1 . 阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。

There are many things in senior middle school that I still remember clearly. I studied three years in a country school, which is faraway. However, it has a good environment and strict but kind teachers, so I loved the school and all my teachers very much.

One Friday, just as we began to read books in reading class at our desks, our teacher, Mrs. Hill, said that she needed to be out of the classroom for a few minutes. She asked the class to read in silence while she was gone. And she said that those who didn’t read books in silence would have to be punished when she returned. It was well-known that Mrs. Hill was strict. So we had to be on our best behaviour.

But that Friday, Mrs. Hill hadn’t been gone for ten seconds before some students in the classroom started to talk. From one corner of the room I heard Josh ask Nick, “Can I trade my candies for your toy?” At the other end of the room I heard Samantha tell Kayla, “Let’s sit together on the bus for the museum field trip tomorrow.” And so it went all around me, until about half of the students communicated with each other.

After a while, I, too, forgot about Mrs. Hill’s instructions. I turned back and asked my friend Liza, “Can I borrow your storybook and keep it for a day?” As soon as the words were out of my mouth, Mrs. Hill walked into the classroom. The whole class returned to silence immediately. And we were full of fear.

Mrs. Hill slowly looked around the classroom and said, “If you were talking while I was gone, then please stand up.” The guilt (内疚) suddenly weighed heavily on me. “I shouldn’t have talked while she was not in the classroom. And now I should be honest and admit my mistake bravely. This is what my parents have always told me.” I thought. Then, I summoned up (鼓起) my courage to stand up, worried about the punishment that waited for me. Then I looked around.

注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

To my surprise, no one followed me and I was the only one in the classroom standing.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍了我们应该和积极的朋友共度时光,以及这样做的好处。

2 . One of the biggest complaints I hear from people is that their friends just aren’t there for them. More than that, sometimes friends are downright rude or even mean. You can’t change people, but you can surround yourself with more positive people. Here are some benefits that spending time with positive friends can provide.

With positive friends, you don’t need to beg for help when you need it because chances are that they will be there for you without asking. Positive individuals want others to be happy, and will go out of their way to help you when you’re feeling down. As About. com’s Guide to Stress states, “Ideal friendships provide support when you’re down, fun when you’re up, wisdom when you’re lost.”

Compare that to toxic friends, who might snipe at (诽谤,中伤) you or even laugh at you behind your back. Negative people celebrate the downfall of others, and as a result you’ll end up feeling worse about yourself or the situation you’re dealing with. Friends who aren’t positive will add to whatever amount of stress you are feeling.

Your positive friends will not only help you recover from negative hits you take in life, but they will also inspire you to be the best you can be. For example, perhaps you always wanted to be a writer. The negative people in your life will probably tell you all the reasons why you won’t succeed. But who needs that? Chances are you have already gone over the reasons why you might fail and this is what has prevented you from trying. But with positive people in your life, you’ll feel more comfortable sharing these types of goals because your friends will give you the emotional push you need to go after what you want in life.

You naturally attract the kinds of friends who are most like you. So if you’re a downer, you’ll probably find that negative people come to you. The same is true for being positive. The more you are able to keep a positive attitude, the more like-minded people you’ll attract in return.

1. Who are probably your true friends according to the passage?
A.Those who you can change gradually.
B.Those who will stay with you when you’re in need.
C.Those who will not turn to you whenever in trouble.
D.Those who are always polite and never waste anything
2. Why does the writer mention the statement of About. Com’s Guide to Stress?
A.To emphasize the importance of friendships.
B.To point out everyone may meet with difficulties.
C.To explain to us what ideal friendships are in reality.
D.To compare the differences between success and failure.
3. What does the writer intend to tell us by saying “The same is true for being positive”?
A.It is true that everyone is positive in life.
B.If you are positive, you’ll attract positive friends.
C.The negative people don’t like the positive ones.
D.The positive people would like to stay with everyone.
4. Which of the following is conveyed in this passage?
A.Positive friends can benefit you a lot.
B.Friendship is love with understanding.
C.Old friends and old wine are the best.
D.A friend in need is a friend indeed.

THE FRESHMAN CHALLENGE

I’m a freshman at senior high school.     1     (go) from junior high school to senior high school is a really big challenge. The first week was a little     2     (confuse).

First, I had to think very     3     (careful) about which courses I wanted to take. My adviser recommended that I should sign up for     4     (advance) literature because I like English and I’m good at it.

I had to choose extra-curricular     5     (activity), too. I tried to join the school football team,     6     the coach told me that I didn’t play well enough. Obviously, I was     7     (happiness), but I won’t quit. I’ll find a way to improve on my own so that I can make the team next year. I joined     8     volunteer club instead. Every Wednesday, we work at a soup kitchen and hand out food to homeless people in the community.

I know I’ll have to study harder as a senior high school student and get used     9     being responsible for a lot more. I’m a bit worried about     10     (keep) up with the other students in my advanced course, and it’ll be quite difficult to get used to all the homework. Still, I’m happy to be here. Studying hard isn’t always fun, but I’ll be well prepared for university or whatever else comes in the future.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了一项关于大学生的研究表明,那些挑食的人不仅会面临健康的问题,往往还经历着社交恐惧症等挑战。

4 . Parents annoyed by their little ones’ picky food choices often sigh in anger, thinking, “They’ll grow out of it by college.” Maybe not, suggests a new study from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. Some young people continue their picky eating into early adulthood, often restricting their diets to 10 food s or even fewer. Such a deficient diet can mean they’re not getting the fibre (纤维) and vegetables they need, which could be a health problem. The study also suggests picky eaters may also be experiencing other challenges such as social phobias (恐惧症), including around eating. The social phobia is the fear of being judged by others during everyday activities, often resulting in fear or embarrassment.

For the study, researchers surveyed 488 Midwestern college students. About 40% of the students were identified as picky eaters. And about 65% of those respondents said they ate fewer than 10 foods. “We asked participants to just tell us what challenges around picky eating might have had or any benefits they might see, and people answered differently in terms of what has an effect on them,” said co-author Lauren Dial, a doctoral student at Bowling Green State at the time of the study.

Many indicated they’d eat less or not at all outside the home. One 19-year-old man said he’d drink water half the time “due to my picky eating”, according to the study. Another 18-year-old said, “Sometimes there are some awkward comments when I am eating with my girlfriend and her family.” A 23-year-old woman said her parents would get frustrated at her refusal to try the foods she was served.

“Picky eating does have a lot to do with the presentation of foods (how they’re presented on a plate), and the texture (口感) of foods,” Dial said, “but there’s also fear of trying new foods and that might play into picky eating.” By learning more about picky eating in adults, the researchers said they may be able to determine how best to intervene (干预) before the problem becomes more severe for some people.

1. What can best replace the underlined word “deficient” in paragraph 1?
A.High-fibre.B.Low-fat.C.Balanced.D.Limited.
2. What were the participants asked to do during the research?
A.Record how often they eat out.
B.Ignore what influences their eating.
C.Express how picky eating affects them.
D.Count how many kinds of foods they prefer.
3. How does the author mainly develop paragraph 3?
A.By presenting data.B.By making comparisons.
C.By following time order.D.By providing examples.
4. What can be inferred about picky eating in the last paragraph?
A.It has something to do with family traditions.
B.It can be easily cured by the researchers.
C.It can have both physical and mental reasons.
D.It often comes along with serious mental illnesses.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章介绍了一只名叫Janus的双头希腊龟住在瑞士日内瓦自然历史博物馆,它过着舒适的生活并且最近人们为它庆祝了25岁生日。

6 . Any 25th birthday is a cause for celebration. But it was even more so for Janus, a two-headed Greek tortoise (龟). Living in the Natural History Museum of Geneva, Switzerland, Janus is now believed to be the world’s oldest two-headed tortoise. The museum celebrated the special occasion with a day-long party filled with fun events, which included taking photos with the birthday “boy”.

In the wild, Greek tortoises can live up to two hundred years in their natural habitat. However, two-headed tortoises, like Janus, usually do not survive for that long. Unlike normal tortoises, they are unable to take back their two heads into their shell, making them highly easy to be attacked.

Janus, who has spent his entire life in the museum, faces no such danger. But life is not without challenges for the two-headed tortoise who also has two hearts and two pairs of lungs. Each head controls the front and back legs on its side of the body. The right head is more curious and more awake. The left head is more passive and loves to eat. This can lead to confusion when the two heads decide to go in different directions. To make matters worse, the two heads frequently rub against each other, resulting in skin sores (溃疡). Janus also has a hard time rolling back onto his feet when he accidentally turns over. If left on their backs for too long, tortoises can get sunburned, dehydrated (脱水的) and even die.

Fortunately, Janus has a special caregiver, Angelica Bourgoin, to make sure he lives a long and healthy life. The tortoise receives a daily massage and is bathed in green tea and flower water. He eats a special diet of organic fruits and vegetables, keeps active with walks, and rides on his skateboard. With such loving care, the two-headed tortoise will surely continue to break many more records for long life.

1. Why is it hard for two-headed tortoises to survive in the wild?
A.They can’t avoid biting each other.B.They can’t find enough food to eat.
C.They can’t hide from their enemies.D.They can’t run as fast as normal ones.
2. Where was Janus born?
A.In a pet store.B.In the museum.
C.In the ocean.D.In Bourgoin’s home.
3. What will be Janus’s biggest threat if he’s left alone on his back?
A.The death of thirst.B.Different decisions.
C.The pain on his skin.D.Two halves of body.
4. Which of the following can best describe Janus’s life?
A.Terrible.B.Free.C.Easy.D.Boring.
