文章大意:这是一篇说明文。本文主要说明了日记和博客的不同之处,作者结合自身的经历,分别分析了两者的优点和缺点。

2 . Years ago, if a teenager had some problems in his or her life, he or she might write in his or her diary. Now a teenager with the same problems might go onto the Internet and write about them in a blog. In many ways, a diary and a blog are almost the same. So, what makes a blog different from a diary?

The biggest difference is that a blog is much more public than a diary. Usually, a teenager treats his or her diary like a book full of secrets. Both diaries and blogs tell what happened to the writer that day.

I have a little sister, and sometimes I go online to read her blog. She writes about things like waking up early for swimming practice and not studying enough for her chemistry exam. When I was her age, I wrote about the same things, but only in my diary. Then, after I finished writing. I would hide my diary in a secret place because I was worried that my sister might read it!

Because a blog is such a public way of writing. It has both good and bad points. The biggest problem with a blog is that anyone can read what you write. If I am angry with a friend during school and write something bad about her in my diary, she will never know. However, if my sister writes something bad about a friend, that friend may read her blog and get angry. So we have to be very careful of what we write.

A blog has good point, of course. People choose to write in blogs because they know that their friends will read what they write. If I am feeling sad one day and write in my diary, “Nobody cares about me.” No one will know about it. However, if my sister writes the same words in her blog. Her best friends will quickly and tell her how much they like her.

If people are careful about what they write, blogs are a very good way to write about everyday life. However, I still prefer my old diary!

1. The biggest difference between a blog and a diary is that ________.
A.a blog is more popularB.a blog is more convenient
C.a blog has more good pointsD.a blog is more public
2. Why did the writer hide the diary after finishing writing?
A.Because he didn’t want his sister to read it.
B.Because he thought his family would read it.
C.Because he liked hiding everything.
D.Because he was worried that what he wrote made his sister angry.
3. Which one is NOT the writer’s idea?
A.A diary is safer than a blog.
B.A diary and a blog are almost the same in many ways.
C.Blogs can help people stay in contact with their friends.
D.Blogs are the best way to write about everyday life.
4. The passage mainly talks about ________.
A.the teenagers’ problems in their livesB.the differences between a diary and a blog
C.the good points of writing blogsD.different ways to write about everyday life

4 . ALL NEW!

REPTILE PETTING ZOO

at the Oak Park Nature Center

Kids! Are you tired of Mom or Dad dragging you to the same old petting zoos where (if you’re lucky) you might get to touch a little rabbit or goat?

Mom or Dad! Are you tired of hearing your kids complain about how animals in the same old petting zoos are boring?

Consider This:

The fact is that most mammals are boringly warm furry and come in a limited range of dull colors. Reptiles, on the other hand, are cold-blooded and covered with scale (鳞) of attractive colors, from bright green to bright red to dark purple-red. Some, like the chameleon can even CHANGE colors. Did you ever see a rabbit with scales and a purple tongue almost as long as its body? NO! In our zoo, you can see pet skink (小蜥蜴), snakes, bearded dragons and other attractive creatures! Learn what these reptiles eat and how they care for their babies, which ones live in the desert and which live in wetlands, which ones are meat-eaters and which are vegetarians, which ones are deadly poisonous and which are not.

So Remember:

If you’re bored with furry animals like rabbits...

Then the place for YOU is the Reptile Petting Zoo!

Bring the WHOLE family — Grandpa, Grandma, Cousin Irene, even baby Joe! There’s something for EVERYONE!

1. People might like the animals in a reptile petting zoo because they are ______.
A.warm and furryB.frightening and dangerous
C.lovely and friendlyD.special and interesting
2. What can we learn from paragraph 3?
A.A trip to the zoo can be an educational experience.
B.Reptiles are quite different from mammals.
C.A visitor to the zoo can care for baby reptiles.
D.Reptiles come in a limited range of colors.
3. What you’ve read is most probably a(n) ______.
A.noticeB.advertisementC.news reportD.book review

Cuyahoga Valley National Park

33, 000 acres of forests wait between Cleveland and Akron, all along the snaking Cuyahoga River. The park will delight you with plenty of outdoor activities suiting every interest, but do not climb over the fenced areas, rocks, or Brandywine Falls. Now the red maple trees will be visually on fire, which you can enjoy from the comfort of the tourist railway — Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad.

Gateway Arch National Park

This urban park comes back thanks to the Arch’s new Museum and Visitor Center. Give your feet a break after walking over five miles of park pathways with a ride to the top of the Arch to enjoy beautiful leaves. You can even bring your dog: the park is hosting Arch Bark every October.

Extending some 160 miles along the northern coast of the Gulf of Mexico, this series of parks includes a historic building, untouched barrier islands, and sugar-white beaches.
