1 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

One day, Dad took Tim and Lily to the supermarket. “Now where has Tim gone? ” asked Dad. Lily shrugged. Keeping track of Tim was not on her agenda today. She’d been trying to decide on the perfect gift for Dad’s upcoming birthday. This year, she was determined to prepare a present that couldn’t be bought at a store or ordered online.

“Daddy!” Tim appeared out of nowhere, disturbing Lily’s thoughts. He yelled, holding a cereal (麦片) box in the air, “Let’s get it! It’s nutritious and delicious! And it has a dragon inside! ” Tim remembered Dad saying that when he was a kid, almost every box of cereal came with a toy. Ever since, Tim was certain that he, too, would find a toy in the next box.

When they got home, Dad and Lily began putting away the groceries. Tim couldn’t wait to take the box of cereal upstairs to his room. By the time they finished, Lily could hear Tim shouting. “No! No!” Tim’s voice kept getting louder and louder. Lily imagined each word as the sound of a hammer striking metal. Then she raced towards her brother’s room. The moment she stepped inside, she felt a crunch (嘎吱声) beneath her feet. It was obvious that Tim dumped all that cereal looking for a toy dragon. “They lied! No dragon. Just a picture on the box.” Tim sounded close to tears. Annoyed as Lily was, she said quietly, “Let’s see what the box says.” “I don’t know how to read.” her brother said in a low voice.

It reminded Lily that last school year, Tim’s teacher who sent home easy-to-read books and worksheets insisted that he was ready to learn to read and just needed some extra help, but Tim complained about books “for babies” and “boring” homework assignments. It was really a headache for Dad to teach Tim to read! At the thought of these, it seemed that Tim’s dragon issue had swept away her concern for a present for Dad.

2 . Basketball is a team sport, and a good pass is very important. The pass is the action of moving the ball to create scoring opportunities. The pass calls for self-sacrifice for the greater good of the team.     1     The following are some kinds of it.

The chest pass is a quick and accurate pass from the chest of the passer to the receiver.     2     You should extend your arms in a quick motion to pass the ball with palms facing outwards and thumbs facing the player you passed to. This is called follow-through.

3 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Here is a secret that everyone knows: I don’t like to ask for help. Of course, my disability means that I need assistance when I get dressed and have to be driven everywhere, but that is precisely my point.

One night a few years ago, after my caregiver helped me to bed, I enjoyed my favorite part of my routine — playing with my service dog Marshall. When the rest of the world made me feel “lacking”, Marshall made me feel like “enough” .

As usual,   he jumped off the bed after a few minutes, but the pain in his eyes told me something was wrong. A few days later, a trip to the vet confirmed my worst fears. Dr Tom said, “I must perform an operation to treat him.”“Is he in pain?”I held my breath. Then I got the answer “Yes.”

I felt heartbroken. I couldn’t remember talking about the details. I had one huge question:“How much would the operation cost?”“About$2, 500. It might as well have been a million.” I couldn’t afford it. Each day, I searched for ways to raise money for this operation.

A beautiful bike trail was close to the apartment where we lived. On most of the days of our eight years together, Marshall and I used it. I loved the trees, the fresh air and being outside. Over the years, many of the neighbors got familiar with us. Everyone loved Marshall.

Then one day, an idea occurred to me. Could I ask these people to contribute to the cost of Marshall’s operation? If I could push my wheelchair a certain number of laps (圈) and get money for every lap that I completed, might I raise enough money for Marshall to have his operation? Our regular route was a mile and a half long. My goal was to push my wheelchair ten laps, a total of fifteen miles. Next, feeling very bold and a little nervous, I set a date. Then I made posters and posted them around my apartment and all over the bike trail. My neighbors were concerned for Marshall.

5 . It was a cold Saturday night in February. Some 200 New Yorkers carefully made their way to the reservoir (水库) in the hopes of catching a glimpse of the magical snowy owl, who had touched down in the park the week before in what was reported as the first visit there by the species in more than 130 years.

Except for a few excited screams from children, people were quiet — patiently awaiting the owl’s arrival at the reservoir’s north gatehouse. The snowy owl did not disappoint. She flew down from the darkness and surveyed the water and the people holding phones and cameras before taking off into the night to the applause of her many fans. They simply wanted to see this lovely creature whose improbable appearance seemed to signify hope after the lockdown.

New Yorkers who had long taken Central Park for granted felt a renewed love for this rectangle of green in the heart of the big city and, of course, its amazing wildlife. That the park is a beautiful and essential refuge is something that humans have only come to fully appreciate during these recent times of uncertainty.

Central Park was originally planned and constructed during another difficult time in the nation’s history — in the years before and during the American Civil War. Unlike many European parks that had originally been built for the aristocracy (贵族), Central Park was designed as a public space. In its chief architect Frederick Law Olmsted’s words, the poor and rich alike could “easily go there after their day’s work is done” and “stroll for an hour, seeing, hearing, and feeling nothing of the noise of the streets.”

As spring turns into summer, we see people sitting on the grass or benches — catching some sun, having family picnics, or tapping away on their laptops and iPads. Just being in proximity to other people in Central Park gave us a sense of community — the sense that we would somehow persevere.

1. What did people do in Central Park on that Saturday night?
A.They cheered for each other.B.They paid their first visit.
C.They came for a rare sight.D.They appreciated a water event.
2. What does the author mainly intend to do in Paragraph 4?
A.Give some examples.B.Make a comparison.
C.Introduce a new opinion.D.Add background information.
3. What do the underlined words “in proximity to” in Paragraph 5 mean?
A.close toB.free from
C.at a distance from            D.in comparison with
4. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?
A.Find Refuge in Central Park
B.Take Your Breath by Snow Owl
C.Trace Central Park to difficult times
D.Meet an improbable “visitor” in person

6 . All sounds that are louder than 85 decibels are a threat to your hearing, especially if your exposure is long or repeated. That’s because loud sounds can injure or destroy hair cells in your inner ear that are involved in sending sound signals to your brain.

Since most of us don’t carry decibel meters around, you can rely instead on this rule of thumb: if you are required to raise your voice to be heard by someone standing at arm’s length away then there’s potential for harm.

Deafeningly loud noise is not to blame for all hearing loss, though. Occasionally, the root of the problem is an underlying condition such as a ruptured (破裂的) eardrum. In addition, the inner ear can also simply become worse as you get older, and unfortunately, there’s no real way to prevent this.

If you suspect you’ve lost some hearing, see a GP or audiologist. A hearing aid could improve your abilities noticeably, particularly when it’s a question of picking up people’s speech. The technology itself “can take a while to get used to because your brain needs to readjust, “says audiologist Dr. Gemma Twitchen. “Research shows this is much easier if you take action on getting your hearing assessed early on, when you first notice it reducing”

Another possible consequence of noise exposure or ageing is tinnitus. This phantom (幽灵似的) ringing, buzzing, hissing or roaring is often caused by the brain compensating for missing sound input or by damaged ear hair cells sending random signals to it. Although the condition affects each sufferer differently, sleep loss, stress and trouble concentrating are among the potential consequences. If your tinnitus comes with hearing loss — and they do often show up together — then a hearing aid could ease it by giving your brain external sounds to focus on. Other potentially helpful devices include sound generators that send out gentle white noise that prevents the tinnitus from developing.

1. In most cases, how do we know that noise is harmful?
A.By carrying a decibel meter on us.
B.By keeping others at arm’s length.
C.By having to talk loudly at short range.
D.By sensing concentration trouble.
2. What is the third paragraph mainly about?
A.Consequences of loud noise.
B.Sources of deafening noise.
C.Ways to prevent hearing loss.
D.Reasons for hearing loss.
3. What can we infer from Paragraph 4?
A.Most GPs use hearing aids as a cure.
B.This technology has been around for a while.
C.Early hearing loss assessment is advisable
D.Hearing loss takes some time to readjust.
4. What do we know about tinnitus?
A.It impacts the quality of life.
B.It is a direct result of hearing loss.
C.It can be cured by a hearing aid
D.It leads to missing sound input.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章介绍了科学技术在农业中的应用,介绍了滴灌和水培农业及其优点。

9 . Agriculture has come a long way from its ancient beginnings. Long ago, farmers would work hard on their individual plots of land, using simple tools or even their bare hands. They tended to their crops for many hours each day so that the crops grew well.     1     For example, a single storm could destroy a whole year’s work, while a summer of good weather could ensure a good harvest.

Modern science and technology have helped to greatly reduce the back-breaking labour involved in farming, along with the reliance on luck and guesswork.     2

Probably one of the most beneficial innovations is drip irrigation, which has made it possible to develop big, green farms in the middle of the desert. Simcha Blass, an Israeli scientist, discovered this new way of irrigation in the 1930s. Through this discovery, farmers can now produce crops on dry land without needing much water.     3     The limited and focused use of just the right amount of water also denies moisture (水分) to weeds, keeping them from harming the crops.

4     However, what if an area has plenty of water, but little usable soil? As it turns out, it is possible to grow plants without using soil at all. With hydroponics (水培), plant roots are supported by rocks or a fiber mat. Nutrient-rich water is then provided so that the plants can grow. Recent research has centered on vertical hydroponics farming. With a vertical farm, the crops are planted in containers that are piled into plant skyscrapers.     5

With such technological advances, the image of a farmer pushing a plough will eventually become a thing of the past.

A.Luck played a great part in farming.
B.Some areas would be too dry to grow crops.
C.Drip irrigation deals with a lack of water in an area.
D.There have been experiments to make drip irrigation a reality.
E.This irrigation method uses far less water than other methods.
F.Furthermore, nearly all hydroponic farms partially or fully automated.
G.Farmers have benefited greatly from innovations in crop production.
