century, India was ruled by an emperor     4     (name) Shah Jahan. The emperor loved his wife so much that when she died, he built the TajMahal in her memoy. Shah Jahan was later buried next     5     his wife, and the couple now rest together forever.

If the Taj Mahal is a     6     (celebrate) of the heart, then the Imperial Tombs of the Ming and Qing Dynasties are a monument (纪念碑) to the mind and spirit. Nelson Mandela is a great man. The black people in South Africa are grateful to     1    (he) for what he did.

At one time black people were not treated equally. It was not easy for them to find a good job and many families were too poor to afford their children's     2     (educate). In 1952, Mandela set up a law office to help the poor black people     3     trouble. It was with his guidance that those     4     lost heart in life became     5     (hope) about their future. As     6     matter of fact, it was Mandela's dream to help black people get the same rights     7     white people. However, the government was so angry with him that he     8     (put) into prison for life on Robben Island for being one of the ANC leaders. He was released in 1990 and was voted President of South Africa in 1994. Now black people in his country live a much     9     (good) life than before.

Have you heard of World Book Day? It is a celebration of authors,    1     (painter), books and most importantly it's a celebration of reading. It’s the biggest celebration of     2     (it) kind, appointed by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and    3     (mark) in over 100 countries all over the world.

The main aim of World Book Day is to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading by     4     (provide) them with the opportunity to have a book of their own.

Book tokens (代币) will be given to children so they can buy books from     5     list of titles.

The date of World Book Day changes every year. In the UK and Ireland, World Book Day is     6     the first Thursday of March. Everyone     9     loves books can take part in World Book Day. It is devoted to getting children closer to the books and authors they already love     10     helping them discover new books and authors they will love just as much.

Nick replied, “The only reason why a man would sell salt at a lower price would be that he was desperate for (渴望) money.
