What does a horse see when it looks into a mirror? Can it recognize itself? It turns out     1     horses may be able to do just that, according to research published in the journal Animal Cognition.

Researchers at the University of Pisa in Italy     2     (perform) an experiment in     3     they put a large mirror in an indoor arena (竞技场) and let 14 horses loose in the space. At first, all the horses treated their reflection (映像) as though it     4     (be) another horse. Some tried to play with the “other horse”, said Paolo Baragli, a team member. After a while, 11 horses started checking behind the mirror and watching their reflections as they moved. Everyone has their dreams. Some people want to be rich, dreaming of becoming millionaires overnight. Others want to be famous, dreaming of suddenly jumping to great fame. I have a dream, too. When I was     1     young girl, I dreamed of becoming a scientist like Hua Luogeng,     2     was a great Chinese mathematician.

However, I knew that I could not     3    (success) without great efforts. So I studied hard in middle school and college in order to realize my dream.

Well-known Chinese writer, translator and foreign literature researcher Yang Jiang passed away at the age of 105 on May 25, 2016. But four years later, people from all walks of life are still expressing their respect to her by     1    (post) Yang’s photos and quotes on the Internet.

Why is Yang still respected by people today?

It’s mainly for “her devotion     2     the career of translation and writing”, noted The Paper. Having studied in the UK and France, Yang was fluent both in English and French. But after considering several English and French     3    (translation) of the Spanish classic Don Quixote(《唐·吉诃德》) unsuitable, she started learning Spanish at the age of 48. With such a     4    (care) attitude, Yang only translated about 500 words at a time when most translators can translate as many as 2,000 words or so a day. Apart from her translation achievement, Yang is famous for her prose(散文) and dramas. She published Six Chapters of My Life(《干校六记》) in 1981,     8     recorded her difficult time when working in the countryside during the 1970s, and published Baptism(《洗澡》) in 1988.
