文章大意:这是一篇新闻报道。文章主要介绍了西班牙Galdakao市某社区推出的避免食物浪费的方法——Community Fridge。

1 . Food waste is a growing problem throughout the world; on the one hand, we’ve got so many people starving, but on the other hand, in places like Western Europe or the US, people are wasting almost 50% of what they eat. It seems reasonable to find ways to send the excess food to the places where it’s most needed, but that doesn’t happen nearly as much as it should. With that in mind, people in Galdakao, Spain, took action.

They launched what they call the Community Fridge—a regular white fridge placed in the middle of the town where anyone can drop food or leftovers and anyone can come in and take it. This fridge has already saved 300 kg of food in just two months. The service is not a charity — anyone can come and just take whatever food they want.

Of course, there are a few regulations though—you can’t donate raw fish, meat or eggs, for health reasons. Also, all the food has to be within its expiration date and anything homemade should have a label with the ingredients. These are reasonable rules, and so far, the program seems to be enjoying success. Other Spanish cities have expressed interest in adopting their own Community Fridge.

This is not the first time this kind of idea has been put forward. A man in the Saudi city of Hail has also put a fridge outside his house and called on neighbors to fill it with food for the needy.

The idea doesn’t work in the US, and it seems like some people would rather throw food away than risk sharing it with others, but I certainly think this idea is worth spreading. Sure, you need someone to check the contents of the fridge and take out the food that goes bad, but for 150 kg of food per month, with one fridge, I think that’s worth it.

1. The first paragraph is meant to __________.
A.give the conclusion
B.introduce the topic
C.satisfy readers’ curiosity
D.describe a social fact
2. What can we learn about the Community Fridge from the article?
A.It is the first time such an idea has been put forward.
B.It is intended for the homeless.
C.It has some food security problems.
D.It has enjoyed success since it started.
3. What is the author’s attitude towards the Community Fridge?
A.Opposed.B.Supportive.C.Doubtful.D.Unconcerned.
4. What may be the best title for the text?
A.The Starving and Food Waste
B.Community Fridge to Deal with Food Waste
C.Community Fridge and Food Security
D.Community Fridge to Be Adopted in the US

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要说明了不应该道歉的情况。

2 . Every relationship has survived on apologies.     1     Humans are flawed (有瑕疵的) creatures, even though we try to master things and pursue perfection, mistakes are going to occur from time to time. However, don't say sorry for things that have happened if they're not your fault. In fact, there are a lot of things you should never apologize for, For example, don't say sorry for:

2     Everybody has unique traits (特点) in them. Not everybody has the same taste in music or would like to go bungee-jumping. You have your personal opinions, beliefs, thoughts, hobbies, etc. You don't need to apologize for that. If you like heavy metal, so be it. Don't say sorry for being you.

Your past. Your past might contain some mistakes which you aren’t proud of.     3     Feeling sorry will only stop you from moving on. You gained some experience and won’t make that mistake again. This shouldn’t be one of the things you need to apologize for.

Being honest.     4     Honesty is important in every relationship. You are or were being honest to somebody because you care about them. Suppose if your friend doesn’t look good in a particular dress, feel free to be honest with him or her. If he calls you mean or whatever, that means he was not ready to hear the truth.

Taking me time. Let’s all agree that we need some time alone to figure out our life. Or many people prefer to be alone after a long day just to go through their day and think of times they are thankful for.     5

A.Being yourself.
B.Apologizing for what you are.
C.Don’t feel bad about not lying.
D.Always don't say sorry for what makes you happy.
E.You need to let them go, because it’s your life and that was your decision.
F.Sometimes besides listening to people, we really need to relax and listen to our own thoughts.
G.After all, we are humans and take stupid decisions and do dumb things which annoy (使烦恼) the other person.

In our weekly staff meeting, our editor Ashley was not pleased with the quality of our reporting. “Our readership is way down. We need better stories for this Thursday’s school newspaper. Does anybody have any ideas?” she said.

I handed her my article about our basketball team beating Deerfield High School the previous night by one point. “Sports stories are fun,” she said, “but not good enough for the front page. We need something to really get people ‘s attention.”

After our meeting, we left the newsroom together and heard someone screaming, “Perry is missing!” Perry was a big red parrot and had been our school mascot (吉祥物) for ten years. He played an important role in students’ lives, both in and out of class. He had also been a constant presence at school events, inspiring a sense of unity among students.

Everyone gathered around Perry’s empty cage, heartbroken. Suddenly, a student from the crowd came over and showed me a photo. “You’re a reporter for the school paper, right? I happened to take this yesterday,” he said. In the photo was a Deerfield High School basketball player with something large hidden under his shirt around the size of a parrot.

“He must have stolen Perry to get back at us for winning the game!” Ashley cried. We hurried back to the newsroom, agreeing to run the photo on the front page with the headline “Deerfeld Stole Perry.” “This is just the story we need. Everyone will read it,” Ashley said confidently.

After she left, I took a closer look at the photo. The clock in the background read 4:15 pm, but our game against Deerfield hadn’t started until 4:30 pm. Why would the boy have taken Perry before we even played? An uneasy feeling came over me that we might have falsely accused someone.

I went to Perry’s usual caretaker to ask if he knew Perry was missing. ”He’s not missing. He’s retired. He’s ready for some quieter days,“ he said. Learning the truth, I immediately told Ashley and suggested writing a story to say goodbye to Perry.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了人生很短暂,我们要积极面对人生中的变化,学会从改变中获得新的生活体验和人生经验。

6 . Most of the time, we human beings are so unwilling to change that we completely ignore its beauty. I don’t get it, why?    1    I believe change is the most beautiful thing an individual can seek after.

As people connect changes with something beneficial, we all claim to believe in change being good, yet so many of us aggressively oppose it. And why? Because of familiarity.    2

Even for those of us who say we love change, it’s hard to accept and adapt. However, sometimes change can be a frightening thing. There’s no denying that life is unpredictable and more often than not, we’re forced to make a change we didn’t really prepare for or expect. We lose jobs, we lose people, we move to another country or we find ourselves in unfavorable circumstances that we weren’t taught how to handle.    3

Life is full of unavoidable changes. How can you develop personally and expect to stay in the same place?    4    When you start growing, you’ll notice changes in your surroundings. You’ll notice changes in your friends’ group. You’ll notice changes even in your preferences. Nothing stays the same if you want to grow as an individual.

Even though change may be painful and so hard sometimes, it’s still better than the pain of feeling powerless as you watch your dreams pass you by. Don’t be afraid of change. Embrace (拥抱) it with open arms.    5    I genuinely believe that life is too short to stay in the same place or in the same rigid mindset!

A.Not everyone can accompany you.
B.Where there’s growth, there’s change
C.Change can be scary but it can also be beautiful.
D.That’s not the only reasons you embrace changes.
E.Look forward to new experiences and learn from those new stories.
F.These things force you to change what you weren’t ready to change.
G.Sometimes we’re convinced that knowing something well means it’s right.

Most importantly, China will continue to promote the     4    (translate) and publication of the works of Chinese academics and writers in the French language, an effort that it     5    (sustain) for a number of years. This state-led effort slightly corrects the large imbalance in     6     number of translated works: Chinese publishing     7    (company) translate many more books from the French language than their French counterparts do from the Chinese.

Direct and constant exchanges between the artists, writers and thinkers of the two countries are essential for building long-term friendship     8     influence the way the citizens of the two countries appreciate each other’s culture. 9 . Recently, a set of video clips (片段) featuring a man showcasing umbrellas with various creative designs has gone viral on the Internet, even spreading overseas and attracting foreign netizens with the unimaginable “Chinese creativity”, CCTV news reported.

In the clips, there are shining laser (激光) reflective umbrellas to dispel darkness, umbrellas with floor-length plastic curtains to prevent one’s clothes from getting wet, twin umbrellas specially designed for couples and many others. All of them are made by the man in the clips, Lei Penglin. 38-year-old Lei has operated an umbrella factory in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province. Netizens affectionately call him “uncle” due to his performances in the clips.

In 2014, Lei established his own factory. At first, his factory received thousands of orders. However, as the competition intensified, Lei had to explore new opportunities. He found that creative and unique products always stood out. Therefore, Lei started to infuse creative ideas into the products and, in 2022, his umbrella with an attached flashlight gained popularity. “Consumers pursue personalized products. So the umbrellas have to function as decorations aside from just preventing sunshine and rain,” Lei said.

In the comment section of the product videos, Lei noticed an interesting request with many likes, suggesting to him to make a reflective umbrella for walking in the dark. Following the advice, Lei created the “laser reflective umbrella”, selling over 70,000 units once upon release. From then on, Lei started to attach great importance to comments to absorb new ideas.

Presently, Lei spends several hours reading comments every day. “Basically 300 to 500 comments a day, I will read and reply to them all by myself. Only by carefully observing can I know everyone’s need, and solve the after-selling problems on time,” he said. Several products developed based on the comments have been on shelf. “Almost all the umbrellas made so far can be sold; none have suffered loss,” Lei introduced.

In the future, Lei hopes to make some Chinese-style umbrellas that can be paired with Han-style clothing. “I want to try something new and also advocate for our Chinese culture,” Lei added.

1. What is the feature of Lei’s umbrellas?
A.Conventional.B.Innovative.C.Unimaginative.D.Durable.

文章大意:这是一篇新闻报道。近日,中国出版了一系列涵盖八部经典京剧作品的中英文书籍,旨在以直接的方式揭示这一艺术形式的细节。文章对此进行了详细报道。

10 . A series of books in Chinese and English covering eight classic works of Peking Opera recently released, with the aim of revealing details about the art form in a direct way.

The bilingual (双语的) books are from the Translation Series of a Hundred Jingju Classics, a project originated from 2011, which is part of the effort by the central government to promote Chinese culture overseas.

Peking Opera, with its complex and colorful costumes and make-up, as well as the unique performance combining singing, dialogue, acting and acrobatics (杂技), has become a symbol of traditional Chinese culture. Over the last 200 years, more than 1, 000 Peking Opera shows have been produced telling the most classic historical stories in China, as well as giving glimpses of society, according to Wang. The art form was listed as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity (非物质文化遗产) by UNESCO in 2010. Famous performers such as Mei Lanfang and Cheng Yanqiu have also taken Peking Opera abroad. And though foreign fans are impressed by it, few understand the stories told on stage.

To help foreigners understand the art form better, Sun Ping, dean, School of Art, Beijing Foreign Studies University, and her team have edited the new books. Different from previous English translations of books that mostly covered the scripts (剧本) of Peking Opera plays, the new series introduces nearly all aspects of the art form, including the script, actors and actresses, performance skills, musical instruments and costumes, according to Sun, who is herself a highly regarded Peking Opera artist.

“It fills the blank in overseas promotions of Peking Opera,” says Liu Jian, a professor at the National Academy of Chinese Theater Arts. “The inheritance and promotion of Peking Opera are very important. In a sense, promotion is even more important. The project sets a good example.”

Scott Ian Rainen, an expert from the United States, who works at China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration, says he was happy to read the new books. Foreigners often don’t understand the plot in a Peking Opera play, but the books introduce the cultural and historical background, its character modeling, costumes and props, artistic theories and so on.

1. Why are the set of bilingual books released?
A.To stress the importance of Peking Opera.
B.To attract foreigners to learn Peking Opera.
C.To promote the diversity of Peking Opera.
D.To present Peking Opera more effectively.
2. What is the third paragraph mainly about?
A.The advantage of learning Peking Opera.
B.The brief introduction of Peking Opera.
C.The benefits of releasing these bilingual books.
D.The reason for people’s attachment to Peking Opera.
3. What’s special about these translations of books?
A.They cover stories about Peking Opera.
B.They share a more significant art value.
C.They are better in covering the scripts of Peking Opera.
D.They are overall in showing the features of Peking Opera.
4. What is Scott lan Rainen’s attitude towards the new project?
A.Subjective.B.Sceptical.C.Positive.D.Tolerant.
