1 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

My darling grandma has a collection of photo albums kept over several decades. I enjoyed joking with grandma about her preferred old-fashioned method of photo storage, but I know that these albums are precious for her. They are the records of our family and our identity.

One day while examining one of grandma’s albums, I came across photos of my mother and her brother as children in Disney World in the 1980’s. Grandma looked thoughtful and smiled. “Your mother and your uncle had such an amazing time,” she said. “I’m glad I was able to make that vacation happen for them. Every child should visit Disney at least once and just get to be a kid... happy and carefree.” As I continued examining the photos, I noticed something which didn’t sit right with me. In every photo my grandmother was in, she was smiling in an unsettled, half-hearted way where her smile didn’t quite reach her eyes. When I asked her about it, she gently closed the album and said, “Oh, now enough of these old photos. Let’s talk about what we’re going to do for Christmas next month.”

That evening, I quietly asked my mother about the photos and the family trip to Disneyland. Mom breathed out. She explained that my grandparents were constantly fighting and that they had been having problems in their marriage. “I think that was probably the last trip we took together as a family before they separated,” Mom said. “Your grandma was so sad the entire week we were there, but she did everything she could to make sure your uncle and I had a great experience. We had been begging to go to Disney for so long. She organized the entire trip for our pleasure. I’m sure it was all physically and emotionally tiring for her.”

That night I turned restlessly in my bed thinking about the devotion my grandmother had for her children and about how even today she continues to put the needs of everyone in our family above her own. Grandma does so much for her children and grandchildren every day.

2 . 读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Last Saturday, Jordon was taking a walk in the park near his home when he noticed a woman with a boy of about seven years old. When Jordon passed them, he heard the woman yell, “How stupid you are! You are good at nothing.” Jordon stopped and looked at the little boy. The boy said nothing. He just stood there, looking upset.

Jordon was reminded of his English teacher Mrs Mary in middle school. He was often told that he was good at nothing. But one day it all changed. One day, in an English writing class, Mrs Mary asked them to read a novel. They were asked to write a new chapter (章节) of the novel after they finished reading the book. A few days later, Jordon handed in his story. But the next day to his surprise, the comment (评价) “well done” from Mrs Mary came into view the moment he turned to the page where the story was written. When Jordon read that, he almost burst into tears. That day after he returned home, he wrote a short story and gave it to Mrs Mary the next morning. And again he was praised.

Jordon became very interested in writing. He often wrote short stories and asked Mrs Mary to read them and correct them for him. Mrs Mary always corrected them for him and gave him good advice to improve them. One year later, he was no longer that boy who lacked self-confidence. He gained his confidence and was hopeful about his future. Several years after graduating from college, he had his first book published and became famous as a writer in his country. And he owed his success to Mrs Mary’s encouragement. Without her encouragement, his life might be very different now.

3 . 阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。

After we returned to live in beautiful, sunny Italy from Germany, something funny happened between us and our neighbor, and thus started our unforgettable friendship.

Moving my family from Germany to Italy wasn’t easy, especially with our cat and dog. We settled where we had been living once before, in the town of Aviano, Italy. I had been teaching there years ago and was now returning as a psychology professor in a university. We loved the town because it was like stepping back in time 100 years. Everything seemed old-fashioned.

Because it’s a small town, everyone knows everyone, and gossip circulates fast. We knew we’d score good points for bringing an aging grandma with us since older people are respected in Italy. However, we knew that we would have to be careful not to let our pets out into the public too much. Many people still kept gardens and didn’t appreciate cats and dogs getting into their yards and digging up their vegetables.

We let our pets out a few hours at a time to get used to the area, but our cat Vicky was an immediate cause for concern. Vicky was attracted to human wear and would pick up whatever she could carry and bring it home. One sunny morning, our next-door neighbor was hanging out her laundry(洗的衣物). As soon as the woman finished and went indoors, Vicky climbed up the steps to the clothesline and caught the only thing she could reach. She went home proudly showing us her prize. It was a lovely children’s dress with attractive laces.

My husband took it from the cat and noted that she was careful not to get it dirtied. I decided to come back to the neighbor’s place and hang it back up.

So, I went back to the neighbor’s place while my husband was upstairs at our place to give warnings if he saw any movement. I was hanging up the dress when the neighbor’s door opened and the woman went out.

“This is such a simple sum (算术); don’t you know how to solve it? You silly girl!” Emma was laughing at her classmate Elva for not being able to solve an easy maths sum.

Head teacher Miss Maria was about to come in when she heard Emma laughing at Elva. Elva felt heartbroken and left the classroom, crying. She didn’t see Miss Maria standing there.

“Emma, you shouldn’t have treated Elva like that. You know her situation. Please don’t make her feel uncomfortable and helpless like that. We are classmates!” Eric said, trying to make Emma understand the pain she caused others.

But Emma was clearly unable to understand, “I just pointed out the fact that it was a simple sum and she couldn’t even do it. She really is a stupid girl. What’s wrong with that?”

Eric was upset, “This constant criticism ( 不断的批评) of yours can destroy her confidence. Please try to understand and give her some space to learn. She needs more time to understand this sum.”

Emma was the bully of the class and she didn’t even realize it. She used to criticize her classmates all the time, unable to understand the damage she caused by laughing and criticizing them.

One day, when Elva fell outside the class, Emma started laughing at her rather than helping her. “You can’t even walk properly. Silly!”

Miss Maria wanted to make Emma understand the pain she brought to others. The next day, while giving the lecture, Miss Maria called Emma, “Emma! Come and solve this question, please.”

Emma was extremely shocked because she didn’t know the solution. She started panicking (惊慌).

Miss Maria laughed at her, “Emma, it’s such a simple question. How can you not do it?”

5 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

When the final bell rang, the students were reminded that there was no school on Monday—Labor Day (May Day). “Enjoy your extra day off, ” said the teacher to her class. An extra day of fun suited Kayla just fine. She loved breaks. She wanted to go out to play with her friends. When she got off the school bus, Kayla ran into the house happily.

“How was school, Kayla?” asked her mom.

“It was great, Mom. I am excited about no school on Monday. ”

“You just started back to school two weeks ago. Already in need of a break, huh?” asked Kayla’s mom with a laugh.

Kayla slept in the next morning. Saturday was her favorite day of the week. It rained most of the day, so Kayla enjoyed playing video games inside. On Sunday, her friends came over and they played basketball for several hours. Then it was Labor Day, you know, the extra day off that Kayla was so looking forward to. But Kayla was awakened early that morning by her dad. He told Kayla that in celebration of Labor Day, the family would do some labour work. Kayla couldn’t believe it. This was a holiday! A day when she was supposed to be enjoying freshly squeezed lemonade while playing in her tree house. As Kayla wiped her eyes, she began to wonder if this was just a bad dream.

“Kayla, your breakfast is ready. We have a lot of work to do today. Let’s get a move on, ” said Kayla’s mom. As she sat down at the kitchen table, Kayla asked her parents, “Are you serious about working today? Isn’t Labor Day a holiday?”

“Yes, Kayla. It is, ” replied her dad. “But we thought working hard today would make you understand why Labor Day was observed initially. “Though feeling disappointed and even a little annoyed, Kayla had no choice.

6 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。

Peter woke up early in the morning. He went downstairs in a hurry and started to have his breakfast as quickly as possible.

“Why are you in such a hurry, early bird?” Mum asked him. “We will have an English spelling test today, Mum,” Peter said. “Mr. White promised to offer prizes to those who get 100 scores. I’ve been studying the word list since last week. Although the words are difficult, I am well prepared for them.”

Peter reviewed the spelling of each word once more carefully when Dad drove him to school. At last, it was time for the students to have a test. “Responsibility,” Mr. White started. Peter wrote it on his test paper quickly and confidently.

“The second word: contribution,” Mr. White said.

“So easy,” Peter thought. He quickly wrote the word down.

Thirty words later, the test papers were collected by Mr. White. “I am to mark your papers now,” he told the class. After marking the test papers, Mr. White said, “Three of you won a prize today for excellent test scores. Peter, David and Mary got full marks on the spelling test!”

Mr. White praised them. Meanwhile, he gave the three students each a dictionary. Peter’s was an English-Chinese dictionary—the one he liked best. Peter was so excited that he held it high when his classmates cheered. “This is my happiest moment,” Peter thought.

After Mr. White gave the test paper back, Peter had a look at the words, feeling proud of his spelling. All of a sudden, the word “contribusion” confused him. It didn’t seem right. Peter began to compare them after taking out the word list. “C-O-N-T-R-I-B-U-S-I-O-N,” he whispered. He spelled it wrong.

“What am I to do?” Peter said to himself. “I expect my classmates to think I’m a master at spelling. If I tell Mr. White one of my spelling words is wrong, I’ll have to give my prize back, or I will become an example for telling a lie.”

Staring at the full marks written on his test paper, Peter was lost in thought. After a while, he remembered a lesson Mum used to teach him, “We ought to be an honest person.”

8 . 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

It was a dark night in Texas when Luke Armstrong drove into town. He had a lot of things on his mind, and he was driving slowly, thinking of solutions to his problems. He had a sick daughter named Anne, and he was worried she would give in to her illness before he could gather enough money to pay for the surgery (外科手术).

Suddenly, he noticed a flashy sports car parked by the side of the road. It looked like it had a broken tire, but Luke couldn’t be too sure. He passed it without giving it a second thought and continued down the road.

He was so lost in thought that he almost missed the prone (俯卧的) figure of a human lying just by the side of the road. “What is it?” he said to himself and his truck stopped beside the figure.

It was a woman, and she was weak. Luke immediately knew he had to help her as soon as possible. He noticed her expensive outfit as he lifted her. “Perhaps she owns the fancy car I saw a few minutes ago,” Luke said to himself as he moved her to his truck and turned on the heater.

He noticed that she seemed to be having trouble breathing, so he called 911 and reported his exact location as well as the predicament (困境) he found the woman in.

Soon the ambulance came, and the woman was carried away.

After checking on his daughter the next day, Luke decided to see how the woman he rescued was feeling. He had been told she was getting treated in the same hospital. It turned out that she was no longer in danger. She was very grateful for his kindness. After learning about his daughter, she expressed great sympathy (同情).

I was watching some little kids play soccer. These kids were only five or six years old. The teams were pretty evenly (平均地) matched. I will just call them Team One and Team Two. Nobody scored in the first period. They fell over their own feet, they fell over the ball, they kicked at the ball and missed it, but they didn’t seem to care. They were having fun.

In the second quarter, the Team One coach pulled out what must have been his first team and put in the uniforms, except for his best player who now guarded the goal. The game took a dramatic turn.

Team Two gathered around the little guy who was now the Team One goalkeeper. He was an outstanding athlete, but he was no match for three or four who were also very good. Team Two began to score. The little guy gave it everything he had, recklessly (不顾一切地) throwing his body in front of incoming balls, trying bravely to stop them. Team Two scored two goals quickly. With all the strength, he covered the boy who now had the ball, but that boy kicked it to another boy twenty feet away, and by the time he re-positioned himself, it was too late—Team Two scored a third goal.

After the third goal, the little kid changed. He could see it was no use. The little boy needed help so badly, and there was no help to be had. He got the ball from the net and handed it to the coach and then he cried. He just stood there while huge tears rolled down both cheeks. He went to his knees and put his fists to his eyes—and he cried, helpless and broken-hearted.

10 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

When I was a kid, my father, was a car lover. He was a member of the Toronto Modified Car Club in the 1950s and early 1960s. In 1979, we moved from Toronto to Los Angeles. We had to sell pretty much everything, our cars, our furniture. We flew out to L.A., and the next day, my dad walked to a used car lot and bought a Cutlass Supreme. He painted the wheels the same color as the car’s body. That was our family car and our only car, all through the 1980s.

In the 1990s, my dad got a company car. The Oldsmobile sat in the garage and started to get ignored. I became a car guy and got a 1969 Mustang when I was 21. I tore it apart, rebuilt the engine.

There were a bunch of other cars I worked on, all Ford and Shelby stuff, and I built a number of car-themed guitars, with Shelby colors and configurations(配置). But I always loved the Oldsmobile. I would wash it every now and then, and start it up.

Around 2012, my father threw out the idea of getting rid of the Oldsmobile because he did not like to see it decaying(衰败). I said, “No way. Why don’t you let me play around with it?” I drove the car home and dove in.

I had worked on so many cars, but never any General Motors products. Mustangs were easy to tear down; you could do it in a couple days. But this Oldsmobile had so many small pieces. It took a long time to take apart. I sent some parts of the car to a guy in New Jersey to be rebuilt. I got the seats changed and I had a paint guy do the paint. But the rest of it I did myself. Along the way, my father would ask how it was going. I would downplay it, “It’s going really slow.”

1.续写词数应为150左右;

I finally got it all together, and it happened to be Father’s Day.
