1 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

A young boy, named Timmy, lived in a small town. He disliked doing any work; he found it boring and would always come up with a reason to avoid it. His room was always messy with toys thrown everywhere, socks under the bed. Books and clothes piled up like a small mountain. Homework often remained untouched on the desk, buried under comic books and game controllers.

Timmy avoided chores, finding them less exciting than his digital universe. Day and night, Timmy tapped buttons, lost in virtual battles, his eyes glued to the screen. Socializing means chatting with fellow games online rather than meeting friends outside.

One Saturday morning, Timmy’s mom asked him to clean up his room. Timmy frowned and ignored his mom, diving deeper into his video game. His mother sighed and went on with her chores. That afternoon, as Timmy was standing by the window, he noticed his neighbor, Mr. Jenkins, working tirelessly in his garden, repairing the wooden fence (栅栏).

At the sight of Timmy, Mr. Jenkins smiled and called out, “Hey, Timmy, I need a helper to hold the wooden strips (木条). And could you lend me a hand for a moment?” Hesitantly, Timmy walked over. Mr. Jenkins showed him how to do it. He continued to help do gardening work such as watering and weeding(除草) in the garden. As they worked, Mr. Jenkins shared his adventurous stories when he was a soldier, and Timmy listened with respect.

Hours passed, and to Timmy’s surprise, he enjoyed helping out. His hands were dirty, but he felt delighted and meaningful. As they finished, Mr. Jenkins thanked Timmy and showed him the result of their teamwork: a neat garden full of colorful flowers and fresh greenery. Timmy felt proud and realized that work could be fun and rewarding.

Our teacher then started the lesson, which was about first aid. She asked if anyone knew anything about it. Silence filled the classroom. As a daughter of two doctors, I had leaned CPR (心肺复苏) before. Ruby. ” Ruby stopped, looking at me like I was her enemy.

Ruby and her friends made trouble for me at every chance they got. One day, when I was walking home from school, someone tripped (绊倒) me from behind and I fell. That gave me a bleeding nose. When I got up, I found Ruby laughing wildly with two of her friends. The anger in me was fighting to get out but some how I got it contained, which made Ruby laugh even louder. It was the beginning of spring and Lucy was in the backyard with her grandchild, Jack. Jack was playing soccer when Lucy asked, “I'm going to start planting my garden. Do you want to help me?”

“What are you going to plant, Granny?” asked Jack. “I like big, yellow sunflowers.”

“I'm going to plant vegetables. That way we can have them to eat when they are ready,” Lucy replied.

“How long does that take?” asked Jack. He sometimes liked vegetables, especially carrots.

“It will take a few months before anything is ready to eat, ”Lucy answered. Jack was surprised.

“Months? Why would you do all that work and then have to wait so long?” Jack said. “You should just go to the store and buy them.”

“Be patient, my dear! Don't you know food always tastes best when you grow it yourself?” Lucy said. “And if you come to help, it won't be too much work.”

“I’ll help you, Granny, ”offered Jack. He put down the soccer and went to look at the gardening tools Lucy had prepared.

Lucy taught Jack how to use a trowel (铲) to dig small rows for the seeds. Then, Lucy showed Jack how to place the seeds into each hole and how to cover the holes with soil. Lastly, Jack wrote the names of the vegetables on sticks that Lucy pushed into the ground. “This way we can remember which vegetable seeds we planted, ”Lucy explained.

Once everything was planted, Jack filled the watering can so that Lucy could make the soil nice and wet for the seeds to start to grow.

“Now we just water them a little bit every day, and with time and sunlight, we'll have delicious things to eat in the summer, ”Lucy said. They had never been so excited for summer before.

5 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

I lost all my hair at age 2 due to alopecia (脱发). Though all I can do was fit in when growing up, I would look at all the beautiful girls I was surrounded by at schools and in the media and think if I had hair, I would be beautiful, too.

I wore a wig (假发) and was often laughed at for it. They called me “bald (光秃的)”. I had no choice but just to let them laugh at me, because I know it was the fact. I felt like I deserved it, as if losing my hair was somehow my fault.

When I came to the senior high school, I still wasn’t okay with my alopecia and avoided talking about it. I was expecting a huge change, and I extremely wanted to be like everyone else. I kept my alopecia a secret and was fearful of telling anyone about it.

I remembered one day I built up the courage to tell a girl about my alopecia. Hesitating for a long time, I finally stammered (结结巴巴地说), “I have no hair because of alopecia.” She was shocked because I hid it so well. “I can’t have a date with someone who doesn’t have hair,” she said in a low voice. Disappointed and heart-broken, I turned around and walked away. From then on, I shut down, never wanting to let anyone know my alopecia again. I continued to wear my wig no matter what the weather was and what I was doing. It was my security and way to hide from the world.

Sports became my escape, though. I was fortunate to have inborn athletic ability. I would race home and play basketball for hours every day. I would pretend to make the game-winning shot when I was playing. I had big dreams. I did not think about my alopecia during these moments, but think who I wanted to become and what I wanted to accomplish.

6 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

An old and fragile woman approached a very busy road intersection. She stepped slowly forwards. She paused at the sidewalk’s edge, grasping a heavy bucket filled with fresh red apples. She aimed to cross the street.

The way to the intersection before her seemed like a tough journey. The traffic lights changed regularly, and the flow of cars seemed to be non-stop for the old woman. She knew she had to cross the street to reach her destination, a small grocery store on the other side, where she sold her apples to make ends meet.

As she slowly made her way to the crosswalk, she held the handle of the bucket. A kind-hearted driver in the first car, recognizing her struggle, stopped well before the sidewalk, allowing her to cross safely. Grateful for this act of kindness, the old woman nodded and offered the driver a slight smile as she inched forward.

A second car, in the next road, also came to a stop. Its driver also witnessed the old woman’s slow progress. The kindness of strangers warmed her heart, and with their help, she moved another step closer to her destination.

However, the third road was a different story. As the old woman moved carefully further into the road, a speeding car approached, its engine making loud sound like a beast. Panic flowed through the old lady as she realized the approaching danger. The driver of the third car had not noticed her until the very last moment.

With a jolt (颠簸) of terror, the old woman’s holding on the bucket weakened, and the bucket slipped from her weak grasp. The bucket fell to the ground, releasing its goods of apples, which scattered (散开) in all directions. The sound of the crashing bucket and rolling apples echoed through the busy city traffic.

In the emergent time, the driver of the speeding car stepped on the brake to a stop just inches from the old woman. The drivers’ heart pounded in their chest as they realized how close it had come to a tragedy.

I went to sleep with my mouth open and I woke up with a sore throat. The medicine I took was expired (过期的) and my mom was forcing me to go to the doctor because she was worried that it would make me ill. When I went to brush my teeth, there was no toothpaste left and as I was trying to squeeze anything left in the tube. The toothpaste splattered (洒) all over my face and my school uniform. I washed my hair last night thinking I’d have time to straighten it in the morning, but because of the toothpaste incident I didn’t have enough of time to do anything to it at all. Now my hair was curly and I was in sweatpants (运动裤).

On my way to school, there was an accident holding up traffic on the one-way only street to my high school. That day was my first day of high school, and also my birthday. You might be wondering: Wait… It’s really your birthday? Then how come you didn’t mention your parents wishing you a happy birthday that morning? All are very good questions. I didn’t mention it because it never happened. My own parents forgot my birthday.

Maybe this day would get better. On my way to the classroom, I tripped up on the stairs and scraped (擦伤) my knee. I saw some students pull their phones out to capture the embarrassing moment. As the bell rang, in came the teacher. She asked us to introduce ourselves. Soon, it was my turn. Facing the new classmates, I found my legs trembling and my heart beating fast. Worse still, my mind totally went blank and my throat seemed to get blocked. Needless to say, roars of laughter filled the classroom. I fled from the platform with discomposure (狼狈). Not until this class was dismissed did the awful feeling fade away.

When I was about ten years old, my brother and I received a great gift—a basketball. But the problem was there wasn’t a basketball court (球场) near our home.

One Saturday morning, my brother came up with a good idea. He said, “Hey, let’s take our ball to the school to play.”

I thought it was a great idea, so I agreed. When we arrived at the school, we started playing. But suddenly, something terrible happened. The ball got out of control and hit through one of the classroom windows, breaking the glass into pieces. We looked around and saw that nobody was there, except for an old man sitting nearby.

I whispered to my brother, “What should we do now?”

“Well,” my brother replied, “Nobody saw us, except for that old man. But he probably can’t see this far, and he doesn’t know who we are anyway.”

As we got the ball and started going home, we talked about whether we should tell Mom and Dad what had happened. Would we get punished for our mistake? Or should we just keep it a secret? We thought about these things again and again on our way home.

Delia Henderson had always had a dream. She dreamed of taking part in the “Dance World Cup”. It was a famous dance talent show which attracted the best dancers around the world. She was promised by her father that someday she would be taken for an audition (试演) .

The night of her 14th birthday, her city was hit by an earthquake, which, unfortunately, hurt one of her legs terribly. She survived, but the doctor told her that she had to learn to walk with a wooden leg for the rest of her life.

Two years later, Delia saw a notice one day, saying that auditions of the “Dance World Cup” would be held in her city. Painful memories flashed through her mind. It hurt her that she couldn’t live her dream because of her injured leg. However, her mother said, “You learned to walk with your injured leg, so why not learn to dance with it?”

Delia knew it was true but walking was hard, and dancing would be harder. On top of that, she didn’t want to be seen as a joke on the stage. So she told her mother and herself that it was time to say goodbye to her dream.

Her father, however, never forgot his promise to Delia. He signed her up for the show and since he wasn’t sure whether his daughter could get an audition, he did not say a single word to her about the whole thing. Until one day, he got the reply. It was a “Yes”. Excitedly, he took the news to Delia, but she was determined not to go.

Aware of Delia’s worry, her father slowly walked up to her.
