2 . I’m now at a special university where 46 speech and hearing impaired (受损) students graduate each year. Every morning, I made it a practice of setting the intention (意图) in my heart of “May I be a tool for them to get what they need right now?”.
Today, one girl came and sat down. I started with how we usually do. She can speak but cannot hear and lip-read. I asked one question, and she went on for 10 minutes straight, and in Tamil (泰米尔语). I understood a couple of words here and there, so I understood that she was not saying anything connected with what I asked. I just kept on listening to her without speaking a word. This went on for an hour and a half! Then, after a long pause, I told her to get back on track with another question. And then she shared for another half an hour straight! The whole time I was just looking in her eyes which would go here and there but come back to me. In the end, I just got up and hugged her and she was smiling wider.
Then I invited her to have juice with me. She said yes. What put me in a state of fear was realizing, just a few minutes later, that treating my new friend to some juice was the first celebration of my very first salary! A month ago, I started my first job, and what a blessing to have this important moment in my life be rooted in generosity.

4 . Over 5 million shared bikes in China are using services offered by Beidou Navigation Satellite System (北斗卫星导航系统).These shared bikes all use Beidou-based positioning chips (芯片).
The chips have high qualities. They can deal with information accurately and quickly. They feature low power consumption They provide a better user experience and easier management for the local companies. Now,several new models of shared electric bikes with Beidou-based chips have also started to be produced and put into market. Besides positioning and navigation, the chips will help users and shared bike companies record users’ speed and battery condition of an electric bike. The possible crimes during the bike using will also be recorded.
In fact, years ago, shared bike companies began to use positioning chips which worked well with both GPS and Beidou services. After the Beidou system became fully in use in the summer of 2020,shared bike companies started installing (安装) Beidou-based chips on more bikes in more areas. The latest chips which are popular with shared bike companies are smaller and have more advantages over the old types.
Since 2000,a total of 59 Beidou satellites have been lifted from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in Sichuan Province. After the final satellite was lifted in 202the system was completed and started providing global services.Beidou Satellite System is designed and developed by China and it is one of four global navigation networks, along with the United States’ GPS,Russia’s GLONASS and the European Union’s Galileo.

7 . One day, Bella Broadley and Elyse Partridge were enjoying a picnic on Angels Beach in Australia when a woman approached their group. “We were just having a little picnic at the beach with some friends and this woman came up to us and said, ‘I can’t swim and my girls are drowning(溺水)’and we just jumped into action.” Partridge, now age 20 said.
The two 11-year-olds, Chloe and Violet, got caught in the water and were overwhelmed by the waves. To make things worse, it was around 8 p.m. and getting dark. “It was so rough and it was crazy,” Broadley, 19, said. “I was just swimming out and thinking, ‘Oh my gosh, how am I going to get back in? This is bad.’ But luckily I had the cooler lid(盖子) for part of the way to keep my head above the water and once I got to Chole I just swam hard,” she said. Broadley handed the cooler lid off to Chloe and swam further out to get Violet. Partridge was close behind, and swam Chloe back to shore.
“I remember just throwing my arms around her and trying to swim in, but we ended up hitting the rocks,” Partridge said. “I ended up being quite bruised(青肿) and had lots of cuts all over my hands from the rocks but obviously I’m fine and it would have been scarier in the water.”
Eventually both girls were guided back to safety. Later, Chloe and Violet described how they swallowed seawater and were increasingly exhausted by their fight to keep their heads above water. Violet needed to spend the night in hospital.
Bystanders and police told Broadley and Partridge that without their help, the younger girls would likely not have survived. On Wednesday , Broadley and Partridge were named on the Bravery Honours List, which recognized 66 Australians for acts of bravery.

10 . Doctor Eleanor Love knows that weddings create a lot of leftover (遗留) flowers, and that means more chances for her to collect the after-wedding flowers and give them to her lonely hospital patients, many of whom don’t often get visitors, not to mention expensive flowers. The flowers are still in good shape, and the patients are very happy to have them.
Love worked at the Virginia Commonwealth University Hospital as a medical student. She wondered how she could help relieve (减轻) their suffering and how to treat them as a student doctor.
“One of the challenges of being a medical student is that it can be very difficult to contribute to the care team,” said Love. “You are there as a learner, but you want to make an impact on your patients, and you don’t have the same knowledge as physicians. How can I at this stage in my training make an impact on patients?”
So in 2022, she started The Simple Sunflower in Richmond, and so far she has delivered more than 760 bunches of flowers to patients. She brought fellow students and other people into her project, and now has more than 200 volunteers on the email list. When Love began the project, she called businesses such as wedding venues (场馆) and florists and asked them what events were scheduled. For each wedding, she organized a team of eight volunteers who helped pick up the flowers when the party was over and then spent time delivering them to individual patients.
People beyond the VCU community have heard about Love’s project and got involved.
“It’s so satisfying to see the patients who receive our flowers,” she said. “It reminds me why we do what we do.”
