文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,主要讲的是如何变得有创造力。

1 . How to Be Creative

Most of us think that creativity is a quality (品质) belonging only to artists, writers, or dancers, rather than ourselves.     1     The following tips are a great beginning for developing our creativity.

Get out of your comfort zone

We eagerly accept the familiar and fear the unknown. Break out of your usual patterns and welcome creativity into your life. As said earlier, the human brain was designed to recognize patterns.     2     In fact, our comfort zone is nothing more than a collection of patterns. As we become more efficient at recognizing and using patterns, we rely less on creativity to find new paths. We should force ourselves out of our comfort zones and open up new possibilities.

Try different things

If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got. We are creatures of habits and routines, and creativity hates routines (常规). If you usually drive to work, take the subway for a few days.     3       Break your routine, experiment and try something new. New things are often creative, but the same old thing never is.

    4

Having a great idea is not enough, you must work to make it a reality. Have you ever seen a new product and realized that you thought of the same thing long ago? Yet someone else is making money with “your” idea.     5     The difference between a dreamer and a doer is action. Do whatever it takes to bring your ideas to life. If you can put them into practice, you are well on your way to improving your creativity in all areas of your life.

A.Take action
B.Seek several options
C.Think from the other person’s point of view.
D.If you normally eat in the office, have lunch under a tree.
E.We continue to create patterns for almost everything we do.
F.The truth is that we are all born with the ability to be creative.
G.We all have great ideas sometimes, but only a few people turn their ideas into realities.

文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文,主要讲的是作者和室友Kate之间虽然并不总是意见一致,但却最终学会了让步,清理和坚持的故事。

2 . I was never very neat, while my roommate Kate was extremely organized. Each of her objects had its place, but mine always hid somewhere. She even labeled (给贴标签) everything. I always looked for everything. Over time, Kate got neater and I got messier. She would push my dirty clothing over, and I would lay my books on her tidy desk. So we both got tired of each other.

War broke out one evening. Kate came into the room. Soon, I heard her screaming, “Take your shoes away! Why under my bed!” Deafened,I saw my shoes flying at me.I jumped to my feet and started yelling (叫喊). She yelled back louder.

The room was filled with anger. We could not have stayed together for a single minute but for a phone call. Kate answered it. From her end of the conversation, I could tell right away her grandma was seriously ill. When she hung up, she quickly crawled (爬行) under her covers (被子), sobbing (哭啼). Obviously, that was something she should not go through alone. All of a sudden, a warm feeling of sympathy rose up in my heart. Slowly, I collected the pencils, took back the books, made my bed, cleaned the socks and swept the floor, even on her side. I got so into my work that I even didn’t notice Kate had sat up. She was watching, her tears dried and her expression was such disbelief. Then, she reached out her hands to grasp mine. I looked up into her eyes. She smiled at me, “Thanks.”

Kate and I stayed roommates for the rest of the year. We didn’t always agree, but we learned the meaning of living together: giving in, cleaning up and holding on.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了人类以往的载人航天计划,出现的问题以及未来太空探索的方向。

9 . After men landed on the moon in 1969, astronauts around the world had a problem — there were no other places they could go! Even today, the other planets are still too far away for astronauts to fly to. So, while rockets and robots can go to other planets, flights with astronauts have to stay closer to home, at least for the time being.

Therefore, since visiting the manned space programs have turned their attention to solving problems related to living and working in space.

For the past decade, NASA’s manned space exploration program has focused on the space shuttle program. During that time, NASA operated three space shuttles: Discovery Atlantis, and Endeavor. Unfortunately, two of NASA’s shuttles, Challenger and Columbia were lost through accidents.

Seven astronauts died in each accident. While the shuttle program was going on, the shuttles flew over 120 missions. These missions included putting satellites into orbit, photographing the earth, studying space, conducting experiments related to working in space, and connecting with various manned space stations in orbit. Today, however, Discovery, Atlantis, and Endeavor are no longer being flown. NASA retired its space shuttle program in 2011.

As well as putting rockets and space shuttles into orbit, several space stations have been put into orbit. In 1986, the Soviet Union launched the Mir space station. Mir stayed in orbit until March 23,2001. Over that time,104 astronauts visited the station to stay for various lengths of time.

The person who has spent the longest in space so far is Russian astronaut Sergei Krikalev Working aboard Mir and flying in other missions, Mr. Krikalev lived and worked in space for a total of 803 days,9 hours, and 39 minutes. That is more than two years in space.

Another space station, the International Space Station (ISS), is still in orbit today. The first part of this space station was launched in 1998.NASA added the final section to the ISS in 2010, officially completing the space station. In the long run, it is predicted that research done aboard the ISS will help scientists learn about living and working in space.

1. What is the best title for the passage?
A.Sergei Krikalev-An Amazing AstronautB.The Past and Future of Space Travel
C.Space Cities of the FutureD.Living and Working on the International Space Station

A.There are not enough space shuttles.B.There have been too many rocket accidents.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。主要介绍了研究人员在北极熊身上安装跟踪项圈,以了解气候变化对它们的影响。

10 . Each year, Jon Aars, a senior researcher at the Norwegian Polar Institute and his colleagues capture around 70 polar bears in Svalbard and fit them with a tracking collar which continuously records movement. Once a day the collar makes a satellite call, sending the last 24 hours of data back to the Institute. “Data from movement has been very important to understand how they react and how they might respond to climate change,” Aars explains.

A warming climate means a vast amount of the region, and rising temperatures are also preventing seasonal ice which melts and recurs annually from forming in places it once did. Several seal species — polar bears’ main prey (猎物) — rely on sea ice, and more often than not, so do polar bears. But these creatures are being forced to move with the times.

“Because conditions change, polar bears will spend more time on land and look for different options,” Aars explains. “They hunt reindeer and they will take more birds and eggs. We have seen that bears are in different areas than they used to be — so much further north.

“According to NASA, summer ice in the Arctic is decreasing by more than each decade, and this year the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) reported the second lowest levels of summer sea ice ever recorded. The 14 lowest levels of sea ice have all occurred in the past 14 years, according to the NSIDC.

“You don’t find polar bears anywhere in the Arctic where you don’t have sea ice at least seasonally,” says Aars! “Changes so significant and so fast: we will reach some stage in the future where it will get much harder to be a polar bear in Svalbard.”

1. What is the function of the collar?
A.It prevents polar bears from being attacked.
B.It allows researchers to detect the melting sea ice.
C.It makes it easier for polar bears to search for food.
D.It helps researchers to monitor polar bears’ activities.
2. Which is the main cause of polar bears’ continuous movement?
A.Seasonal changes.B.Decreasing sea ice.
C.Their need for reproduction.D.Mass hunting of human.
3. What can we infer from paragraph 4?
A.Polar bears can adapt to climate change.
B.Polar bears are living in tough conditions.
C.People can do nothing about the warming climate.
D.Summer sea ice in the Arctic would disappear in 14 years.
4. What is Aars’ attitude towards the future of polar bears in Svalbard?
A.Optimistic.B.Tolerant.
C.Uncaring.D.Concerned.
