文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文。文章介绍了作者作为英语教师在课堂上使用科技有困难,但是在混合式教学中引入了在线朗读项目,该项目可以很好地服务学生的学习和作者的教学。

1 . As an English as an Additional Language (EAL) teacher, I work with over one hundred students from grades 1 — 8 with CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) levels varying between A1.1 and B1.2.

Being a resource teacher, I work in small rooms without using much technology. If I choose to include technology into my lesson, I need to borrow devices from a classroom teacher, having only one iPad of my own. On previous occasions, many of the laptops were not charged, and we had difficulty with student log-ins, or Internet access. It seemed that I always had to have a backup plan when technology use was planned.

In order to avoid disappointment, as part of my blended (混合) learning instruction, I provided my students with accounts to an online reading program with leveled books. Students have the opportunity to listen to native-like reading and pronunciation, read the books and record their reading. Furthermore, the learners can work at their own pace on books that are at their levels and they can use it on their own, even if their parents are at work or do not understand English.

At the same time, I have access to the students’ detailed skill report, which shows their performance in all areas. This could be of great avail in terms of shaping my lessons to better address my students’ needs.

One of the biggest challenges I have experienced regarding blended learning was that some of my students’ families do not have devices or Internet-access. There are also parents who believe that anything the child works at on the computer is equal to “screen time” which is bad for the child. But I feel that it is my job to gradually introduce technology and help my students on their journey of becoming independent learners.

1. What does the author intend to tell us in Paragraph 2?
A.She isn’t good at using technology.
B.She has got bored with teaching English.
C.She isn’t confident about the future of her career.
D.She has difficulty in using technology for teaching.
2. What do Paragraphs 3 and 4 focus on?
A.Different opinions about online reading.
B.The design inspiration for blended learning.
C.The great advantages of the online reading program.
D.Effective ways to make good progress in online communication.
3. The underlined word “avail” in Paragraph 4 can be replaced with “            ”.
A.riskB.doubtC.distanceD.benefit
4. What can we infer from the passage?
A.Students benefit from the program by reading at a fixed pace.
B.Most students’ families are struggling to fight poverty.
C.Some students have great trouble choosing learning resources.
D.Some students’ parents are against using the reading program.

文章大意:本文是一篇应用文。文章介绍了一个品牌的珐琅铸铁锅,包括其特点和与其他品牌的区别等信息。

2 . If you are on the market to get a good enameled (搪瓷的) Dutch oven, chances are that you may find some French brands, such as Le Creuset and Staub. Nevertheless, when you are considering buying one, you may immediately find these cost a few hundred bucks.

Among the hottest brands, designed for only about $95 with a lifetime guarantee, Input Milo now offers only one item, which can really compete with those hot French ovens.

Style and Design

Because of a promise to source the finest item and to employ the finest achievable style and design, the Milo Dutch oven is really a kettle using a value that can not be overcome. The oven has a normal size, 12 pounds, in 5.5 quarts (夸脱), for all cooking jobs, handy and enameled with small handles. And the very low cost comes chiefly by cutting out the middleman and attempting to sell directly to shoppers.

Milo VS. Other Brand Names

Milo plans to compete with the greater brand names because its style and operation are all equal to those. Cheaper Dutch ovens tend to be somewhat short-term, while Milo is devoted to producing products that survive a life or even longer.

3 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

The bell rang, announcing the end of the vivid art class Karson loved most. He was delighted that he had created a very satisfying work. So he walked to the back of the classroom to put his work away carefully. There, lying on the carpet in front of the classroom bookcase, was a golden ticket! Karson picked it up. His heat beat faster when he saw that the name line was blank. He couldn’t believe his luck!

The boys and girls in Karson’s class could earn golden tickets by doing well in their study or by being extra helpful or kind. Once a week their teacher drew a ticket out of a box on her desk and let the winner choose a prize.

Today was the golden ticket drawing, and here was another ticket, just for him! Karson looked around. No one else was near the ticket. All his classmates were at their desks, laughing and talking with each other. Miss Evans was engaged in grading the papers collected early in the morning.

Karson decided to write his name on the blank line. Then he could put it into the prize box with the six tickets he’d already earned. With so many chances, one of his tickets would most probably be picked! Then he could choose the pink toy pig for his sister’s birthday, just like he had been hoping.

He smiled and reached for the pencil in his pocket. Suddenly his fingers stopped. There was a strange feeling in his chest, and it wasn’t his heartbeat. “It’s ‘finders keepers’, right?” he wondered. He looked out of the window and tried to figure it out. On the one hand, he did find the ticket, but he hadn’t earned it. Somebody must have lost it. But on the other hand, he did need tis extra ticket for his great plan!

5 . In many people’s eyes, plants are quiet and passive. They can’t talk. They can’t walk.     1    .

Or can they? A new BBC documentary series, The Green Planet, gives us a new look at plants. Released on January 10 on Bilibili, it uncovers the wonderful and dramatic ways that plants behave.

Plants compete against each other to live. Each species has its own ways of defense. In rainforests, different kinds of plants race for sunlight. The forest floor is described as a “battlefield” in the series as only two percent of the sunlight filters (透过) through it.     2    . But they are caught up in a vine (藤蔓) that tries to take a ride. Finally, they are both overtaken by a fast-growing balsa tree. As the balsa’s leaves are smooth, the vine can’t get a hold. Similarly, some trees make poisonous sap (毒汁) to protect themselves.

3    . In deserts, the roots of Euphrates poplar are connected. If a tree finds water, it will share it with others through the roots. Studies also show that plants use fungus (真菌) in the soil as a way to “talk” to each other. It’s kind of like how Wi-Fi works.     4    .

The series not only lets us wonder at the plant world but pushes us to understand that plants are important. “    5    . We depend upon them for every mouth of food that we eat and every breath that we breathe,” said David Attenborough, presenter of the series. It’s time to look after wild plants just as carefully as our houseplants.

A.And they can’t think like us
B.Plants are the basis of all life, including ourselves
C.The Green Planet reveals the secret lives of plants
D.Plants also help each other and even communicate
E.Some plants like Monstera spread their big leaves to reach light
F.Filming took three years to complete and took place in 27 countries
G.If a tomato plant gets a leaf disease, it can tell nearby plants about it
