1 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Tess was a precocious (早熟的) eight-year-old girl when she heard her parents talking about her little brother, Andrew. All she knew was that he was very sick and they were completely out of money to cover the doctor’s bills.

Only a very costly surgery could save him now and it was looking like there was no one to loan them the money. She heard Daddy say to her tearful Mother with whispered desperation,“Only a miracle can save him now.”

Tess went to her bedroom and pulled a glass jelly jar and poured all the change out on the floor and counted it carefully. Then she slipped out the back door with all her money and made her way 6 blocks to Rexall’s Drug Store.

She waited patiently for the pharmacist to give her some attention but he was too busy at this moment. Tess twisted her feet to make a noise. Nothing. She cleared her throat with the most disgusting sound she could muster.

No good. Finally she took a quarter from her jar and banged it on the glass counter. That did it! “And what do you want?” the pharmacist asked in an annoyed tone of voice. “I'm talking to my brother from Chicago whom I haven’t seen in ages.” he said without waiting for a reply to his question.

“Well, I want to talk to you about my brother,” Tess answered back in the same annoyed tone. “He’s really, really sick and I want to buy a miracle.” “I beg your pardon?” said the pharmacist. “His name is Andrew and he has something bad growing inside his head and my Daddy says only a miracle can save him now. So how much does a miracle cost?” “We don’t sell miracles here, little girl. I'm sorry but I can’t help you,” the pharmacist answered impatiently.

2 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

It's eight o'clock on a cold spring night. Our apartment has been hit by the artwork of a young, energetic child. It was in total mess! I’m so tired tonight. I’ve been on crutches(拐杖)for seven weeks, recovering from hip surgery, and I'm trying fruitlessly to clean up.The phone rings-for the sixth time in less than an hour. We know who it is. My mom is troubled by paranoia(妄想症)-she thinks she has been kicked out of the nursing home (not true),she thinks her daughters have not visited in months (it has been a few days).

Each time she calls, I play a game with myself called“How Good a Person Can I Be?"I've won five rounds of the game tonight; I am due for a fall. She has no idea that she has repeated the things she is about to say a million times today and a million times yesterday. She has no idea that I had surgery, nor can she recall her own granddaughter's name. She is unaware of most of the past, and she drifts in the present. She is lonely.

I threw my anger at my mother. “MOM!” I yelled. “YOU ARE NOT BEING REMOVED FROM YOUR HOME!AND WE VISITED TWO DAYS AGO!”“Mom,you have to believe me,and if you don't,I cannot talk anymore!Everything is fine!”Silence. Then:“I was only calling to say hi.” My mother continued, having already forgotten that I yelled. “But I'm also worried about something; do you have a minute?”“No,Mom,I don't.”“Why are you yelling?” I'm yelling because you cannot help me care for my child, or even remember to ask me about my day. I'm yelling because you remind me of everything I fear:aging, sickness, fragility, bad luck,loss...I flop on the couch, aware of all my daughter is witnessing. She hears me blame my mother, lose my patience. I have not only failed at being a Good Person; I have failed at being a Good Example to My Daughter. I sat on the couch, defeated.

3 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

The dawn had yet not broken, but the chirping and twittering of birds was telling the early risers that it was about to. Two squirrels wrestled over a nut on the narrow lane, with overgrown grasses on both sides. These squirrels were to be the first to be photographed that day and…click! A tender-looking boy examined the taken picture closely. ’Good enough’ he thought and then shared the picture excitedly.

The boy is Vinay. He is seventeen. One morning on his usual stroll down the lane, his phone vibrated(振动). He checked it to find some beautiful pictures of flowers and sunrise and little animals. The pictures were of course wrongly sent but it paved the way for a special friendship between Vinay and Vani. They didn’t know where the other lived. They would share with each other the photographs of the most beautiful things they came across during their morning walk. They would occasionally share each other’s photograph but made it sure that it revealed nothing about their residence. Vani was twenty-five. It wasn’t that they didn’t want to meet…it was just that they wanted to make it as special as their unique relation was…

A short sweet tune on her smartphone told Vani that Vinay had found something interesting because that early in the morning it could be no one else but him. She swiped to unlock, and then tapped on the picture Vinay had shared. She smiled broadly at sight of two squirrels wrestling. She then texted back, “Today I’ve chosen a new place to go for a walk. ” "I’ll send you pictures as soon as I find something interesting. ”

There were two message alerts on Vinay’s phone. He checked the messages. Then he typed, “I’ll wait. ”A drop of dew(露水)fell on Vinay’s head. He stepped aside and looked up. The dew drops settling on the vibrantly green leaves caught his eyes. He clicked a picture in no time and shared it with Vani. He added a caption. It read—’For You’.

4 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

In a cold living room, Tom is sitting in his chair. His eyes don’t shine anymore. He looks extremely old and weak. Today is his birthday, and he is by himself. The only thing that he has been doing all day is thinking about how sad and lonely his life is. As he was looking at some old pictures, he found one special with him and his friends from college. This picture brought back the days when he had friends and his life was full of happiness. Also, it brought him a sad memory. This memory happened forty years ago, during his last year of college.

Throughout college, Tom had a friend named Mark. Mark was tall and skinny. He was shy, smart and responsible. Also, Mark didn’t have as many friends as Tom had. He considered Tom as his best friend. As good friends, Tom and Mark went boating together, they knew everything about each other. Also, they overcame many problems together. They were really good friends.

On his twenty-fourth birthday their life changed. On the night before his birthday, Mark called Tom, “Hi! Tom” his voice sounded strange. He continued, “I have an important project to work on. I’m having some problems with this. Maybe, you could come over and help me with it giving me some new ideas. Could you?” Tom asked, “What time?” Mark kept in silence for a minute, then he said. “At 8 pm, is it good for you?” Then Tom answered, “Ok! See you later”. At that night, it was Tom’s birthday. So, he didn’t want to spend his birthday helping Mark with his project. Tom went to a club with some other guys.

The next morning, Tom noticed that Mark was acting differently. When he went to talk to Mark, Mark ignored him completely. As Mark was about to leave the classroom, Tom said in an angry voice, “You are selfish. You are just thinking about yourself. I was having fun on my birthday. Why can’t you understand it?”

5 . 阅读下面短文,根据其内容和所给段落的开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

One day Sofia was taking a walk with her mom while window shopping. They both knew they wouldn’t be buying much.

They were in a high-class neighborhood and they lived in a small overpriced apartment building at the edge of their county. Sofia’s mom chose to move there because the schools in the neighborhood were good. But now it was the first time that Sofia had realized that they didn’t belong there.

The little girl was looking up at the people they passed as they walked. Ladies wore five-inch heels, bright clothing and jewelry. Gentlemen wore expensive perfumes which can wipe away the wrinkles on their faces. A sense of uneasiness started to rise in her chest. She was feeling ashamed of her mother, which she would not deny any longer. At the moment, mom looked so plain compared with the well-dressed passers-by. Mom was wearing cheap clothes and worn-out shoes. Sofia could see the heavy lines around mom’s eyes and mouth clearly. Her eyes were tired from working hard to earn enough money to be able to support the family. Sofia felt strongly that her shabby and exhausted mom was so out of the place. She didn’t want to be seen with her mom although there was no one important around to see her anyway. She felt embarrassed about being at mom’s side. How she wanted to have a young, beautiful, and fashionable mom! She just wanted to get out of here. However, her mom didn’t notice that. Mom was still in high spirits and she insisted on buying a new dress for her lovely daughter.

Now they were standing in the middle of a high-end clothing store and mom was holding a beautiful sweater. “This will look good on you. Do you want it?” mom asked Sofia excitedly.

7 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

“I’ve taken up quilting,” my mother announced proudly over the phone one day.

“That’s great, Mom,” I said.

My 70-year-old mother was undergoing chemotherapy for her cancer. It is a battle that I knew she would someday lose. Maybe soon. It broke my heart for more reasons than one.

“I’m working on a quilt for your sister now,” she said. “Once I’m done, I’ll make one for you.”

“Thank you.”

She asked about the kids. We chatted about the weather. Then we said our goodbyes. The conversation was short, polite and surface level, as always.

Mom and I had never had what you would call a warm relationship. We never hugged. Never said “I love you”. I didn’t know why. Nothing bad had ever come between us. We just weren’t close the way I was with my kids. For years, I’d longed to break down that wall and to hear those three words. I just didn’t know how to start. We’d been this way for as long as I could remember. Finally, I came up with the idea to schedule regular lunch dates together. Maybe by sharing a meal we might share more of ourselves.

Then the pandemic hit. Suddenly I was on the front line of the COVID-19 battle. No way could I risk infecting Mom, especially with her weak immune system. I settled for daily phone calls instead. It wasn’t quite the bonding experience I’d hoped for. She promised she was working on that quilt for me, though.

My quilt was Mom’s last one.

On a Thursday in June, I got the call from my dad. He was so upset that all I could understand were the words “She’s gone”.

In the weeks that followed, I was torn between thankfulness that she was no longer suffering and an overwhelming desire to see her again, to connect, as if the pandemic had robbed me of that chance. If we’d only had more time. If she’d only said, “I love you.”

1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

A few months later, I thought of the quilt Mom made for me, and decided to give quilting a try myself.

8 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。

My mother eyed me with suspicion. I dared not look at her. Knowing that I was late from school five days continuously, I could not offer an acceptable explanation. I knew she did not believe that I had extra classes every day and arrived home after 5 pm. However, realizing she had little choice but to believe in me, she told me that dinner was in the refrigerator. She had to rush for her night shift at the local clinic.

Ever since we lost our dad in an accident, my mother became the breadwinner. I was the eldest among the four siblings and it fell upon my shoulder to ensure that they could become responsible adults. Besides helping mother with the housework, I regularly coached them in their studies. Thankfully, never once had I had to raise my voice or force them to complete their homework. But all of us missed dad very much. He was a model father and husband.Life was cruelly taken away from him at a very young age of 42.

However, my mother managed to pull through and found a job at the clinic. It was very tough on someone like her who had never worked before in her life. But money was scarce and there were five mouths to feed. Dad did not leave much behind. He never suspected he would die so young. We stopped dining out and had our meals mostly at home. We basically lived from hand to mouth. That's when it dawned on me that I had to do my part for the family. I knew mother would not agree but I threw caution out of the window and managed to get a part-time job at a fast-food restaurant.I worked three hours a day and managed to bring home money so that my siblings and I could go out for occasional movies or meals. I was sure that mother suspected something. But she could not quite point the figure to the source of her suspicion.

One day, while I was busy serving the customers, I was shocked to see mother standing opposite the counter.

10 . 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

Big Red

The first time we set eyes on “Big Red,” father, mother and I were trudging (跋涉)through the freshly fallen snow on Main Street in Huntsville, Ontario. As we passed the Eaton’s Department store’s window, we stopped as usual to gaze, and do our bit of dreaming.

Mother’s eyes were glued to the massive flare of red shinning dress. “My goodness,” she managed to say in wonder. “Would you just look at that dress!” Then, totally out of character, mother made a spin of a waltz (华尔兹) on the slippery sidewalk. Beneath the heavy, grey wool coat she had worn every winter for as long as I could remember, mother lost her balance and fell. Father quickly caught her. Her cheeks were redder than usual. “What a silly dress to be hung up there in the window of Eaton’s!” she shook her head in disgust. “Who on earth would want such a dress?” As we continued down the street, mother turned back for one more look.

Christmas was nearing and the red dress was soon forgotten. Mother, of all people, was not one to wish for, or spend money on, items that were not practical. “There are things we need more than this,” she’d always say. Father, on the other hand, liked to buy at will whenever the budget allowed. Of course, he’d get a scolding for his occasional splurging (摆阔),but it was all done with the best intention.

Mom was forever doing chores—washing laundry by hand, tending the pigs, or working in our huge garden—so she always wore mended, cotton-print housedresses and an apron to protect the front.

That Christmas I bought Dad some small fishing tools. But choosing something for Mother was much harder. Before Christmas, we were driving up Main Street when mother suddenly raised her voice in surprise. “That big red dress is gone!?, She pointed excitedly as Dad drove past Eaton’s. “Who’d be fool enough to buy such a silly dress?” she questioned in disbelief.
