I feel     1    (luck) to have won a place on this trip. Next week we are going to Loulan, which is known as China’s Pompeii in the desert. This morning we attended a lecture about Pompeii. The city     2    (found) in the 8th century BC. In 89BC, the Romans took     3     Pompeii. Near the city was a volcano. On 24 August AD 79, the volcano erupted. Many people were buried alive, and so was     4     city. Today I     5    (see) the city of Pompeii as it was 2,000 years ago. How amazing! The city was forgotten for many years     6     the 18th century when a farmer discovered a stone with writing on it. People started to dig in this area for treasure,     7     caused much damage. Thus, in 1860, the area was put under government     8     (protect) so it could be preserved and studied. The volcano is still there, but looks very quiet now. It is hard     9     (imagine) how this     10     (peace) volcano destroyed the whole city!

A team of over 30 Chinese surveyors left the base camp at Mount Qomolangma for a higher spot    1    its journey to the peak Wednesday as part of the country’s mission to remeasure the height of the world's highest mountain.

China has started a campaign to measure the height of Mount Qomolangma ,    2    is known in the West as Mount Everest. The remeasurement of the peak’s height is a part of China’s latest large-scale comprehensive    3    (science) survey of Qomolangma, and the 1st Gendetic Surveying Brigade under the Ministry of Natural Resources and the China Mountaineering Team are the parties carrying out the project    4    (collective).

Preparation of the project    5    (launch) in early March, with 53 surveyors from the 1st Geodetic Surveying Brigade getting    6    ( station) near Qomolangma to carry out adaptive climbing and training in other technical    7    (skill), and they are going to the survey on the summit of the mountain.

    8    (ensure) the accuracy of the measurement, and-to work it in    9    more effective way, experts were invited to assist in the technical design and planning of the project from the beginning. Known as the "Vegas of China”,Macao, while filled with luxury and world-class entertainment, also    1    (offer) many landmarks that define the city's unique and fascinating history. The first episode of "Landmarks of Macao” takes you to arguably Macao's most famous landmark-the Ruins of St. Paul's,    2    both the city's Chinese tradition and the Portuguese culture have been greatly preserved.

Lake Hillier is a saltwater lake on the edge of Middle Island, a large island off the south coast of Western Australia. It is pink in color, due     1     a plant that causes the salt     2    ( produce) a red color. There' s a long strip of land     3     separates the lake from the ocean. It was first written about in 1802, when Matthew Flinders hiked one of the island’ s highest     4    ( mountain). He named the lake after William Hillier, an     5     (explore) who had previously visited Middle Island. In 1889, Edward Andrews moved to the island with his two sons. They began to mine the lake for salt, and soon other miners came. Even though the lake contains a lot of salt, it is still safe to swim in.

Located at the foot of the southwest side of Mount Huang, Hongcun Village is one of the     1    (represent ) ancient villages in the southern part of Anhui Province, China. Having at least 140 sections open to visitors, Huangshan Mountain is     1     major tourist destination in China. Huangshan City     2    (change) its name from Tunxi in 1987 in order to promote Huangshan     3    (tour). In 2007, for instance, more than 1.5 million tourists visited the mountain. The foot of the mountain is linked by rail     4     by air to Shanghai, and also is accessible from cities such as Hangzhou and Wuhu.

Since 1990, there were more than 50 kilometers of footpaths     5    (provide) access to scenic areas for visitors and staffers of the facilities. Today there are also cable cars that tourists may use to ride     6    (direct) from the base to one of the summits. Throughout the area there are hotels and guest houses that accommodate overnight visitors, many of     7     hike up the mountains, spend the night at one of the peaks     8    (view) the sunrise, and then go down by a     9    (difference) route the next day. The Truth about Whisky

Whisky is probably     1     most famous product of Scotland. Whisky making provides work     2     several thousand people in the Scottish Highlands and islands, and whisky is Scotland's biggest goods     3     (sell) to every corner of the world.
