3 . Dürer’s Journeys

The first major UK exhibition of German Renaissance artist Albrecht Dürer in nearly 20 years. Through paintings, drawings and letters, this exhibition follows his travels across Europe, bringing to life the artist himself, and the people and places he visited.

‘Dürer’s Journeys’ will bring together loans from museums and private collections across the world, including the artist’s ‘Madonna and Child’.

Artemisia

Time: 4 April 2023-26 July 2023       Location: Sainsbury Wing

In 17th-century Europe when women artists were not easily accepted, Artemisia was exceptional (非凡的). She challenged traditions and became a successful artist and one of the greatest storytellers of her time.

In this exhibition of her work in the UK, see her best-known paintings including ‘Judith beheading Holofernes’, as well as herself portraits (肖像) and recently discovered personal letters.

Impressionist Decorations

Time: 11 September 2022-9 January 2023       Location: Sainsbury Wing

From the 1860s to the 1920s, the Impressionists tried to bring the outdoors inside, turning landscapes and scenes of modern life into paintings and decorated objects for the home.

Discover the Impressionists’ decorative works through over eighty paintings and panels by leading figures including: Manet, Monet and Renoir.

The Credit Suisse Exhibition: Raphael

Time: Opening spring 2023       Location: North Galleries

In the year that marks the 500th anniversary of Raphael’s death, we present one of the first-ever exhibitions to explore his complete career.

The exhibition looks at his celebrated paintings and drawings as well as his work in architecture, poetry, and design for sculpture.

With loans from the Hermitage, the Louvre, etc, this is an opportunity to see the width of Raphael’s skill and creativity.

6 . Some of the Most Famous Modern Architectures

Barcelona Pavilion (Barcelona, Spain, 1929)

A cantilevered (悬臂式的) roof is the design of Barcelona Pavilion. Although it was quite small, the architect did his best to use luxurious materials. One of the famous pieces of furniture, specially created for the building, is the Barcelona chair.

Villa Dirickz (Brussels, Belgium, 1933)

Villa Dirickz has eye- catching blocky features, glass works and white concrete surrounded by greenery. The villa is equipped with advanced facilities like a cinema. It was ignored till a developer bought it in 2007 and devoted all possible resources to its repairs.

Isokon Building (London, UK, 1934)

The building, consisting of 32 apartments, is still in use today. It also includes staff rooms and a large garage. The apartments have a shared kitchen for people to prepare food freely. A shared gallery is built in the garage to tell people about the history of the building.

Neue National Galerie (Berlin, Germany, 1968)

The museum hosts an art collection that dates back to the early years of the 20th century. Its typical modernist design includes a cantilevered roof and flat appearances. The building is surrounded by a sculptured landscape.

7 . From grand museum openings to music, art and theatre, these are the coolest new things happening anywhere this year.

This townhouse, where the controversial French singer Serge Gainsbourg spent the last 20 years of his life, has been completely closed off to the public since Gainsbourg's death in 1991, but next spring it'll finally open as a museum. The main attraction will be Serge's famously odd living area, with its huge collection of sculptures.

Just 90 minutes by train from Copenhagen, Odense is best known as the birthplace of Christian Andersen, and it's now home to the new HCA Museum. With its biographical exhibits and inanimate projects that come alive, this thoroughly fun museum would have delighted the “Little Mermaid” and “Snow Queen” author himself.

When it finally opens in November 2022, the Grand Egypt Museum will be the biggest museum in the world for a single civilization. Costing $1 billion, this museum will be about the size of the Louvre in Paris. Most importantly, this will be the first time that all 5,000 pieces of King Tut's treasure will be displayed in the same place.

Serbia's second-largest city will wear the crown of European Capital of Culture for the year. Ever fancied checking out of an exhibition in an abandoned pasta factory? The Mlin Cultural Station awaits. Novi Sad's unique architecture and history have long made it a major destination.

9 . My parents, siblings and I took our first camping trip to the Lake Houston Wilderness Park recently.

We had finished putting up the ________ when it suddenly started to rain. Luckily, we had ________ our tent on a high flat ground where water could not pour in. Mom got some snacks and drinks ready for us while we played games and ________ about our daily life, which made wet-weather camping fun. How ________ it was camping under the sound of the rain! We were gathered around in the center of ________ and it was a nice feeling. Even with the rain, I had never been so ________.

The rain died down before dark and the sky turned clear. Soon, Mom ________ a big meal over the fire for the family. I sensed that a hot meal and good ________ would warm us right up. While we ate together, Dad ________ at the stars and told us about his childhood. As we laughed and ________ on our days, the stars shone like diamonds at night.

The following day, we had a good time ________ the rocky trails around our campsite. ________ hiking in the forest, we had a lovely late afternoon boating. It was amazing to see the ________ changing rays of the sunset behind the pine trees. That evening we packed up our ________ and headed home.

10 . There are a lot of museums in London. Of course, there are world-famous names like the British Museum and Natural History Museum. But then there are many tiny plain peculiar museums in every corner of the city.

18 Stafford Terrace

The Kensington address provides a chance to see a late-Victorian, middle-class home that has survived largely unchanged. The house was passed on from one generation of the family to the next and almost all the original decoration remains unchanged. The house closes during summer for maintenance.

Brunel Museum

An exhibition celebrates the Thames Tunnel as the birthplace of the tube system, and the Great Eastern steamship as the first modern ocean liner. The site is a Scheduled Ancient Monument and International Landmark Site above the oldest tunnel in the Underground, which tells the story of the men who worked in the dark, dodging flames and raw sewage every day.

The Cinema Museum

This collection of artifacts, memorabilia and equipment telling the history of cinema from the 1890s to the present is open by tour (advance booking required) while the museum raises funds to secure its future. Among the displays are cinema seats and signs, stills and posters, projectors and other machinery.

Dennis Severs’ House

Dennis Severs’ House is a time capsule attraction in which visitors are immersed in a unique form of theatre. The tour takes you through the cellar, kitchen, dining room, smoking room and upstairs to the bedrooms. It feels as though the inhabitants had deserted the rooms only moments before. The Dennis Severs House tour is unsuitable for children as tours are conducted in silence.
