That afternoon, school over, Simon flew home like a rabbit. After having finished counting the few dollars in his piggy bank, he asked his mother to take him to the flower shop nearby.
When they got in the car, Simon explained to his mother what he would do. Having understood the whole story, his mother looked at him with a loving expression.
The following day, Simon arrived at his classroom with a bunch of flowers and presented it to Ms. Jenkins with a bright smile. “I know you’re not a mother, but you treat us with kindness, affection and patience. The hours that followed were some of the most hardest time of my youth. My dad had a serious stomach problem and had to be in hospital for quite a long time. My uncle stayed with us the entire time. For one thing, my uncle tried every way to get my dad to eat something. For another thing, he brought me healthy snacks and made sure I actually ate them even though I had no appetite. When my mother and I were scared that my dad’s illness would get worse, my uncle was always by our side.

Mrs Cane pulled out a ring of keys from her pocket and unlocked a door. She turned on the light, which shone brightly overhead. The kids placed their books on the dusty table and reluctantly (不情愿地) climbed into the chairs. Brian and Josie shrugged (耸肩) and opened their books, finally focusing on the project at hand.
Time was ticking away. After what seemed like hours, Brian and Josie decided to take a break and when Josie opened the door of the room, Brian’s eyes opened wide. The library was completely dark. Looking at his watch, he let out a gasp. “It’s 9:30! The library closed an hour ago!”

Tad wanted to help his friend to make it all better but he knew his help was limited, so he needed to seek help from other people or organisations. He knew that Charely always loved dogs. The young man used all his skills to prepare the feast using the onions. All the empire’s ministers, the nobility and senior officials were invited to the dinner that night. After the young man did the initial tasting, the feast began. Then, everyone in the room started eating the food. It didn’t take long for the hall to get into a great noise of excitement. All praised the smell and the taste of the food. The emperor thanked the young man a lot, demanded all of the onions, and paid him its weight in gold.
On his journey back home, the young man met a trader. For hours that night, the young man told what he had seen in that faraway land, where gold was worth less than onions. He also told the trader that he learned that the country did not have garlic (大蒜). The trader was excited.
