In early December, Zhang Guimei was named a national outstanding member of the Communist Party of China for her     1    (contribute) to education in China.

About 20 years ago, while on the way to visit a student’s house, Zhang Guimei, a teacher in Huaping, noticed a girl     2     (sit) on the hillside. The girl, 13, told Zhang she was about to get married. It was decided by her parents. “But I want to go to school,” the girl said. Zhang went to her house and tried to persuade her parents to let the girl return to school and promised to pay for the school fees     3     (her). However, they didn’t agree.

From then on, Zhang dreamed     4     building a free high school for girls. After years of trying to raise money,     5     (eventual) , Huaping High School for Girls, a free public high school, was founded at the foot of the Shizi Mountain in Huaping,     6     Zhang is the headmaster.

Her efforts paid off. Since 2008, more than 1,800 students     7     (enter) college, which is considered a “miracle (奇迹)” in that far area.

Zhang plays     8     active part in local education. It is reported     9     she was given the honor at the country’s “role model for teachers” in February, 2021. Her     10     (move) stories encourage thousands of people.

2 . “Don’t worry. Those are just age spots (老年斑),” the doctor said. “Are you _________ that these are age spots?” I questioned, pointing to the dark spots on my hands. Angie, the doctor, smiled warmly and _________, “I’m 100% sure.”

I let out a scream of _________. “You’ve no idea how long I’ve waited for these to _________” I said. Angie looked slightly _________, and I realized there was no possible way I could explain my excitement. What Angie didn’t know was that I shouldn’t have _________ to see age spots! At age forty, there was not much hope that I would live long enough to see any signs of _________. I was in the battle of my life—fighting lung cancer.

After the five-year mark of being cancer free, I started to have hope. When I got my first white hair, I quickly pointed to my husband, “look, honey, a white hair.”

_________ I was taking a trip down the memory path, Angie _________ , “Here’s the fade cream (增白霜) that you can __________ to your hands twice a week before going to bed”. And then she mentioned another __________ , “of course, you can always have the spots removed with lasers (激光).”

“Remove them?” I questioned. “ __________ would anyone want to do that?” Angie stared at me, not understanding the meaning of those words, while I explained, “I’d like to __________ them.” As I walked out of the hospital, I was __________ that I had such wonderful age spots!

Later that year, I celebrated two milestone (里程碑)—my sixteenth birthday and twenty years of being ________ from cancer. I’m excited to be growing older with white hairs, wrinkles (皱纹) and now age spots. And I can see the beauty in all of them!
