1 . 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

I was taking a trip from Texas to the Bahamas for a vacation, having prepared for this trip for a long time. After packing all my belongings and heading to the airport, I could only think about all the pleasant times I would have at the tropical(热带)island. I already had everything planned out, first I would go diving, then visit the queen’s stairs, and eventually go swimming with the dolphins. The thoughts made my heart race; I could even smell the fresh ocean breeze right now.

Finally, I made it into the airport, just in time to make my flight. As I boarded the plane, I had a smile stretched along my face. I slid right into my seat, sitting mid row right in the middle of two other passengers. One of them was a fairly attractive young female and the other was an elderly lady who looked to be in her 70s. Her hair was as gray as a thunderstorm cloud and the wrinkles on her skin matched the ones on my shirt.

“We should depart in about five minutes,” The pilot responded. At that time, I had no idea what was soon incoming after this announcement. I used to fly with my mom a whole bunch of times as a kid, the people beside me seeming to be taking it well as well.

I went to sleep and woke up to various screaming and yelling on the plane; everything was so chaotic that it looked straight out of a movie scene. The lights in the airplane started flickering(闪烁), and I could feel the bumps the plane was making. Was I still dreaming? I looked to my left and the seat was empty! Sweat started to run down my face. The young female was gone!

“Mommy!” A little girl screamed. I couldn’t control it anymore and tears started rolling down my face. The plane shook more, seeming the end was nearing.

“Ladies and gentlemen, we are experiencing an extreme clear air turbulence(乱流),” the pilot explained. “The plane is being adjusted. Please remain seated.”

4 . We’ve heard people say that we shouldn’t worry too much about the future. But this saying doesn’t hold true in the technological world. Here, you always need to think about the future, or else you won’t have the chance to be in the digital age. There are so many new inventions that come up daily, which help in making our lives better and easier.

The iPod we use daily was once a far-fetched thought of Mr. Jobs, which has become a reality today. Similarly, when television was launched, we thought nothing could beat this invention. Then came cable television, and now it’s the age of digital television. Similarly, until a few years ago, 3D was limited to movies, but today, we have 3D blueprints, 3D graphics, and 3D television sets as well. All these inventions were just a prediction by their inventors, but they later, went on to become a part of our lives. Similar predictions can be made for the future.

For example, how about having human-like robots that understand our instructions by simply speaking to them? We can talk with these robots regularly and simply instruct them to perform a particular task. If you want tea, you can simply require your robot to make it for you. These robots can be useful in industrial fields as well. For example, you can simply ask the robot to switch on the manufacturing line.

If waste keeps increasing, the future will see many problems related to pollution. So what about having a waste recycling machine that produces notebooks? Yes, I’m not talking about the regular recycling machines that give us raw materials we need to put to effective use. If we build recycling machines that produce a particular product out of the waste, it’ll do much help to the environment as well.

This list can go on and on. Our imagination has no limits and so does technology. Who knows? Maybe one of these ideas may become a reality in the near future!

1. What should we do according to the author?
A.Take the future less seriously.B.Use 3D technology more widely.
C.Base new inventions on experience.D.Keep making predictions for the future.
2. What can so called human-like robots do according to the text?
A.They can talk to themselves.B.They can understand human words.
C.They can offer the users instructions.D.They can invent something for humans.
3. What does the author think of the waste recycling machine?
A.It is achievable.B.It is profitable.C.It is affordable.D.It is impractical.
4. What is the text mainly about?
A.The far future of technology.B.Ways of making predictions.
C.Effects of predictions on inventions.D.The significance of human imagination.

5 . On an ordinary weekday evening, Jane was at home as usual. She was considering what she was going to do with her dinner plans for the evening when unexpectedly she received an urgent (紧急) call from her sister, “get over here!”

A few hours later, Jane found herself with 8 strangers in the middle of the boiling desert heat of Utah, picking up rubbish and raising awareness about zero waste and climate change.

Armed with a deep love of the environment and a desire to make a difference, Jane, Davey, and a group of self-described “environmental pick-up artists” went on a road-side rubbish pick-up. As they walked, sometimes only covering 0.9 miles in an entire day, they slowly and steadily made their way across the United States, picking up a total of 201,678 pounds of rubbish. In the end, three years and 3,672 miles later, they dipped their feet in the cold waters of the Pacific.

The road is winding, often up-hill. “With a rubbish bag as your companion, how do you remind yourselves that picking up that tiny gum wrapper on the ground makes a difference? Where do you find the strength to keep going?” As I asked Jane and Davey to answer these questions, they shared remarkable stories of caring environment that gave their efforts to continue their journey.

A small group of us were lucky enough to spend two hours last Wednesday evening listening to the remarkable stories of Jane and Davey. As they shared their deep concern for the environment, we together experienced their real spirit. Jane and Davey, like so many ordinary unknown heroes in our community, might not ever draw much attention like multi-million-dollar-funded projects. In many ways, it is exactly what makes their story so attractive.

1. Why did Jane’s sister call her out?
A.To ask her to prepare dinner for them.B.To beg her to help them out of trouble.
C.To ask her to join them in their activity.D.To ask for advice on picking up rubbish.
2. How did the group travel across the United States to gather rubbish?
A.By bus.B.On foot.C.By ship.D.By bike.
3. What gave them the courage to go on their journey?
A.Good teamwork spirit.B.Great interest in traveling.
C.Great love of natural beauty.D.Deep concern for the environment.
4. Which of the following can best describe Jane and her teammates?
A.Ordinary people have done extraordinary things.
B.Their effort will stop nature from being polluted.
C.Their action is wiser than environmental projects.
D.They are famous heroes of environmental protection.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章讲述了苹果酒对人体健康的益处。

9 . The proverb that an apple a day keeps the doctor away also applies to apple wine, say experts. They have found the first evidence that the drink made from fermented apple juice is good for your health. It is packed with chemicals that help protect against cancer, heart disease and other age related conditions.

Apple wine, one of England’s oldest alcoholic drinks, has long been thought to be beneficial to health, but there was no proof. Now scientists have confirmed there are high levels of health-improving antioxidants(抗氧化剂) in the wine.

Separate trials on volunteer apple wine drinkers at the Institute of Food Research, Norwich, details of which are published in the latest Journal of Nutrition, showed the antioxidants are rapidly absorbed into the blood stream, enhancing the health benefit.

文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文。文章讲述了一位老师通过新颖的教学方法,让学生们爱上学习的故事。

10 . It was my first year of teaching, and I was sinking. I could not get my middle school students to sit down and pay attention, I felt frustrated that I couldn’t get them to remember what I had just taught the day before; yet, they could easily remember every word of a new rap song on the radio. Of course, the other problem with this was that they came in each day singing about violence, depression and drug use, which frustrated me even more.

And then, one afternoon, instead of turning off their radios, I decided to offer them a different station. I went home, and made up a rap song about the math concepts they were learning at the time, called “The Itty Betty Dot”. I practiced it all night. Early the next morning, when my class came in, I performed it for them.

The result was very bad. The students laughed hysterically (歇斯底里). Not only were they not paying attention, they were also laughing at me. Later that day, I went to lunch with slow heavy steps like a big loser. And then it happened. As I walked by the lunch tables, I heard the students were singing my song!

The next day, they eagerly ran into my classroom, saying things like, “Mr. Kajitani, are you going to rap again? Yesterday was the best day ever in the math class!” From that moment on, everything changed. I had connected with my students on their level, using the language they understood to get across what I was trying to teach. By changing my approach, I got them excited to come to school. Their behavior improved significantly.

Then I started rapping about all the math concepts I was teaching. Now teachers throughout the United States use my songs.

C.They inspired his mood.D.They could relax his students.
2. What was the author’s purpose in making up “The kitty-betty Dot”
A.To express his complex emotions.B.To display his special musical talent.
C.To advocate his new teaching method.D.To motivate his students to study math.
3. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A.The method is now globally popular.
B.Rap songs’ language is easy to understand.
C.The author’s new approach has benefited more students.
D.Listening to the radio in class improved students’ behavior
4. What is the text mainly about?
