文章大意:这是一篇说明文,文章介绍了在工作中变得积极的几个步骤。

3 . Being Positive Is A Choice

As we all know, no job is always ideal and we often face obstacles that can impact our mood at work.     1     but I think that being a positive person is a choice we can make.

However, sitting back and waiting for positive change to happen will only lead to greater disappointment. You have to start somewhere when looking for a potential new opportunity. Where do you stand with these four critical steps?

When was your resume (简历) last updated?

I have heard, “Oh, I know I need to do that soon”, more times than I care to say. No one enjoys this task,     2    . It’s an annual commitment you need to make for yourself.

Are you networking?

We may all shrink at this since we think of having to meet with 20 strangers.     3    . And talk about business, careers, or whatever. I can’t stress enough how important networking is.

Are you current with new skills and technology?

The world is changing so fast and you have to stay up to speed with keeping your skills and new technology fresh. Take a class, read a book, and take a new course etc. These investments pay back with enormous profit.

    4    ?

Is your negativity at work now crossing into your personal life? Have you reviewed your hours doing business compared with personal time? This is so important and needs to be evaluated and discussed with your partner or friends on a regular basis. If you find that the negatives of work or personal life becoming too much, seeking professional assistance is a wise decision.     5    . As these professionals are trained to assist those whose negative issues are hurdles too high to cross.

A.Focus on one person at a time
B.but you always need to keep it fresh
C.Have you discussed with your family
D.We can’t be expected to be positive all of the time
E.There is nothing wrong with asking for that help
F.Have you truly evaluated your work-life balance
G.but you have accomplished more important things

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要说明了芬兰学校制度改革的时间,教育制度改革后的特点等。

4 . Finland’s education system is considered one of the best in the world. Finland (芬兰) is not only the top European country but also competes with Asian giants like Shanghai, Singapore and South Korea. But what makes the educational system in this small country so different from others in the western world?

Until the 1960s Finland’s school system had been influenced largely by its neighbor, the Soviet Union. Most students left school after six years; some went on to private (私人的) schools. Only the wealthy ones got a better education. In the middle of the 1960s the Finnish government saw the need to reform and modernize (使现代化) their education system if they wanted to be internationally competitive.

Most of Finland’s schools get their money from the government. The people who are in charge of the education system, from teachers to officials are trained teachers, not politicians like in other countries.

Teachers work with their pupils in school as much as possible. When teachers are not with the pupils, they spend a lot of time in schools working on the curriculum and new projects.

All Finnish children, whether they come from the city or the country, whether from a rich or poor family, have the same chances in education. There are not so many differences between the wealthy and poor, as in America or other western European countries. Education experts say that there is very little difference between very good and the worst students. Two thirds of Finnish pupils move on to higher education, the highest rate (比率) in the European Union.

1. What did the Finland government do in the middle of the 1960s?
A.They encouraged students to go to private school.
B.They lengthened preschool education.
C.They reformed the school system.
D.They learned modern education from neighboring countries.
2. We can learn from the text that ________.
A.the children in Finland attend preschool at the age of six
B.the children in Finland are educated equally
C.the school system in Finland is better than that in Singapore
D.the school equipment in Finland doesn’t meet international standards
3. The author mentions Shanghai, Singapore and South Korea to show ________.
A.the school system in Finland has been very successful
B.Asian countries are successful in school education
C.students in these places are better than those in European countries
D.the educational system in Asia is different from that in the western world
4. What can be the best title for the text?

文章大意:这是一篇记叙文,文章主要讲述了作者业余活动的前后改变:由喜欢购物变成卖东西,乃至后来在旧货出售处遇到一位出于困境中的女士,作者帮助她解决困难的暖人故事。

5 . I fell into love with shopping at the age of 10. After a short time being just a buyer, I wanted to sell something. I had many things around the house from my childhood that I no longer needed. I knew, with the help of my father, I could make money. I enjoyed myself by selling things on my dad’s account (账户).

On December 9, 2022, I opened my own account and began to start my own business. Things were going great and then I realized that selling things around house wasn’t making me the kind of money that I wanted to make, so I decided to turn my business into a resale (零售) shop. I went around to the garage sale (旧货出售处) and bought items at low prices and sold them at higher prices.

Last November, I went to a garage sale that was a little bit different. A single lady had many nice items that I knew I would sell quickly. I went up to her and started a conversation with her. Through the conversation, I knew she was jobless at the moment and needed money to support her family. I decided to sell any of her things for her to help her out. She looked at me for a moment and then broke into tears. I took away some of her things and over the next month I made over $1,500 for her! She was so thankful for all of my help.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了关于狗天生就能理解人类的研究过程以及研究发现小狗可能一出生就知道如何回应人类发起的交流,但它们自己发起交流的能力可能要晚一些。

6 . Dogs may have the title of our best friends through their interactions with humans, but now researchers say these social skills could be present shortly after birth rather than being learned.

To better understand the role of biology in dogs’ abilities to communicate with humans, the researchers studied 375 eight-week-old service dogs. They looked at how these dogs performed in a series of tasks designed to measure their communication skills. The puppies were still living with their littermates (同窝出生者) and had not been sent to live with a volunteer puppy raiser, making it unlikely that they had learned about his or her behavior.

In the first task, a person hid a treat beneath one of two overturned cups and pointed to it to see if the puppy could follow the gesture. Since dogs are good at using noses to find things, a treat was also taped to the insides of both cups. In the second task, puppies watched as the researchers placed a yellow block next to the correct cup, instead of pointing to indicate where the puppy should look for the food.

The third task was designed to observe puppies’ tendency to look at human faces. The researchers spoke to the puppy in a voice people sometimes use when talking to a baby. They then measured how long the puppy fixed a stare on the human. In the last task, researchers sealed a treat inside a closed container and presented it to the puppy. They then measured how often the puppy looked to the human for help in opening the container.

The study found that while many of the puppies were responsive to humans’ physical and verbal cues, very few looked to humans for help with the unsolvable task. Researchers said, “This suggests that while puppies may be born knowing how to respond to human-initiated communication, the ability to initiate (发起) communication on their own may come later.” The next step will be to see if specific genes that may contribute to dogs’ abilities to communicate with humans can be identified.

1. Why were eight-week-old service dogs chosen for the study?
A.They were cute and safe to deal with.
B.They were the best age to learn.
C.They had had little contact with humans before.
D.They were unlikely influenced by their mates.
2. What is the researchers’ purpose in taping food to both cups?
A.To provide clues for the puppies’ final decisions.
B.To make comparisons between different conditions.
C.To check the puppies’ preference for a particular color.
D.To prevent the puppies from making use of their smell.
3. What can we know from the study?
A.Puppies can understand our body language.
B.Puppies are good at asking humans for help.
C.Puppies are born to initiate communication with humans.
D.Puppies need specific genes to communicate with humans.
4. What’s the main idea of the text?
A.Dogs are born to be able to learn.B.Dogs are born to understand humans.
C.Dogs are talented performers.D.Dogs are humans’ best friends.
