文章大意:这是一篇议论文。主要讨论了青少年如何看待自己的外貌,鼓励青少年要对自己的外貌有信心,因为美的形式各有不同。

1 . Are you happy with your appearance?     1

“Almost all the girls with single-fold eyelids (单眼皮) in our class have had double eyelid operations,” Zeng, a Senior 2 student from Chengdu, told Xinhua. Zeng had the same surgery done this summer.     2

From popular photo-editing apps to plastic surgery (整形手术), it seems that large eyes, pale skin and a skinny body are the only standard for beauty these days. But can following this standard really make us feel good about ourselves?

3     . According to Huxiu News, over six in ten girls choose not to take part in certain daily activities, such as attending school, because they feel bad about their looks. As much as 31 percent of teenagers avoid speaking up in class because they worry that others will notice their looks.

“Many teenagers are upset about their appearance because they believe in unrealistic standards of beauty,” experts say.       4     Seeing all these things can make anyone believe that they’re too dark, too fat, too short, or too tall.

However, trying to live up to strict standards can make us feel anxious. What troubles us is not just our “imperfect” looks, but the fact that we criticize ourselves too much.

5     Plus-size models are being featured in some fashion shows. All of us should be just as confident as they are.

A.Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes.
B.Body image anxiety is common among teenagers.
C.Guys care just as much as girls do about their body image.
D.Some teenagers might feel negative about their appearance.
E.It’s common for teenagers to feel confident about their appearance.
F.She and many of her classmates believe bigger eyes look more beautiful.
G.Perfect faces and bodies are everywhere in advertising, TV shows and social media.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,主要讲述了Z一代不再盲目追随其他文化,而是在客观看待异域文化产品的同时,通过弘扬本土文化,对什么是潮流有不同的看法。

2 . It’s been nearly two decades since the traditional clothing style Hanfu first started to reemerge in China. Since then it has gone from a small cultural movement celebrating an ancient fashion to a trend that is booming on social media, having been adopted by China’s Generation Z as a means of connecting with their past. Instead of following other cultures blindly, Generation Z now have different opinions about what trend is by promoting local culture while having an objective view of exotic cultural products.

The new tastes of Generation Z—young people born after 1995—are well represented on Bilibili. In the recent New Year’s Eve gala presented by Bilibili, it attracted more than 100 million views within 48 hours with a colourful set of programmes ranging from Peking Opera to classical Chinese cartoons. The same is also true of movie industry. Last year, for the first time, the top 10 most viewed films in China were all domestic films, while the ticket sales for imported films have dropped to only 16.28 percent.

”Generation Z grew up with the rapid development of China and under good economic conditions. With the development of the Chinese Internet industry, they have more access to diverse international information and culture, which bring them a much broader vision and makes them more open and confident in analyzing foreign culture. Apart from taking pride in China’s rapid development, this generation also pursues individuality and values devotion to the country,“ Professor Zhang Yiwu said.

He also noted that the popular rock and punk culture pursued by the 70s and 80s generation is more of a challenge against real life and local culture. Some people who were born in the 1970s and 1980s did not grow up in the Internet age—they experienced the transformation of China going from poor to rich first-hand. This kind of longing and admiration of the West came from a lack of confidence.

However, Generation Z now have the confidence to look at Western culture with equal status. This kind of cultural confidence will result in China being more active and creative in its development on the international stage in the future.

1. What does the underlined word ”exotic“ in Paragraph 1 mean?
A.Foreign.B.Fashionable.C.Traditional.D.Elegant.
2. Why is Bilibili mentioned in Paragraph 2?
A.To confirm the rise of new media.
B.To promote Chinese Internet industry.
C.To highlight the popularity of domestic art.
D.To show the popularity of New Year’s Eve gala.
3. What do we know about Generation Z from the passage?
A.They have a stronger cultural identity.
B.They are longing for cultural diversity.
C.They have made China develop rapidly.
D.They are more fond of foreign culture.
4. What can be a suitable title for the passage?
A.Confident China, Better Future
B.China’s Progress Results in Cultural Confidence
C.China’s New Generation Redefine Local Culture as Trendy
D.Hanfu Style, Connector of Ancient Fashion and Modern Trend

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了在香港举办的“数码敦煌”展的具体情况及其对比传统展览的优势和克服的数字化难题。

3 . The exhibit, Digital Dunhuang — Tales of Heaven and Earth, which was held at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, brought to Hong Kong more than 100 exhibits including the visual murals and other related programs that could allow visitors to learn about the art and history of the Mogao Caves in a fun way.

“Dunhuang was an international city, a place where East met West, on the old Silk Road. So the Mogao Caves, which were completed in a period of over 1,000 years, record the ways of life and beliefs of the different peoples that crossed paths there,” explained Fion Lin of Hong Kong Heritage Museum.

Visitors can now get up close and personal with these faraway treasures without having to step into the caves, thanks to the digitization project of the Dunhuang Academy, a pioneer that has made great progress in the digitization and 3D scanning of the Dunhuang treasures.

“Studies have shown that in a cave, both temperature and CO2 concentration level can rise with 15 tourists inside for ten minutes. As a result, the wall paintings are going to eventually fade. Digital technology has helped to strike a balance between sharing the treasures and protecting them,” said Lin.

However, digitization of the caves faces many challenges such as poor lighting and rough wall surfaces. On average, 40,000 pictures have to be taken to cover 300 m2. Great amount of efforts have been made to piece the pictures together. What the exhibition presented is the result of years of hard work.

During the exhibition period, a mini display on Dunhuang music culture was also being held at the Museum for public participation.

1. What could visitors see at the Digital Dunhuang exhibit?
A.The Mogao Caves.B.About 40,000 Dunhuang pictures.
C.Digital Dunhuang wall paintings.D.Ancient records of Dunhuang.
2. What is the significance of the digitization project of the Dunhuang Academy?
A.It helps Dunhuang become an international city.
B.It lets people better appreciate the Dunhuang art.
C.It is effective in cutting the CO level in the caves.
D.It attracts more tourists from East and West to Hong Kong.
3. What do we know about the Dunhuang wall paintings?
A.They are brightly lit.B.They are very rough.
C.It is very hard to protect them.D.It is impossible for the tourists to see them.
4. Where can you find the evidence that supports “digitization of the caves isn’t easy”?

Dewey is my pet dog. While water is his favorites, he is also a big fan of snow. One winter day, I take him to a huge snowy field where he could run and play. Before Dewey started to play, I thought would be nice to take a photo of a snowy field. Dewey was such excited to run around in the snow that he couldn’t help ran right through the photo, but ended up helping me create something fantastic. 文章大意:这是一篇议论文。文章讲述了一种现象:在生活中人们食用水果和蔬菜的时候需要削皮,这样做会导致大量的人体所需的营养成分的缺失,不利于人们摄入足量的营养成分。

8 . Many people tend to peel(削皮)fruit and vegetables when preparing them. But often, it’s not necessary.    1    What’s more, discarded(被丢弃的)fruit and vegetable peels cause climate change.

Fruit and vegetables are rich sources of vitamins, minerals, fiber and many phytochemicals that protect your cells from harm.    2    In 2017, the World Health Organization reported that around 3.9 million deaths a year worldwide were linked to people not eating enough fruit and vegetables.

Eating 400g of fruit and vegetables a day, as the WHO recommends, is difficult to achieve for many people. So could consuming fruit and vegetable peels help with this issue by adding important nutrients to people’s diets?    3    For example, nutritionally important amounts of vitamins, such as vitamin C, and minerals like iron and zinc, are found in the peel of root vegetables like wild carrots, sweet potatoes and white potatoes. And the US Department of Agriculture shows that unpeeled apples contain 15% more vitamin C than their peeled equivalents.

4    According to the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization, uneaten food, including peel, generates 8%—10% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions. New Zealand alone reports an annual wastage of 13,658 tons of vegetable peels and 986 tons of fruit peels.

Given the nutrient content of peel and its contribution to food waste, why do people peel fruit and vegetables? Some must be peeled for different reasons. For example, their outer portions are uneatable, don’t taste nice, are hard to clean or cause harm. Also, peeling may be a necessary part of the recipe, for example, when making mashed potato(土豆泥).

Are you still confused about whether to peel fruit and vegetables?    5

A.They can certainly contribute.
B.There are important nutrients in the peel.
C.Sometimes, it’s necessary to peel fruit and vegetables.
D.Actually, if many peels are eatable, don’t peel them if unnecessary.
E.With a little creativity, you can increase your fruit and vegetable intake.
F.Another reason for not discarding peels is their effect on the environment.
G.Not consuming enough of these nutrient-rich foods leads to an increased risk of deadly diseases.

文章大意:这是一篇议论文。文章谈论了在自我保健中的误区,并建议人们谨慎追求自我保健。

9 . On TikTok, “#Selfcare” has 28.2 billion views, while the hashtag (主题标签) can be found on over 66 million Instagram posts. Also, books about self-care often top many people s shopping lists.

On the surface, it makes complete sense. Who wouldn’t like the idea of making oneself feel better and taking care of their mind, body and soul? Yet, we have to be careful not to view self-care as a cure-all solution to our problems. Self-care pursued without awareness of your specific needs and consistent evaluation can cause emotional, financial, mental and physical consequences.

According to Zishan Khan, a psychologist with Mindpath Health, self-care can lead to a person becoming overwhelmed (不知所措的) when met with a sea of advice, emerging everywhere from podcasts to self-help books. “So don’t allow what others suggest to cloud your internal voice,” says Khan. “Self-care can only benefit a person if it’s consistent with their goals and values.”

Khan further emphasizes the danger of unregulated physically-centered self-care advice, such as from influencers. “Their content often overly focuses on beauty and improving one’s looks. This can unintentionally lead to body image concerns and thus actually worsen one’s mental health,” she says.

Another danger can come when self-care actions reach the level of obsession or addiction, says Melissa Boudin, a psychologist of Choosing Therapy. “When you spend a large amount of time thinking about or practising a certain self-care behavior, this may be a sign that self-care has gone from beneficial to harmful,” she says, using the example of self-care through healthy eating and then going so far as to develop an eating disorder.

Lena Suarez-Angelino, a licensed clinical social worker, recommends creating a list of activities that make you feel better but don’t overextend you. Worthwhile and beneficial self-care may include anything from time with loved ones to walking. If you can’t really afford to buy dinner for the fifth time this week, that’s not it.

1. What does paragraph 1 mainly suggest?
A.Self-care pursuit needs restricting.
B.Online interaction becomes popular.
C.Awareness of personal needs matters.
D.People attach much attention to self-care.
2. What can do harm to the self-care practice in Zishan Khan’s opinion?
A.Being open to new self-care ideas.
B.Always keeping your goals in mind.
C.Taking up too many responsibilities.
D.Caring too much about others’ advice.
3. Why does Melissa Boudin mention the example about eating in paragraph 5?
A.To prove addiction to self-care actions can be harmful.
B.To warn physically-centered self-care advice is useless.
C.To show how to make yourself feel better in a right way.
D.To tell the reason for people’s worry about others’ views.
4. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A.To introduce the dangers of self-care advice.
B.To encourage us to read more self-help books.
C.To remind us to be cautious to pursue self-care.
D.To discuss some ways to make ourselves better.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了荷兰学生发明的一款新型电动汽车,该电动汽车有助于清除碳排放。

10 . The next time you find yourself in nature, away from the crowded urban environment, take a deep breath of the fresh and clean air. That refreshing breath is made possible by the trees around you.

Today, our cars and machines fill the air with carbon emissions. But scientists imagine a future, where vehicles will clean the air as efficiently as trees do. Euro News reports that the electric car, designed by Dutch students at the Eindhoven University of Technology, is capable of removing a small amount of carbon from the air.

The car’s sporty frame is nearly entirely composed of recycled plastics run through a 3D-printer and the engine is powered by an electric lithium-ion (锂离子) battery. By using 3D printing, the team could produce parts in the exact shape needed, with very little waste. Since nearly 2 billion tires end up in the trash yearly, the students also teamed up with Black Bear Carbon to source recycled black carbon for the tires. Moreover, solar panels fitted to the car’s roof allow it to act as an external solar power source for a house.

According to Reuters, electric vehicles produce near-zero CO2 emissions as they drive. The drawback of these batteries, however, is that the process needed to create the battery cells for electric cars is still highly polluting. To offset the harmful effect of creating the lithium-ion batteries, the team fitted the car with two filters (过滤器), which can capture (捕获) two kilograms of CO2 every 18,000 miles or so. That might not sound like a lot, but the team is confident they can make sure the two filters will capture more CO2.

The team is now on tour in the US to promote their model, which they call ZEM for Zero-Emission Mobility, and to share their vision for the future. They picture electric car charging stations also fitted with the capacity to empty CO2. “Our end goal is to create a more sustainable future,” said Jens Lahaijie, a member of the team that produced the car.

1. What can we know about the electric car?
A.It is a completely 3D printed product.
B.Its design is environmentally-friendly.
C.It is still dependent on traditional fuels.
D.Its task is to protect trees in urban areas.
2. What will the Dutch students do with their electric car?
A.Equip it with more filters and solar panels.
B.Increase its driving speed in a short time.
C.Reduce its dependence on lithium-ion batteries.
D.Improve its filters’ capability of capturing CO2.
3. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A.The electric car hasn’t come to market in the US.
B.Electric car charging stations are common.
C.The future of electric cars turns out uncertain.
D.The electric car model has won great favor.
4. Which of the following can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Carbon Capture Technology Is Used
B.Eco-friendly Cars Are in Great Need
C.An Electric Car Helps to Clean the Air
D.A Sustainable Future Is Shared Together
