2 . American billionaire Elon Musk has demonstrated a technology designed to use a computer chip inside the head to control the brain. During a video demonstration on Friday, Musk provided details about the system, called Neuralink.

Musk says he hopes the technology can be used to treat neural disorders and help spinal injury victims regain body movement. Musk also believes the system could be used in the future to improve intelligence to help humans keep up with supercomputers and artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

During the show, Musk showed off a model of the Neuralink device. It is about 23 millimeters wide. It is designed to be implanted into a person's skull. Small wires would connect the device directly to the brain.

The Neuralink system is currently being tested in pigs, with plans to seek government approval for human testing sometime in the future.

A pig named Gertrude was also shown during the show. Musk explained that Gertrude had a Neuralink chip inside its head. The device is meant to record nerve activity in the pig's nose and mouth.

Musk said the company had three pigs, each with two chips. He described the animals as "healthy, happy and indistinguishable from a normal pig." Musk said the company was able to predict with "high accuracy" a pig's leg movement on a running machine using data from the chip.

Musk noted that Neuralink first wants to use the device on people with severe spinal cord injuries to help them talk and move using their brain waves. He said he is hopeful that, in the long term, those people could regain "full-body motion."

Some neuroscientists not linked to the company said the presentation suggested Neuralink had made great progress with the technology. However, they warned that many more studies will be needed to test the long-term success of such devices.

1. What good can the Neuralink device do to the disabled?
A.Making them think clearly.
B.Treating their diseases successfully.
C.Having them keep up with supercomputers.
D.Helping them to move again.
2. Which can best describe the pigs with a Neuralink inside their heads?
A.Normal.B.Active.C.Nervous.D.Intelligent.
3. What do some neuroscientists think of Neuralink?
A.it has been a great success.
B.it will succeed very soon.
C.it has a long way to go.
D.It needs support from new theories.
4. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.There Will Be Great Progress in Brain Science.
B.Musk Shows Technology Linking Computer to Brain.
C.Three Pigs Are being Tested Instead of Human Beings.
D.The Disabled Will Receive Better Treatment in the future.

5 . The Internet has opened up a whole new online world for us to meet, chat and go where we’ve never been before.

But just as in face to face communication, there are some rules of behavior that should be followed when on line.    1    Imagine how you’d feel if you were in the other person’s shoes.

For anything you’re about to send: ask yourself, “Would I say this to the person’s face?” if the answer is no, rewrite and reread.    2

If someone in the chat room is rude to you, your instinct (本能) is to fire back in the same manner. But try not to do so.    3    If it was caused by a disagreement with another member, try to fix the situation by politely discussing it. Remember to respect the beliefs and opinions of others in the chat room.

4    Offer advice when asked by newcomers, as they may not be sure what to do or how to communicate. When someone makes a mistake, whether it’s a stupid question or an unnecessarily long answer, be kind about it. If it’s a small mistake, you may not need to say anything. Even if you feel strongly about it, think twice before saying anything. Having good manners yourself doesn’t give you license to correct everyone else.     5    At the same time, if you find you are wrong, be sure to correct yourself and apologize to those that you have offended.

It is not polite to ask others personal questions such as their age, sex and marital status. Unless you know the person very well, and you are both comfortable with sharing personal information, don’t ask such questions.

A.It’s natural that there are some people who speak rudely or make mistakes online.
B.Repeat the process till you feel sure that you’d feel comfortable saying the words to the person’s face.
C.Everyone was new to the network once.
D.The basic rule is simple: treat others in the same way you would want to be treated.
E.When you send short messages to a person online, you must say something beautiful to hear.
F.You should either ignore the person, or use your chat software to block their messages.
G.If you do decide to tell someone about a mistake, point it out politely.

9 . In this modern age, most of us have forgotten to be patient and get angry very quickly over minor things like a traffic jam, a baby crying and such things. It often seems so easy to get what we want right away that when we have to wait even a little while, it seems like we are waiting for ages. We used to be happy to wait 10 - 15 minutes it took to reheat food in the oven(烤箱),but now we’re impatient when waiting two minutes it takes in the microwave.

With the convenience provided by modern society, is patience still a virtue(美德) in the fast-paced world? To begin with, I'd like to share the meaning of the word “patience”. Generally it means being able to tolerate delay without getting impatient. However, it isn't necessarily a passive activity. It takes an active behavior, knowing when to take action and when not to.

So I would argue that patience is still -and always- a virtue. Sure, I used to be one of those who often stared at the microwave for the full two minutes it took to heat my food. And in the end, the food tasted bad. If I had had the patience to heat the food properly in the oven, I would have enjoyed a delicious meal.

Actually the benefits of patience go beyond just heating up our food. Patience is an exercise in self-control which shows that we can exercise good judgment. Lack of patience can cause us to make wrong decisions that negatively affect our health and happiness, waste our time, put us under a lot of stress and affect our relationships in a very negative way.

Everything in life happens for a reason. Sometimes we face an obstacle(障碍) because we need to grow in ways we didn't realize. It's not always obvious when that was happening, but with patience we will soon see clearly why it occurred and what we were meant to learn from it.

Taking time to think about our actions and being patient are a small price to pay when we determine the best possible solution to any problems.

1. The author uses the example of reheating food to show that_______.
A.more people lack patience nowB.high technology brings more benefits

4. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.The causes of impatienceB.Is patience really a virtue?
C.Ways to exercise patienceD.What does the word patience mean?

10 . Many people especially children, do not have good handwashing habits. Children may think that it is a tiresome thing to do. To help solve this problem, two entrepreneurs (企业家) from India created a product to turn handwashing into a fun activity. Amanat Anand and Shubham Issar created a device called the SoaPen. Issar said, “The SoaPen is a soap that kids can draw with. It's a fun way to teach kids how to wash their hands.”

AS the name suggests, the SoaPen is a pen made out of soap. The children draw on their hands with the soap pen and then wash it off. If they do not spend enough time washing it off, the colors remain on their hands.

To get their product on the market, the two women joined a business development program in Washington D. C. called Halcyon Incubator. Mike Malloy is the program manager at Halcyon Incubator. He said turning a great idea into a product that can help others is not easy. “There is kind of an up-and-down- roller coaster ride in the journey of being an entrepreneur. One day things are going great; the next day things are terrible. And if you' re doing that alone, it can be really, really difficult.”

Halcyon connects what it calls “social entrepreneurs” with business professionals. These experts help the entrepreneurs sell their products. Anand said that with this business help, they were able to do more than they would have by themselves.

Anand and Issar said their goal is to donate one SoaPen to children of poor families for every three they sell at full price. The product could have a real influence on public health. The United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund, UNICEF, reports that 1.5 million children die each year as a result of diarrhea (痢疾). UNICEF says good handwashing could decrease that number by 40 percent.

1. Why did the two entrepreneurs create the SoaPen?
A.To teach kids how to draw.B.To help kids have some fun.
C.To get kids to wash their hands quickly.D.To encourage kids to wash hands carefully
2. How did the two entrepreneurs try to market their product?
A.They turned to Halcyon Incubator.B.They created a development program.
C.They asked other entrepreneurs for help.D.They employed some business professionals.

A.Being an entrepreneur is full of surprises.B.Being an entrepreneur is very painful.
C.Being an entrepreneur is a cool thing.D.Being an entrepreneur is really hard.
4. What does the author want to tell us about the SoaPen in the last paragraph?
A.Its price.B.Its value.C.Its popularity.D.Its quality.
