1 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

I was not sure why my dad and my uncle always disagreed with each other in the beginning. They spent many Sundays sitting at opposite ends of the table, arguing about everything. I didn’t think they got along well.

When I was eighteen, I got a call in my college dorm that my dad was having a health problem. My mom picked me up at midnight, so I could be there the next day when my dad was scheduled to transfer(转移) to a better hospital. I didn’t sleep that night, not a while. I was nervous and almost crazy when we arrived at the hospital early the next morning before the transfer.

That morning, as my mom and I walked down the hallway of the hospital, we could see straight into my dad’s room. A tall man wearing a stylish suit stood beside my father’s bed with his back to us. In surprise, my mom said to me, “How nice it is for a doctor to come by to see your dad so early in the morning.” The man was quiet and still, looking down, but he was holding both of my dad’s hands in his own. It seemed not to be a typical doctor’s behavior.

“It’s not a doctor,” I whispered softly to my mom. When the man turned around, we found that it was my uncle. However, little did I know I would continue to reflect on that quiet moment for decades. And it would be the beginning of something truly wonderful.

The hours that followed were some of the most hardest time of my youth. My dad had a serious stomach problem and had to be in hospital for quite a long time. My uncle stayed with us the entire time. For one thing, my uncle tried every way to get my dad to eat something. For another thing, he brought me healthy snacks and made sure I actually ate them even though I had no appetite. When my mother and I were scared that my dad’s illness would get worse, my uncle was always by our side.

2 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写一段话,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Holidays are not necessarily for fun or rest. Doing something meaningful can also gain special pleasure. When the final bell rang, the students were reminded that there was no school on Monday—the Labor Day. “Enjoy your extra day off” said the teacher to her class.

An extra day off unsuited Kayla just fine. She loved breaks. She wanted to go out to play with her friends. When the school bus dropped Kayla off, she ran into the house happily.

“How was school, Kayla?” asked her mom.

“It was great, Mom. I am excited about no school on Monday.”

“You just started back to school two weeks ago. Already in need of a break, huh?” asked Kayla’s mom with a laugh.

Kayla slept in the next morning. Saturday was her favorite day of the week. I trained most of the day, so Kayla enjoyed playing videogames inside. On Sunday, her friends came over and they played basketball for several hours.

Then it was Labor Day, you know, the extra day off that Kayla was so looking forward to. But Kayla was awakened early that morning by her dad. He told Kayla that in honor of Labor Day, the family would be cleaning both inside and outside the house. Kayla couldn’t believe it. This was a holiday. A day when she was supposed to be enjoying freshly squeezed lemonade while playing in her tree house. As Kayla wiped here yes, she began to wonder if this was just a bad dream.

“Kayla, your breakfast is ready. We have a lot of work to do today. Let’s get a move on,” said Kayla’s mom. As she sat down at the kitchen table, Kayla asked her parents,

“Are you serious about working today? Isn’t Labor Day a holiday?”

“Yes, Kayla. It is,” replied her dad. “But your mom and I thought working hard today would make you appreciate why Labor Day was observed in the first place.”

3 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

“I have to be home earlier than all my friends,” my teenage son, Jordan, said. “I’ m seventeen years old, and I still have a curfew(宵禁). Legally, I’m practically an adult.”

“You’re not an adult,” I said. “You’re still in high school.” “None of my friends had a curfew. You don’t trust me.” “It’s not about trust,” I said. “It’s about wanting what’s best for you. I want to protect you.” “Protect me from what? Having fun?”

I sighed. How could I make Jordan see that I only wanted the best for him? I decided to go for a walk. I opened the front door and nearly stepped on him: a small black cat with a white-tipped tail. “Hi, Meatball,” I said, scooping him into my arms. “Are you ready to come back inside?”

Meatball usually seemed happy enough to come in the house, but after an hour or two, he sat by the door, meowing to go back outside. “Why won’t he just stay in with us all the time?” Nathan asked. “Because he’s used to living outside,” I said.

Jordan’s curfew had become an ongoing discussion that rarely ended well for either of us. I decided to ignore his comment. Thankfully, he didn’t say anything else.

One night in January, temperatures were usually low. Meatball stood at the door, meowing to go outside. “It’ s too cold out there, Bud,” I said. “You’ll freeze.” He stared at me and meowed again. “Mom’s not being mean to you,” Nathan told the cat. “She’s just trying to keep you from turning into a frozen Meatball.” We both laughed at his joke.

The next morning, I couldn’t find Meatball. Jordan said, “I let him out last night.” It took me several minutes to find him curled in a tiny ball beneath my husband’s car. I picked him up, unsure if he was alive or dead. While I called the vet, Jordan warmed towels in the dryer and wrapped them around Meatball.

“I’m sorry, Buddy,” I heard him say over and over again. “Mom was right. Even though you didn’t want to, I should have made you stay inside where it was safe.”

注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;

Sally had been playing football all summer. She really enjoyed running after the black and white ball across the grassy field with the other players in her bright orange uniform.

Before each game, they had a practice session. The coach showed her and her team how to pass the ball to each other and take shots at the goal. She was pretty good at passing the ball, but every time she got a chance to kick the ball to the goal, it would be stopped by a player from the other team or be caught by the goalkeeper. Now the football season was almost over and she still had not scored one single goal. She really felt discouraged and wondered if she should quit football and join a different club.

“After all, I am a girl. I was not born for such a rough game,” Sally told herself. “I will try another club.” She even daydreamed that she was a member of the hip hop club and she was dancing on stage in a big auditorium with thousands of people cheering for her. She also thought about joining a different sport, like jogging or cycling. Anyway, football would be her last choice.

“Don’t give up. No one is born for the game. Use your advantage,” the coach said after Sally told him her doubt during a break between the sessions. “Most important of all, believe yourself. You can do it.”

Sally was not totally convinced but she did want to have a try. When the break was over, the coach blew his whistle to start the game again. The two teams walked back onto the field, both determined to win. Sally bent down to tie up her shoes and repeated what the coach had said in her mind. “Use your advantage. Believe yourself. You can do it.”

Every Sunday, Grandma and I walked to the Children’s home a few blocks away from our house. Grandma always brings a home-made cake to these children, who are of different nationalities and ages. Some are refugees (难民)who cannot talk in English, some are even disabled.

First we visit John, who is from Brazil. I call him “Football genius”. He plays football so well that he organized a football team to help other kids develop football skills, such as passing and ball control. Every time we reached the playground, we saw a group of sweaty kids running around a field with bright smiles.

Next we visit Daisy. I call her “The singer” because she has a great gift for singing. She loves to sing songs for us. Wherever she stays, her soft and sweet voice fills the air.

Then we visit David. I call him “Prince(王子)Joke”. He can do talk show, cross-talk(相声),tell jokes. Sometimes he laughs loudly while telling jokes, we could see his legs shaking up and down, his face turning red. Grandma and I can’t help laughing along with him.

One day, Grandma fell ill and had to stay in bed. She was in a low spirit and couldn’t move.

Sunday came. Grandma put my hand into her hand and told me “Rose given fragrance(芳香)in hand.” I understood what she meant, I bought a cake from shop and went to children’s home. Everyone was happy lo see me. They were disappointed when they didn’t see grandma. Knowing grandma was sick, they were sad. They prayed together for grandma’s recovery. After a while, I said goodbye to everyone.

A week later, grandma was still lying in bed. She could not walk or speak, what she could do was drink some milk. I begged her to go to hospital. She shook her head. I hid myself under the big tree in our yard so Grandma wouldn’t see tears on my cheeks.

Jenny and Lisa are close friends. They’re studying in high school now. One day about half a year ago, Jenny went to Lisa’s house after she finished her homework.

After entering Lisa’s home, Jenny found that Lisa was chatting on her cell phone. Jenny was surprised as she didn’t know Lisa had gone downtown to buy a cell phone.

After Lisa finished talking over the cell phone Jenny asked her, “When did you get your cell phone?”

“I bought it yesterday. Look! How lovely it looks!” said Lisa. Jenny looked at the cell phone. It was pink and looked really lovely. Jenny wished she also could have such a cell phone that day, after Jenny came back home. She saw her father sitting on the sofa reading a newspaper Jenny approached him and said, “Dad, could I have a cell phone? Many of my classmates have their own cell phones now.” “Of course, you can have one,” said Jenny’s father.

Hearing that, Jenny became very happy. “Thank you, Dad,” Jenny said happily. Then she asked, “when shall we go downtown to buy one?” The father looked up. Then he said, “Oh, no, dear! I’m not going to buy you a cell phone. If you really want one, you should make money to buy one yourself.” Jenny immediately became upset. But she knew her father was serious. She walked away and went to her own room. The following day, Jenny went to school as usual. When Lisa saw her at school, she looked a bit upset. Lisa came to her and asked why she was wearing a long face that day. Jenny said, “I asked my dad to buy a cell phone for me, but he said I should work for one myself.”

But Lisa didn’t seem to be surprised at all, and she said, “Don’t get surprised, because that’s how I bought my own cell phone.” Hearing that, Jenny remembered Lisa once told her she was helping to look after the Smiths’ one-year-old son in the past summer. Now she knew why she worked part-time that summer. Lisa wanted a new cell phone and she worked to make money for it.

8 . 阅读下面短文,根据其内容和段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Fifteen years ago, I was born in a big family. I had been taught that money couldn't buy everything ever since I was a little kid. My parents are the most hard-working people I have ever seen. As much as my parents tried to teach me these values, some could only be learned through personal experiences.

As a child, I would sit in the church trying to concentrate on the words of the priest (牧师), but my attention was soon attracted by the shining gold and the diamonds worn by the Saturday churchgoers. As my eyes began to wander, I noticed men dressed in their tailored suits and shirts accompanied by women in their designer dresses with matching handbags and shoes.

My family, on the other hand, was the opposite of rich. Our hand-me-down clothes had been washed so many times that the colors had become dull and lifeless. Although this revealed the money struggles of our large family, our faces were always washed and hair neatly combed. When sitting on the old big red and white truck after the service, I pictured the lives led by those driving their brand-new cars, wishing I would be one of them.

I never stopped those fantasies, even when I was in middle school. Since it was a private school, most of the children came from wealthy families. As a result, I constantly felt ashamed. Although I could hide my lack of wealth at school by wearing our school uniforms, my poverty was embarrassingly apparent on weekends with my classmates wearing designer jeans and I had no choice but to wear my sisters’ old jeans. I never fitted in with my classmates. To my relief, there was only one girl named Julie who opened her heart to me. I was attached to her like a shadow. Soon, her birthday was approaching. Julie invited me to attend her birthday party.

We often see bullies(恃强凌弱者) on television shows. They like to give people a hard time for no reason at all. They call people names, take their things and make them feel scared over and over again. Bullying can also happen in real life, especially at school.

What caused the bullying? There are many reasons that can cause a child to become a bully. If a child is bullied by his or her parents, that child likely to imitate this behavior at school, according to The Huffington Post. In addition, a child who has been given too much power at home is also likely to become a bully. The child may believe he or she has the right to bully others at school because he or she is treated like an emperor at home. Some children are also said to become bullies because he have been influenced by violent films and games .They are said to be too young to tell between right and wrong.

School bullying can have a great influence on someone’s life Xi Leng (not her real name) was bullied during her early days at school. Even though she turned 20 this year, she is still affected badly by her experiences during her terrible time at primary school. “I really struggled every day back then, and even thought about killing myself,” Xi wrote on Zhihu, a question-and-answer website, remembering how her books were covered with graffiti(涂鸦), and her name was deliberately changed on her homework before it reached the teachers.

In order to solve the problem of school bullying, guidelines were released on Nov 1 by nine government departments, including the Ministry of Education and the Supreme People’s art(最高人民法院). For example, schools have been told to make students more aware of bullying, to inform students about its consequences and to teach them to protect themselves. In addition, students who have serious problems with their behavior may now be sent to special schools.
