Find positive influence
At any age, it’s beneficial to stay involved with extracurricular activities like sports, music, art, or other hobbies. Team building activities can help increase self-confidence and create a support system that allows an individual to succeed. Additionally, enjoying hobbies and other harmless pastimes like exercising can release feel-good hormones.
Plan ahead
Experiencing peer pressure, especially when in an unfriendly environment, can cause a person to panic and make impulsive decisions.
Positive influences, usually parents or siblings, can teach you how to deal with peer pressure directly. 5 . John is a barber, running a very successful business. He has a large group of regulars, some of whom enjoy a daily shave in his shop, while others just come for the occasional haircut. They keep coming because John loves to laugh, and 30 minutes spent in his shop is a medicine that cheers everyone up. His loud, booming laugh is a trademark around his town.
But John wasn’t always a barrel of laughs. In his teens and early adulthood, he suffered from depression. He often had a long face and found it hard to even smile. It was his neighbor, Mrs. Lee, who was a psychologist, that helped him out. She showed him funny videos or read light-hearted books for him, guided him to focus on things he was grateful for, rather than on things that had been bothering him. Following her advice, he forced himself to laugh as wild as possible, even if it felt fake (假的). To his surprise, after a while, he turned his life around, and real laughter came back into his life again.
Researchers say that we’re all born with the ability to laugh and that finding more ways to bring laughter into our lives does not have to be complicated. In fact, the best advice they offer is “Fake it till you make it.” If you focus on finding ways to laugh and enjoy life and try to smile and laugh even when not feeling like it, you can genuinely change your mood and laugh happily.
John also says we shouldn’t hold back our urge to laugh, even at silly things. Next time you see a funny advertisement on television, making you laugh inside, focus on letting out that laughter. Laughter can be contagious, so you may help others around you, too.

Have you ever felt so embarrassed (尴尬的) in your life that you wanted to simply disappear? Well, I have.
My worst day began on a hot Monday morning when I was in the second grade. My class would choose some players for a baseball team on that day. For some reason, I had overslept that morning. And in my hurry to get dressed, I took the first white shirt I could find. I hurriedly put it on, rushed out of the back door and headed for school. Unfortunately, my mistake didn’t show itself until we were all on the baseball field.
Earlier, I had noticed a few of my classmates looking at me and talking among themselves. A few others were laughing. But I knew they weren’t mean kids; maybe they had just found something funny. So I didn’t think their behavior was directed at me and I didn’t give it much thought at the time. But as we were all standing around and waiting to be chosen for a team, one of my friends finally told me what all the talking and laughing were about.
I could hardly believe it! In my hurry to get ready for school, I had accidentally taken one of my sister’s shirts. There I was, waiting to be chosen for a team and wearing a girly shirt known to all. The shirt was complete with beautiful little blue flowers, heart-shaped buttons down the front, and many other features that showed it was a shirt designed for girls.
I was so embarrassed that my face was burning red. When I finally calmed down a little, I realized I had to do something — this situation called for quick action. Knowing I couldn’t leave school, I rushed to the school closet (壁橱) and crazily searched it to see if I could find any clothes. Finally, I was lucky to discover a piece of clothing. It was an old heavy coat that I left there the previous winter.
Paragraph 1:
I quickly put it on to cover my shame and embarrassment.

Running is a very effective technique to calm anxieties. The focus it takes to run and the endorphins your body releases will take your mind off whatever is frustrating you. Be sure to adequately warm up and stretch before you run!
A challenging yoga practice is a great way to control your anger to help you get through it. You may be so frustrated that getting started in a yoga practice may seem impossible.
Cycling is a serious cardiovascular (心血管的) workout and you can use your anger to help you push through the difficulty of it. When you go for a ride outdoors, the extra focus it takes to navigate the outside world can provide a helpful distraction from your frustration.

9 . How do you express gratitude in your everyday life? For me, it sometimes feels worrying: hand-writing hundreds of thank you cards after an anniversary, or making sure to eat every last bite on my plate so my grandma wouldn’t think I was ungrateful for the meal.
Start a gratitude journal or write a letter. Make it a habit to put down the things that you’re thankful for.
Bear in mind the difference between saying “thanks to” and “thanks for”. Being grateful “for” something can be a little unclear or general.
A.Stretch your gratitude muscle. |
B.Notice the world surrounding you. |
C.Better still, deliver it in person and read it to them. |
D.A habitual gratitude journal will certainly benefit us. |
E.But experts say it doesn’t have to be that complicated. |
F.In fact, this habit reduces materialism and enhances generosity. |
G.Being grateful “to” something or someone implies a direct relationship. |
10 . For some people, practicing gratitude is part of their spiritual practice or religion, while for others, it’s about cultivating a more positive outlook on life.
Improved mood
When you practice gratitude, you shift your focus from negative thoughts and feelings to positive ones. Instead of thinking about everything that makes you unhappy, gratitude makes you think about all the things that are good — no matter how big or small. Practicing gratitude will make you feel more optimistic.
Better relationship
When you think about all the things you are grateful for, you will think of the people in your life that you care for — your family and friends.
Reduced stress
Instead of focusing on all the things that you’re bad at or things you’ve failed at, practicing gratitude will shift your focus on all the amazing things you’ve accomplished. And once you realize that, you’ll boost your feelings of achievement. Just focus on what you are grateful for in yourself. It will help you to appreciate your own strengths and talents.
A.Increased focus |
B.Improved self-worth |
C.People are facing a certain problem |
D.You have plenty of reasons to be happy |
E.That helps you realize life isn’t as bad as you thought |
F.Whatever someone’s reason for practicing gratitude is |
G.Once you realize how grateful you are to have them in your life |
