China’s first national museum dedicated to scientists will open its doors in Beijing on Thursday. It aims to showcase     1     (significance) achievements of Chinese scientists and promote the spirit of scientific exploration.

One of the museum’s six opening     2     (exhibition) is Return — Exhibition of US-educated Scientists Returning to China in the 1950s, which tells the stories of outstanding scientists     3     returned to China from the United States after the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

The exhibition features 17 US-ducated scientists, including Liang Sili, Qian Xuesen, Deng Jiaxian and Shen Shanjing. The museum also features exhibitions of senior scientists’     4     (academy) materials, a commemoration (纪念活动) of the centenary of Deng’s birth, an exploration of Qian’s motivations     5     a look at engineering culture through industrial heritage.

“Many aspects of our life were created by the older generation     6     scientists. We live in a peaceful era (年代), and we did not experience the history, so we need to understand their stories through exhibitions and history,” said Wang Fei, a guide from the Qian Xuesen Library.

One of the most well-known Europeans to travel the Silk Road in Medieval times was Marco Polo(1245-1324), a merchant (商人), explorer and writer who recorded his travels in the book The Travels of Marco Polo,     1     describes — among other things — Polo’s travels along the Silk Road and the     2     ( vary) Asian regions and cities that he traverses, including China.

A citizen of the Republic of Venice, Polo     3     (grow) up in a family where both his father Niccolo and uncle Maffeo were merchants. Like many young Africans, Jean Philippe N’ Dri’s interest in Kung Fu began with martial arts (武术) movies. During his second year of college, he joined the martial arts club. With the     1     (assist) of the club, he, together with other 5 students,     2     (give) the opportunity to visit the Shaolin Temple in China’s Henan province.

“In it were people     3     (dress) the way they had been in the movies. They were practicing techniques     4     (proper),” N’ Dri said of his first impression of the temple. They underwent three weeks of training, but the first two weeks were really     5     (challenge). It wasn’t just physical training, but also mental toughening. They understood then     6     Shaolin monks (和尚) have such a reputation.

“When I began practicing martial arts, my initial idea was to win in the fight. Now I feel    7     (calm) and more peaceful. I can channel my anger, and     8     (develop) a spirit of sharing. Martial arts have become the backbone of my life,” he said proudly.

With his Kung Fu dream coming true, N’ Dri has set up the Shaolin Training Camp. It is the first     9     its kind in Africa to give the same training he received at the temple to young African people who are not able to go to China     10     still share the same dream.

This is the first cross-provincial ecological restoration project in China,     1     design that is truly paving the way for the future. Green ecology and harmony is the theme and the end result is     2    (absolute) amazing.

    3    (design) by the Tus-Design Group Co. , Ltd, this incredible shoreline linkage project uses the wetlands as part of the design. The Yangtze River is integrated     4     the design as well. The project’s aim is to restore and improve the shoreline, creating a home for native plants, wildlife and people who want to come here and enjoy the natural     5    (beautiful).

Additionally, this design honors the water culture of the Yangtze River. The project was created so as not to disturb the natural patterns of the fish and provide a place for native plants     6    (grow) healthily.

Moreover, there’s a hidden flood control walkway, which combines the shoreline with plants, terrain (地形) and the     7    (exist) surroundings. The walkway is hidden within the environment, which creates an even     8    (dynamic) experience while walking.

Meanwhile, the walking path     9    (surround) by native grasses and plants with beautiful views all around. Ecological pavement leads past watery areas that are perfect for picnicking. There are public spaces everywhere, all of     10     honor nature.

The Chinese Dragon Boat Festival was celebrated with a dragon boat race on Saturday in Cape Town, South Africa.

Also known     1     Duanwu, the festival is a traditional Chinese holiday     2     (observe) on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese calendar.     3     holiday honors Qu Yuan, a poet and politician in the State of Chu during the Warring States Period (475 B. C. — 221 B. C.). He drowned himself in the Miluo River after he was wronged for his well-intended advice to the king. The festival is celebrated with dragon boat races and the     4     (consume) of sticky rice dumplings called zongzi.

This year’s dragon boat race was the second event of     5     (it) kind held in Cape Town, following the success of last year’s celebrations. Set against the background of the beautiful Table Mountain, the race featured 10 teams competing in various     6     (category), including 100-meter, 500-meter and the popular tug-of-war competitions.

Igsaan Salie, chairperson of the Cape Town Dragon Boat Association, said that the dragon boat race     7     (perfect) combined Chinese culture with South African features. “Personally,     8     I have enjoyed most about dragon boating is seeing 20 people     9     (face) the same direction working toward a united goal,” Salie said. “It is a great team sport and an opportunity for us     10     (enjoy) the natural beauty of Cape Town while being on the water.”
