1 . Younger students experience school bullying more frequently than older ones, and male students are bullied more than their female students, a research found.

It also found that nearly half of students had been intentionally hit or knocked down by classmates. About 6 percent said they are bullied on campus every day. The research also found that students from ordinary schools experienced more bullying than the ones from key schools, and children from poor families are more likely to be bullied at school.

Being bullied can have a negative effect on a child’s personal development and academic performance, according to Zhou Jinyan, a researcher who led the study at Beijing Normal University. “Children being bullied will find it hard to trust others,” Zhou said. “They may often feel anxiety, anger, hatred or depression. These emotions will further destroy their ability to control their own life.”

In recent years, bullying on Chinese campuses has been frequently reported and has attracted widespread attention and concern. The most recent incident to arouse heated discussions took place in December at Beijing’s Zhongguancun No. 2 Primary School. A fourth-grade student was bullied and laughed at by classmates, causing him acute stress disorder.

The Supreme People’s Procuratorate received about 1,900 cases related to school bullying in 2016. Meanwhile, there was a notable increase in bullying reports including middle school students from 14 to 18 years old.

Zhou came up with some ways to solve the problem, including improving communication between teachers, parents and students and trying to develop more harmonious relationships among children. She said it was strongly suggested that parents try to be involved in their children’s educational experience, as their presence and companionship have proved effective in reducing bullying and its negative effects.

A.A 17-year-old boy from a rich familyB.A 10-year-old boy from a poor family

2. Being bullied will cause students to go through the following EXCEPT________.
A.a lack of trust in other peopleB.a drop in academic performance
C.a lack of confidence in themselvesD.a drop in the sense of anger
3. We can learn from the text that________.
A.bullying on campus has been reduced in recent years
B.students who enjoy parents’ companionship will be bullying-free
C.parents and schools should take further action against bullying at school
D.bullying at school usually has little effect on students when they grow up
4. The passage is likely to appear in ________.
A.a science reportB.an advertisement
C.a novelD.a news report

2 . The end of a semester can be a challenging time for students. Kids from elementary school through high school are already stressed after more than a year of C0VID-19 disrupted learning. Pressing through the last few weeks of a semester can be discouraging, especially for older students with demanding final projects and exams.

“Parents’ fears about their kids are so often not about the present but the future — a fear that kids who are struggling will get stuck there. But kids rarely stay stuck, in part because they too want their lives to work out,” says Ned Johnson, a test preparation expert. When children show signs of stress, parents should respond by focusing on mental health, not achievement or grades.

Families can create a sense of safety for children by establishing routines for the day and week, especially those that emphasize connection, such as family dinnertime and a bedtime chat. Parents should meet kids with empathy and listening, instead of trying to solve their problems. For example, we can normalize family conversation about the ups and downs of the day. As Madeline Levine, a psychologist, put it: let your children “borrow your calm”.

In addition, peer support programs can also play an important role in teaching skills for stress management and wellness. “Teens will talk to other teens, especially when they feel they are in a brave space built on trust,” Katie Hurley, a psychotherapist says.

Some children may arrive at the finish line exhausted and needing sleep. Or perhaps they are eager to celebrate the holidays with all the usual fanfare. Honor your child’s wishes and plan to create the break that fits your family’s needs. McKenna Reitz, a mom from Toledo, Ohio, plans for her daughters Karsen, 9, and Maddox, 6, to enjoy time off with family and friends. Her holiday plan apparently reflects that. “It is the most important thing they need right now,” she says. “Our children need to know that they are not alone.”

1. What can we learn from Paragraph 2?
A.Children are struggling in study in the present situation.
B.Children’s focusing on grades makes them stay stuck in learning.
C.Parents stay stuck in making their children live to work out.
D.Parents’ fear about children getting stuck in study is unnecessary.
2. Why does the author mention Madeline Levine?
A.To ask parents to stay calm before their kids.
B.To show the necessity of talking to kids before tests.
C.To make parents let go of their kids during COVID-19.
D.To stress the importance of the help from the experts.
3. What does “that” in Paragraph 5 refer to?
A.Staying with kids in holidays.B.Respecting the needs of kids.
C.Helping kids celebrate holidays.D.Keeping exhausted kids happy.
4. What does the author want to show?
A.Parents should help kids to prepare their tests.
B.Parents should keep a closer eyes on kids study.
C.Parents should connect their kids more with nature.
D.Parents should let kids take a break from school stress.

3 . The well-known Spanish painter Pablo Picasso once said, “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he/ she grows up.”

This is both encouraging and discouraging. The fact that we were all born to be artists is surely exciting. But the reality has proven that remaining to be an artist is a task that many of us have failed. Fortunately, some people have seen the problem and want to solve it. Western educators have suggested that we introduce the concept of “STEAM” instead of “STEM”—traditional “core majors including science, technology, engineering and math—since the “A”, which stands for “art”, is just important as well. And so did the China’s Ministry of Education. It required colleges and universities to provide more art-related courses for students. They need to earn a certain number of art credits (学分) in order to graduate.

These efforts came after many scientific studies had found that art education helps students develop self-confidence and teamwork skills, as well as habits of mind such as problem solving and critical thinking.

It’s true that none of these skills is directly connected with jobs. But as former US ballet dancer Damian Woetzel told The Atlantic, the purpose of art is “to give kids the tools to become adults who are creative, adaptable and expressive— capable of having their eyes and ears and senses alive. And we can now see how we lost track of our born “artist self” on our way to growing up: we failed to keep our capabilities to see, hear and feel, and became blind, deaf and insensitive adults.

Hopefully, art education can help turn things around.

1. What’s the purpose of the first paragraph?
A.To introduce a famous painter.B.To summarize the whole passage.
C.To inspire us to be artists.D.To lead in the topic.
2. According to the passage, why should “STEAM” be introduced?
A.Art is as equally important as “core majors”.
B.Western education is more useful.
C.Traditional “core majors” are out of date.
D.All of us should learn art in college.
3. The passage mainly tells us ________.
A.every child is an artist.B.bringing art to life is essential.
C.life is full of art.D.artists are talented

4 . British education provides a reliable pathway to the best universities in the world, but what really defines British education?

At its simplest, it can be seen as a curriculum (课程) that is common to most schools in England and Wales.    1     The National Curriculum leads to GCSE (at age 16) and A level examinations(at age 18). These are qualifications recognized by universities and employers around the world.

2     Teachers in the UK tend to emphasize learning to think and to work things out for oneself over learning facts. Delivering interesting lessons is seen as an important part of the teacher’s role, based on the precondition that we learn much better when we feel motivated.

British education is also associated with activities that take place beyond the classroom. There’re various organized games, outdoor and extra course activities.    3

Education in the UK is heavily infused (灌输) with liberal ideas and personal responsibility.    4     The curriculum references not only British culture but also many other cultures from around the world. Thoughtfulness and patience with others win high praise.

British education is forward-looking and in constant evolution.    5     New methods often come into practice while the out-dated and hard disciplines have fade into history, leaving behind softer traditions and customs.

5 . Education has always been a hot topic among parents as it is directly related to the. future of their children.     1     Many of them try to offer their children the best environment.

Competition between parents over children’s education may start from the kind of animated series children watch. For some parents, watching foreign animated shows is better than watching domestic ones.     2     However, this does not mean those watching foreign shows are superior to those watching domestic ones.

Domestic shows have their own advantages. They can help children learn traditional Chinese culture and history.       3     This show was based on one of the four great classical novels of Chinese literature. By watching this show, children can learn more about the history of the Tang Dynasty and the development of Buddhist culture in China. Foreign shows can open a window for children to gain a better understanding of the outside world. So children ought to be encouraged to watch both as long as the content of the show is beneficial.

4     For example, children should be encouraged to read both folk tales from China and foreign countries. However, once parents hold views of superiority, the views can more or less leave an influence on their children. Innocent children, influenced by their parents, slowly hold the views hat watching foreign shows is superior to watching domestic shows.     5     Once it is formed in children’s minds, parents’ education can’t be regarded as successful.

A.Take Journey to the West for example.
B.This can also be applied to other things.
C.A case in point can help understand this.
D.It’s by no means an easy task to form a sense of superiority.
E.Such a sense of superiority may make them look down upon others.
F.By watching the former, children can learn English at the same time.
G.How to educate children can be a sweet but painstaking task for parents.

6 . The average American family will spend somewhere around $637 on back-to-school supplies for each elementary school child this year and twice that for a high school student. Add to that the fact that both children and parents feel anxious about the transition (过渡) of going back to school at the end of summer. For this, Jermaine Smith of Cleveland and four other barbers decided to cut hair for about 40 kids and teens for free last Saturday.

In fact, Smith has been giving back to the community in other ways long before this weekend. He cuts hair by day, but in the evenings, after bringing his daughter home from school, he goes to work as a police officer.

“A lot of parents bring their kids to me for haircuts because I’m a police officer. They trust me because they think that I teach kids to do the right things in the barber shop. I always tell young men that they always get to stay neat and attractive, and people tend to treat them with respect,” Smith says. “When you get your hair cut, you look good and feel good.”

Maybe a service that would only cost $15 regularly seems like just a drop in the bucket, but child and teen psychologist Dr. Barbara Greenberg sees this as more than just a one-time free service. Other free haircut and school supply events have appeared unexpectedly all across the country this month, as organizers have recognized how much parents can use this extra help.

Greenberg says, “One of the ways to make a transition easier is to make it fun and introduce something new or unusual, so the whole idea of getting a haircut makes kids feel special and important.” The haircuts were just part of the Start School on the Right Foot event, which also handed out about 50 backpacks full of school supplies.

1. Why did Jermaine Smith and other barbers cut hair for kids?
A.To improve the community service.
B.To prepare children for the competition.
C.To help children and parents reduce anxiety.
D.To provide back-to-school supplies for children.
2. Which of the following can best describe Jermaine Smith?
A.Honest and generous.B.Creative and friendly.
C.Grateful and thoughtful.D.Reliable and responsible.
3. What does Jermaine Smith want young people to do?
A.Form a healthy lifestyle.B.Treat people with respect.
C.Get along well with others.D.Leave a good impression on people.
4. What is Dr. Barbara Greenberg glad to see?
A.More parents are willing to work together.
B.More people take action to help kids in school.
C.People amuse the little kids in school regularly.
D.People try to make kids feel special and important.

7 . Parents can begin good organization (条理) habits with preschool-age kids, Experts recommend asking them to do small, simple actions on a regular basis with the help of parents. Maybe they open their bags and bring their lunch bag to the kitchen, or take their shoes off at the door and put them in a nearby closet. These won’t save parents much time but they will help develop good habits.

When kids enter primary school, they should be ready for more responsibility. This is the time to teach them about daily routines, and help them take control over theirs. Parents and children might sit down together and make a list of everything that needs to be done to get out of the house in the morning, or get ready for bed at night. Together, parents should figure out how long each activity takes, and when the best time to do them is. Some of the kids might want to get their bags ready and pick out their clothes the night before.

It’s also wise to create a firm schedule for homework. When do kids do their homework? How long do they need? Where do they do it? Where will the homework go once it is done? Figure them out and stick to the schedule as much as possible.

Parents should print up these task lists and help kids finish them step by step. Kids might even check them off each morning or evening. Also, make sure there are clocks in the rooms in which these tasks will take place. Time management is an important part of learning organization, but it can’t be done if kids don’t know what time it is.

Organization gives kids the chance to make it possible to focus on a task and complete it. Kids tend to be more motivated to learn organization skills if they see organization as a challenge to overcome, rather than a fault to repair.

1. Why are kids advised to do small and simple actions?
A.To save parents time.
B.To join a school organization.
C.To help kids form good habits.
D.To form a good relationship with others.
2. What should parents do to help kids develop organization skills?
A.Offer some suggestions only.
B.Finish the daily tasks for kids.
C.Assist kids in finishing the daily tasks.
D.Let the kid finish the daily tasks alone.
3. What does the author think of organization for kids?
A.It is a fault to repair.B.It is nothing special.
C.It is easy to achieve.D.It is a helpful skill.

8 . Today's world is not an easy adjustment for young adults. Key skill set for success is persistence (毅力), a characteristic that researchers say is heavily influenced by fathers. Researchers from Brigham Young University discovered that fathers are in a unique position to help their adolescent children learn persistence.

BYU professors Laura Padilla-Walker and Randal Day arrived at these findings after following 325 American families over several years. And over time, the persistence gained through fathers led to higher achievement in school.

"There are relatively few studies that stress the unique role of fathers,"Padilla-Walker said. "This research also helps to prove that characteristics such as persistence-which can be taught-are key to a child's life success.”

Researchers determined that dads need to practice an "authoritative" parenting style. Authoritative parenting is not authoritarian:rigid, demanding or controlling. Rather,an authoritative parenting style includes some of the following characteristics:children feel warmth and love from their father;responsibility and the reasons behind rules are stressed children are given an appropriate level of autonomy(自主权).

In the study, about 52 percent of the dads exhibited above-average levels of authoritative parenting. A key finding is that over time, children raised by an authoritative father were significantly more likely to develop persistence, which leads to better outcomes in school.

This particular study examined 11 to 14-year-olds living in two-parent homes. Yet the researchers suggest that single parents still may play a role in teaching the benefits of persistence, which is an avenue of future research.

1. What is special about the BYU professors' study?
A.It centered on fathers' role in parenting.
B.It was based on a number of large families.
C.It analyzed different kinds of parenting styles.
D.It aimed to improve kids' achievement in school.
2. What would an authoritative father do when raising his children?
A.Ignore their demands.B.Make decisions for them.
C.Control their behaviors.D.Explain the rules to them.
3. Which group can be a focus of future studies according to the researchers?
A.Single parents.
B.Children aged from 11 to 14.
C.Authoritarian fathers.
D.Mothers in two-parent homes.
4. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A.Three Characteristics of Authoritative Fathers.
B.Key Skills for Young Adults to Succeed in Future.
C.Children Tend to Learn Determination from Father.
D.Family Relationship Influences School Performance.

9 . I totally relate to the need many parents have in wanting their children to be special, unique, talented, and amazing. I think my child is all of those things too. Of course I do. But do we really need to be measuring and comparing the academic achievements of kids as young as 3, 4, and 5 years old?

These days, I often find it difficult to have a casual conservation with other parents of children who are only in preschool without being told. about how their kid is phenomenally (显著地)"advanced” in writing or that they're already reading at a 2nd-grade level.

I mean, obviously that's great news if you've been led to believe your child possesses a remarkable talent because they're catching on well in preschool. However. I can't help but notice that the height of parental bragging (夸耀)has reached too high both in real life and on social media.

I realize I'm probably pessimistic, but I'm afraid that we're placing our children on a ridiculously steep pedestal (基座)at too young of an age and we're really just giving our children a higher place to eventually fall from.

The ever increasing loads of homework being sent home in preschool and kindergarten seem like overkill as well. The most important skill young kids in preschool and kindergarten should be learning are social skills, in my opinion.

So, while I think it's great that your child may be very "advanced” for their age, I sincerely hope your child is happy, well-adjusted, surrounded by kind friends, and praised for so much more than how quickly they can read or write.

1. What does the author realize when she's talking with other parents of children in preschool?
A.They're very proud of their parenting.
B.They like showing off their children's academic achievements.
C.They spend a lot of time teaching their children to write.
D.They like comparing their children with themselves.
2. Paragraph 4 mainly shows that the author is ________.
A.ambiguousB.jealousC.optimisticD.concerned
3. Which of the following would the author agree with?
A.Parents shouldn't want their children to be unique.
B.It’s very important that kids in preschool learn writing.
C.Kids in preschool should be mainly taught social skills.
D.Preschool education will hardly affect kids in the long run.
4. What would be the best title for the text?
A.Stop wasting your kid's talents
B.Stop teaching your kid to read and write
C.Stop telling others your kid is "advanced”
D.Stop scolding your kid for poor academic performance
