文章大意:这是一篇记叙文,文章主要讲述了作者一家在曼谷旅游时遇到一位好心的司机的故事。

1 . After my family got comfortably settled in Hotel Ramada in Bangkok, we started exploring the city. After endless hours of shopping, it was finally time to go back.

This was when the trouble started. We forgot there are two Ramada hotels in the opposite directions. Absolutely unaware of this, we started searching for the way back. Google maps suggested us the shortest route, which was just 20 minutes away by walk.     1

Bangkok felt different after sunset. Walking along the heavily-crowded roads with the dark-red sky felt beautiful. Lost in our talk, we didn’t realize that we passed onto the quieter part of the town.

2     It was closed for redecoration. Unluckily, nobody around us then spoke English. Worse still, we stepped in a local tuk-tuk (三轮车), which took us to an unknown area for an enormous pay. We had no clue where we were, our mobile phones nearly out of power.

3     He was a taxi driver. Recounting the day’s events proved to be a great conversation starter. We ended up talking through the way. He was so kind as to offer to drive us around for the rest of our stay.     4     For the next four days, from floating markets to the temples of Wat Pho, our trip wouldn’t have been so trouble-free without him.

Sometimes when things don’t go according to plan, I think about the stranger we met on the streets and how a tiny mistake on our part led to unexpected results.     5

A.That was when our hero arrived.
B.Our thankfulness was beyond description.
C.We reached a completely different Hotel Ramada.
D.We set off into the city with little research on transport.
E.We decided not to waste our money but our time instead.
F.He then reminded us that our hotel was just a few blocks away
G.The trip rings as a reminder that every cloud has a silver lining.

China has a unique and time-honored architectural tradition, dating back to the Zhou Dynasty. Since ancient times, several types of architecture have been     1    (traditional) built by the Chinese. Each of these kinds of construction has different features.

The builders considered     5    important to cover wooden buildings with     6    (overhang) roofs. This was to protect the building from weathering since wood got damaged much     7    (fast) when it was wet.

Another feature is the south facing orientation (方向). When courtyards were built with taller buildings in the north     8    shorter walls facing east and west in the south, it allowed the maximum amount of sunlight     9     (warm) the building during the winter months. This was     10     the door and windows of the main building faced southwards and opened over the inner courtyard.

“Museum of the World” Travel Plan

Here’s the travel plan for some of the more unusual museums on our “Museum of the World” tour. I’ll send you the full itinerary (行程) next week. The Museum of Bad Art (MOBA) (Boston, USA) shows what it describes as “art too bad to be ignored”. The museum hopes to bring the worst of art to the widest possible audience. As part of the visit, we’ll be shown some truly awful portraits, landscapes and sculptures.

The Devil’s Rope Museum (in Mclean, Texas) and The Kansas Barbed Wire Museum (in Lacrosse, Kansas) both claim to have the best barbed (有刺的) wire collections, telling the story of the wire’s role in the development of America. We’ll be visiting both of these.

The Washington Banana Museum (Auburn, Washington, USA) contains 4,000 objects related to the history of what the museum describes as “the world’s most perfect fruit.” During a guided tour around the museum, we’ll learn all sorts of interesting things, such as the fact that bananas were introduced to the USA in 1878 in the same exhibition as Alexander Graham Bell’s telephone, and that banana is now the US’s number-one selling fruit.

The Hair Museum (Avanos, Turkey) is located in a cave in Cappadocia, in Central Anatolia. It contains 16,000 samples of people’s hair. You’ll be offered a chance to add your own hair to the collection. Later in the year, the museum manager selects 10 donors to attend a pottery workshop.
