In Sarek National Park, I wake up to the sound of the wind buffeting the cloth of my tent.     1     (stand) at the edge of the mountain, I find     2     (branch)of the Rapa River flowing through the valley below. Sarek’s mountains used to     3     (cover) by vast sheets of ice. Around 9,000 years ago, this ice     4     (melt), with about 100 glaciers     5     (leave) behind. For hundreds of years, the Sami lived off reindeer. With reindeer on the move, the Sami would pick     7     their tents and accompany them. But every spring, a small number of Sami still follow their reindeer into the valleys of Sarek,     9     they live in tents and enjoy their traditions. It’s really nice to see a lot of Tibetan antelopes (藏羚羊) on the green grass. However,     1     (they) population dropped by more than 50% during the 1980s and 1990s. To make profits, some people were shooting antelopes. The habitats     2     the beautiful animals lived were becoming smaller as new roads and railways     3     (build).

In order to save this species from extinction, the Chinese government placed it under     4     (nation) protection. Many volunteers watched over the antelopes day and night to keep them safe from attacks. Bridges and gates were added to let the antelopes move     5     (easy) and keep them from     6     (car) and trains.

Gradually, the antelope population has recovered and     7     June 2015, the Tibetan antelope was removed from     8     endangered species list. The government, however, does not intend to stop the protection programmes, since the threats to the Tibetan antelopes have not yet disappeared.

Scientists who study the evolution(进化)of language say wild chimpanzees(黑猩猩)have a more complex communication system than past research has shown. The researchers say the animal uses more than ten kinds of calls,     1     can be combined into hundreds of different orders.

Many people think that pollution cannot     3     (stop) if we want the country to develop. But that is not true. We can cut back on     4     (danger) and dirty waste from factories. Although a factory produces a large quantity of goods, it does not mean that it has to pump a lot of pollution into the environment. Flash floods hit Longcaogou of Pengzhou, Southwest China’s Sichuan Province on Saturday. Seven people     1     (kill) and eight others slightly injured. Local authorities announced on Sunday, noting that some tourists     2     were camping in the dried-up river were trapped in the flood after failing     3     (escape) in time.
