1 . 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

I arrived at the pool hall on Wednesday with a heavy heart. Teams from other schools were already suited and warming up by the pool or in the water. The bleachers (露天看台) were full.

“I don’t think I can do this.” I said, twisting the belt of my bag.

“You’ll be fine, and I will be right here watching.” Mom said, dropping an arm around my shoulder and squeezing.

I bit my lip and looked out over the other swimmers. “You sure?”

Mom leaned forward. “Remember, it’s just you. Don’t worry about any of the other swimmers. Just swim your race.”

“OK.”

The warmups and preparations were over before I knew it, and the first round of swimmers were up on the blocks.

I felt sick. I watched my competitors swim, and they looked so strong and skillful in the water. The events screamed by, one after the other. My knees shook as each event clicked closer to mine. The knots in my stomach twisted and coiled like a bag of ropes.

Then the one-hundred breaststroke (蛙泳) was announced.

Nerves choked my throat.

“Just swim your race. Don’t think about the other swimmers.” I repeated it over and over in my mind.

I bent forward on my block in line with the rest of the swimmers, waiting. My body tensed up like a spring. My heart pounded in my ears.

The buzzer (蜂鸣器) sounded. I sprang forward, diving into the water and kicking like a dolphin. Then my head broke free of the water. Just count strokes. I kept my eyes focused on the black line in front of me, ignoring the splashes of movement on either side. Pull. Breathe. Kick. I hit the end of the pool and then my first turn came. I took a deep a breath and turned over, pushing hard against the wall and bursting back the way I came.

2 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Henry was a college student at UC Santa Cruz. For years, he had been saving up to buy a decent used car. He had a part-time job at a local coffee shop. He repainted a room in his neighbor’s house in his free time. He had an internship (实习) at a software company. He saved a lot: Christmas money, birthday money, a penny here, a penny there.

While Henry worked to buy a car, Hua Kuan had a car to sell. Kuan was born and lived in Mexico for about 13 years. His parents had immigrated there from China.

In Mexico, he didn’t really grow up in a very nice area. He had to work when he was young, a lot of restaurant work—cleaning dishes, bussing tables.

Kuan’s family headed north to California in the late 1990s. A few years later, he was awarded a full scholarship to UC Berkeley. During Kuan’s junior year, his proud parents bought him a first car.

Kuan’s parents were blue-collar workers, and worked very hard for their money. They bought the car for their son, which was the only gift they were able to provide for him. And Kuan had been driving that car since it was brand new for about 14 years.

However, Kuan is a 35-year-old dentist now. His friends convinced him to upgrade his ride, so he listed his beloved car for sale on Craigslist. By chance, Henry saw the ad for the black car with gold wheels and over 150,000 miles. However, it was priced at $7000. He fell in love with the car the first time he saw it, and thought it just might be the one. Although it was a little bit over his budget, he determined to take a chance.

3 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写一段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

“I hate you!” I shouted, as I ran up the stairs to my room. Throwing open my dresser drawers, I pulled out a clean T-shirt and jeans, threw them in my backpack and ran back down the steps. Mom and Dad stood there, looking like they were in shock.

“Where are you going?” Mom asked.

“Anywhere but here,” I shouted as I ran out the door. They weren’t fast enough to hold me, and I disappeared into the night. It was cold, but my hot temper(脾气) warmed me, and I didn’t feel it.

I hit the streets with my thumb(拇指) out. A free ride wasn’t safe, but I didn’t care. Deep down inside, I knew my parents loved me, but it wasn’t enough. I slept on a park bench the first night I took off. It was hard as a rock, and I was surprised to find that I wasn’t alone. Pecking through half-closed eyes, I could see other homeless people just like me, only they looked like they’d been there a long, long time.

By the end of the second day, I’d made my way to another city sixty-five miles away where I found a halfway house for runaways. I was tired, cold and hungry. By the time I got there, the kitchen was closed. All that was left on the table was a cold potato. I lifted it to my lips and bit into the skin. It was dry and stuck in my throat when I tried to eat it up. That night I slept on a small bed in a room with four other runaways. It wasn’t a whole lot better than the park.

Three days later, my dad showed up at the front door of the halfway house. I don’t know how he found out I was there, but part of me was glad he did, though I wouldn’t admit it out loud. After gathering my few things, we drove home in silence. I could see by the look on his face that he felt responsible for all my anger and sadness. I regretted shouting at my parents the night I ran away.

2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

4 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写一段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Adam, 8, and Peter, 10, played at the seaside with their mom every day. Every single day, they would come across an old man who would sit quietly on a chair, watching the waves.

One day, the brothers approached him. For some reason, the old man who always avoided people started a long conversation with the two boys and introduced himself as Walter Bridgeton. After a while, Peter finally asked the question they had been longing to ask: “Sir, why do you sit out here every day?”

“Well, I have been waiting here for my brother, James, for 10 years. We were in the army together and then were sent to different countries. This happened a long time ago. When we last saw each other, we promised to meet right here, where we used to walk with our mother,” the old man explained.

“How do you know he’s still coming?” Adam asked.

“That’s the thing. I don’t know. They gave me his army dog tags(军籍身份牌), but they never found him. He is still missing,” he said. The old man patted the boys’ heads and said, “Look after your brother, boys.”

The boys enjoyed his company ever since that day, and they were also surprised to know they lived near each other. Deeply moved by Walter’s story, the brothers decided to use social media to spread it, hoping to find his brother. One day, they went to the beach to tell him about what they did, but didn’t find him at his usual spot. “Something must have happened. Let’s go to his house now,” Peter said.

5 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

I was born in a small village in the mountainous province of Lao Cai in Vietnam. In my poverty-stricken small village, girls hardly had the chance to complete their education. But I was lucky. I was born into a family where my parents supported our education. As one of the very few families that could afford all children to continue to study till high school, my parents faced a lot of negative opinions from our neighbors.

I was not always there for the criticism, however, as I lived in boarding schools for ethnic minority (少数民族) children. There were a lot of girls and boys from different ethnic groups in our schools. In these second homes, I learned from teachers and friends and most importantly, I was trained to live independently and with confidence. And this gave me the motivation to try harder every day.

In 2017, I came to Hanoi, the capital city, as a first-year student at the University of Languages and International Studies. It was a life-changing experience for me. I was thrilled at the fact that the students here were so bright and brilliant. The world became much bigger for me — far different from my small town. “Where are you from? Are you an ethnic minority?” Those were the frequent questions I had from my classmates at the beginning. At first, I was afraid of those questions and then I realized that when I began to talk openly about my culture, I was warmly received.

It goes without saying that confidence grows in a nurturing (滋养的) environment. Again, I found myself lucky. Slowly I started to engage in school activities and after some time, I volunteered for community activities.

6 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

It was cool and bright and just right for running. I was in the first few miles of a 10-mile race through some hills. Birds were singing on the trees. The soft wind was brushing my cheeks. I felt rested and springy. Despite the hills, I thought it was going to be a fine run.

Ahead was Blake, a student from Burke High School. He was running easily, too, moving along efficiently. The pace felt comfortable, so I decided to stay where he was; why bother concentrating on pace when Blake was such a nice pacesetter for me? I would overtake Blake later on when he used up energy.

So I ran closely behind him. The course headed north for five miles, wandered west for a mile, and then turned south again. The race was getting tougher. With three miles to go, it was beginning to be real hard work. My lungs were on fire, and legs felt like stone.

Blake overtook the boy in front of him. Apparently he knew the boy, for they exchanged a few words. Their brief communication worried me. Runners don’t chat during a race unless they feel really good, and Blake plainly was. There was still a noticeable bounce in his steps, but the springiness I had once possessed was gone.

Still, I was close enough to overtake Blake if he was tired, so I didn’t give up hope completely. We were approaching a hill, a mile from the finish line, so whatever happened on the hill would almost certainly determine who crossed it first.

As I moved up the hill, my attention wandered for a few minutes. When I looked up, Blake was moving away, first five yards, then ten, then more. There was no hope of catching Blake.

Suddenly Blake slowed and sat onto the ground painfully.

Helen was a young girl. Her parents taught her to be kind, and she always was. And she lived a happy life. Unluckily, one day, her mother had an accident. Her right leg was hurt badly and needed an expensive operation.

Her family couldn’t afford to pay for it. Although their friends and relatives all tried their best to offer help but it was far from enough. And they were unsure what to do next.

One day, walking down the street to a bookstore nearby, Helen noticed an old man trying hard to climb the steps to a nearby park. The old man with Alzheimer’s disease (阿尔茨海默氏症)left home days ago and ended up wandering around the streets while his son, Dr. Smith, a doctor of the City Hospital, had been trying to find him but in vain.

“He can’t climb the steps. He looks so weak. ” Helen said to-herself. Without hesitation, she ran over to him.

“Sir, let me help you!”

The man made no response, then Helen repeated it. Slowly raising his head, the man looked at her, surprised. Helen gave him a smile and then helped him climb the steps. “Your hands are shaking!” Helen said anxiously. “Are you okay?”

“I’m so hungry, ” he murmured. “I want to walk… to the park for… a rest. ” After helping him sit on a park bench, Helen rushed home and returned with some food, only to find the man was lying on the ground, unconscious. “Sir, please wake up!” she cried in anxiety. “‘What should I do?” she wondered.

9 . 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

Erika and the Necklace

Erika and her little sister Beth sneaked into their mommy’s room. “I’m just going to try on some jewelry,” said Erika. She took a necklace and tried to put it on her neck. “Oh, no,” said Beth. “Mommy doesn’t like us playing with her stuff.” “Okay, you be the lookout,” instructed Erika. “Stand by the door and let me know if Mommy comes up the stairs.”

Before Beth got to the door, Bouncer, the family’s Bernedoodle dog, bounded into the room and almost knocked Erika down. The necklace went flying. It had barely hit the floor when Bouncer bit it and raced off.

“Bouncer! Bouncer!” yelled Erika. “Beth, help me get the necklace back.” The girls were hot on Bouncer’s tail. “Stop!” they yelled. Bouncer dashed down the stairs and into the living room. He stopped just long enough for the girls to get close to him. Then of he went. “Stop!” yelled Erika. “Beth, you go the other way. We’ll corner him in the dining room.”

Erika met Beth in the dining room. Sure enough, Bouncer was there waiting for them. He was down low on his front legs with his tail in the air, ready to play. “Grab him!” screamed Erika.

Just as Beth was about to grab him, Bouncer took off. He whizzed (嗖地移动) by Beth and Erika. “Stop, you troublemaker!” yelled Erika as she raced after him. The girls were getting close again, but Bouncer zoomed down the basement stairs. The girls raced after him. “I don’t see him,” said Beth. Erika scratched her head. “He’s got to be down here. He’s hiding.”

Just then Mom called to the girls. “Erika, what’s all the noise? What’s wrong? I heard you from the yard.” “Uh, oh,” whispered Erika. “Uh.. nothing’s wrong,” she shouted.

Beth dashed up the stairs. Erika heard her telling Mom everything. “That blabber mouth (多嘴的人),” said Erika under her breath.

10 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文,续写词数应为150左右。

After I stepped into the school library, I went straight to the shelves filled with books at once. It was break time and I had dropped by the library to borrow a book. Just as I was looking through some books, a girl in my class, Alice, came up to me. Alice was a pain in the neck as she would often make fun of others. That day, Alice laughed at me about my deepest secret -that I had come last in class in the mid-year examinations.

I blushed(脸红)hotly in shame. At the same time, I became extremely angry. My best friend, Lynn, was the only one who knew my secret. How could she betray(背叛)me?

My anger grew as thoughts about my friendship with Lynn flashed through my mind. We had been good friends since Primary 1. We hung out together, studied together and stayed up till the early hours of the morning to exchange our dreams. We were closer than sisters. When she needed a shoulder to cry on, I would be there. How could she do this to me? I was so mad that I could not control myself.

Brushing aside Alice’s taunts(嘲弄), I stormed to the place where Lynn usually went - the school field. Lynn looked at me with a welcoming smile on her face. The sight of her treacherous(背信弃义的)face made me mad and crazy.

“How could you do this to me? I thought we were friends!” I shouted at Lynn. “I hate you!”

A look of bewilderment(迷茫)crossed her face as she said,

“Wha ... What’s wrong? What did I do?”

Lynn cried out but I was cold and I didn’t show any kindness to her at all. I told her, “You are no longer my friend!”

And then I stormed away and returned to the library to calm myself down.
