2 . A man recently helped a woman, who had been knocked down by a car in Taizhou, Jiangu province, reach a hospital. But before doing so, he took a photograph of the scene with the woman to avoid being charged with knocking her down. Several similar cases were reported across the country during the Spring Festival, leaving people with mixed feelings, says Cao Pengcheng in an article in People's Daily.
Altruism(利他主义) is part of Chinese culture, and there is no lack of good Samaritans(乐善好施者) in the country. But recently, says Cao, some good Samaritans were blackmailed by the people who they helped. It made altruism a tough issue.
Cao says that it is a good thing for people to become more business-minded.but it is one thing to do as cost-benefit analysis (分析) in business, and quite another to measure whether a person in need is worth helping. I people always make such materialistic calculation(物质计算),they will further lower social and moral (道德) standards.
Fortunately, says Cao,there are still people like the man in Taizhou who deepen our belief in altruism and kindheartedness by continuing to help others, despite knowing that the existing system and rules in the county do not offer enough protection for good Samaritans.

3 . Su Shan is a delicacy made with milk and cream that looks like shaved ice (刨冰). Poet Wang Lingran from the Tang Dynasty (618-907) described how people made and enjoyed Su Shan in his poem Ode to Su He Shan. According to the text, sugar was added to Su Shan that was shaped into many forms. Sometimes, Su Shan was decorated with flowers and leaves to make it more beautiful.
“It is neither solid (固态的), nor watery and disappears once it touches teeth,” the poet wrote. The Su Shan in his poem was thought by many experts to be an early form of ice cream. However, only the nobles (贵族) were lucky enough to have large iceboxes to create it in summer.
Although there were no fridges in ancient times, iceboxes to store ice cubes in summer had become very common in rich families by the Tang Dynasty. At that time, people either had ice water or small pieces of shaved ice.
People could easily buy iced drinks on the street during the Song Dynasty (960-1279).As a community service, some rich people even provided free ice water and medicine on the street for free. Ice water sold during the Song Dynasty was often added to mung beans (绿豆) to help prevent heat stroke (中暑).

6 . The Internet is an amazing tool, especially for children who want to learn. But it also has dark side. Parents have to ask themselves, “When is the right time to let my child go online?”
This is a much bigger problem than it used to be. Now we live in a time when a family could have more than one computer. It is common for children to have their own computers or laptops. Some also have phones and tablets (平板电脑).
Parents do have difficulty in acting correctly. On the one hand, it would be foolish to keep children from the Internet as they can learn a lot from it. But on the other hand, parents shouldn’t let children do whatever they like on the Internet. The problem is that everybody is busy nowadays, and this is certainly true for parents. How many parents have the time to sit don with their kids when they do their homework online? Some do, but more are just not able to.
So at what age should children be allowed to use the Internet? According to a survey, the average age when parents allow their children to go online independently is about eight years old.
As a nonparent (无子女者),I do find it hard to agree. I always believe that education is the key to success. However, I think children as young as eight may face a lot of dangers when they use the Internet without parents being around. So I think schools and parents have the responsibility to teach children not only how to use the Internet, but also how to do it safely.

9 . You start by running around the school track three times to warm up. This is followed by exercises or long jump for the girls and football or basketball for the boys. That is an average 45 -minute PE class— but do you really enjoy it?
For students at the Second High School Attached to Beijing Normal University, sports classes have experienced a welcome change. Senior 2 students now learn the traditional Chinese martial art of sword-fighting (中国剑术), making PE the most popular lesson on the timetable. “The classes used to be boring as we just did the same things again and again,” said Xiao Tong. “But now PE classes are such fun. Sword-fighting is so cool.” His classmate Wei Jie agrees. “As well as being fun, we learn about traditional Chinese culture,” she said. The usual morning exercises performed to music on the school playground have been replaced by kicking and punching practice (搏击操) to a pop music by Zheng Xiuwen. “We didn't pay much attention when we heard the old music,” Xiao explained, “But when Zheng's music is played, we get excited.” Mao Min, the PE teacher who introduced the changes, is pleased that the students now enjoy sports lessons more. “The classes encourage healthy lifestyles and I am always looking for creative ways to keep the students active,” he said. Schools offer activities according to what sports facilities (设备) they have. For example, students at the Experimental High School Attached to Beijing Normal University can choose to learn swimming, taekwondo (跆拳道) or volleyball. “I take my volleyball very seriously so I keep fit by playing it,” said Senior 2 student Zhang Zheng. “Students only try hard in sports that interest them.”

10 . Teen anger takes many forms. What we can see is the expression of it — the behavior. Teenagers will continue their behavior, until they decide to find out the roots (根源) of their anger, which is usually caused by something going on in a teen’s life.
Teen anger can be a frightening feeling, which can destroy lives and relationships, hurt others, affect (影响) health, and cloud futures. But there is a positive aspect, as it can show that a problem exists and can help us face our issues.
Teenager face a lot of emotional (情感的) issues during this period of development. They’re faced with doubts of identity, relationships, and independence. The relationship between teens and their parents is also changing as teens become more and more independent. This can bring about anger for both parents and teens.
So what can teens and parents do? Listen to your teen and focus on feelings. Try to understand the situation from his or her opinion. Blaming (责备) only builds up more walls and ends all communication. Tell them how you feel, stick to facts, and deal with the present moment. Show that you care and show your love. Remember that anger is the feeling and behavior is the choice. Unless we work to change our own behavior, we cannot help another change their behavior.
