1 . 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

My 12th birthday came at last. What a wonderful feeling it was to know that I turned twelve and that I might possibly get the thing I wanted most.

I saw my mom and dad coming towards me with a small box wrapped up (包装) with nice pink paper with flowers on it. When I removed the paper and opened the box, I couldn’t believe my eyes. I had got a cell phone! I ran to give my mom and dad the biggest hug ever, and said, “Thank you! I love you!”

“You’re welcome. We knew this was going to make you happy. But we give you this not only because you have turned twelve but also because you are doing well in school. We expect you to keep getting good grades.”

I said confidently that I would. As soon as I got to school the next morning, I was showing off my phone and asking everyone for their number. It was cool how I got so many contacts (联系人) on the first day. It felt like I didn’t even exist in that class any more. I didn’t pay much attention to the teachers because I was too busy on my phone. I texted my friends, surfed the Internet for stories or played games.

Luckily, I didn’t get caught using it. I had formed a habit of secretly enjoying my phone in class. But I was pretty sure that the teachers did notice that I stopped paying attention to them, because a week later we took a test and I failed. What’s worse, my parents had to sign the test.

3 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Molly didn’t understand what there was to celebrate. She looked around as her graduating high school class cheered while standing and tossing their caps high into the air. Molly took her cap off and gripped it tight.

She craned her neck to look at the rain of black and white graduation caps cascading down. Some caps had signatures on them in permanent marker. Some were decorated with glitter and gems. Some had stickers and she noticed one was beautifully hand-painted.

She looked down at her own white cap. White. Blank. Bare. She drew it close to her chest and held on tight. Today was her last chance to see her best friends, after all. Wren had decided to head to the college where her father lived outside of the country. Iris was headed to collage on the other side of the country.

Molly sat down in her chair again. She was stuck in the middle of her graduating class. She couldn’t see Iris or Wren at the front of the class. Molly’s only friend at the moment was herself.

The ceremony was long over. Molly stood, trying to find some way out of the mess of chairs and people that blocked her in when she noticed Iris and Wren standing at the end of the row she was in. Molly cracked a smile and waved. She parted the chairs in front of her and walked along the seats in that row to get to her friends.

“Can you believe this day has finally arrived?” Iris exclaimed, clapping her hands together and bouncing on her feet. Molly cracked another smile. She still didn’t see what there was to celebrate.

Sure, she was excited to go off’ to college herself. She decided to go to the local community college because she wanted to stay close to home and also because she didn’t know what she wanted to do for a career. Both her friends had seemed to already figure that out and Molly felt even more backward.

She wasn’t doing anything special—no studying abroad, no living in a new country, no decorations on her graduation cap.

5 . 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

Gifts for Jace

I’ll never forget the day that one of my students shyly raised his hand and said that he had never received a gift. My shocked fifth-graders were discussing a reading story about a boy who was not going to be getting anything for his birthday because money was tight that year. Even though this class was very pen during reading discussions, Tace’s honesty surprised even me. What was even more eye-opening was the fact that this sweet, fifth-grade boy had gone ten years and never experienced the joy and surprise of receiving a present.

I searched my mind for a reason that he might be saying this. Did he want attention from his peers? No, that was definitely not his style. Was he exaggerating (夸大)?Again, he was not the type. Then I remembered his story. His mother was out of the picture and he lived alone with his dad. His father had a hard time holding down a job, and coming to think of it, I didn’t see his father at registration or parent-teacher conferences. Even though on the outside Jace was a bit untidy, he always came to school with a smile and sincere enthusiasm for learning.

A couple of weeks after Jace’s comment, he was absent from school due to the fact that he had moved away. This happened to be the day I was sending home the annual note about the classroom Christmas gift exchange. Traditionally, each boy was to bring a gift for a boy in the three-dollar range and the same was true for each girl.

As we were discussing the specifics, a girl raised her hand and sincerely suggested that we do away with our traditional policy, and each buy a gift for Jace instead. The enthusiasm grew as the students discussed the kinds of things they knew Jace would like. We took a quick vote and consistently agreed to go ahead with this wonderful idea.

6 . 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

I grew up in a large family of twelve siblings (兄弟姐妹). We weren’t poor by most standards, but things were difficult for us. My parents never shared their financial worries, choosing instead to let us have a carefree childhood. But I knew that there were times they went without and that certain things my friends had wouldn’t be easy for me to get.

Back in those days, hot lunch was a luxury (奢侈) for the wealthier kids, and hot-lunch buyers sat separately from the students who brought cold lunch. My siblings and I brought lunch from home every day: homemade bread, three cookies, and a small apple. We would look on longingly as the rich kids proudly sat down with their steaming plates of fried chicken or fish sticks and cold milk, sweet peaches and delicious cake.

I never said anything, but my first grade teacher, Mrs. Caruso, must have seen the eagerness in my eyes. One day she quietly pressed a note into my hand and whispered, “Give this to your mother.”

I arrived home and gave my mom the note. She read it and smiled. “Well, Mrs. Caruso said because of all your hard work, she wants to buy your lunch tomorrow.” The next day, I proudly carried my tray of chicken across the cafeteria and took my seat at the hot-lunch table. Honestly, the food wasn’t as great as I had imagined, but I was pleased to be there and felt honored to be a part of the group.

One rainy day, Mrs. Caruso asked me to stay after school. My heart instantly sank. Surely, I must be in trouble! Did she know I hadn’t finished my math homework? Did she see me making fun of Billy on the playground?
