2 . I have been a teacher for some years. In my opinion, I don’t believe Artificial Intelligence (AI) could replace my teaching career. I have always been interested in human connection, and the way in which I can use these commotions to inspire change and make a difference.     1    , there are other ways where AI could make a more efficient and effective difference than I could on my own.

My teaching experiences over the past several years have been creative and inspiring- 1 believe that the job of educators extends beyond simply teaching students a set curriculum.    2    . They must constantly reflect on ways to better their teaching, and they must inspire their students to be the best versions of themselves. And now with the help of Al, they could achieve these goals much easier.

3    . First, AI can be used to promote fundamental skills, such as mathematical education and vocabulary lessons. Additionally, I see AI being used for necessary tasks such as answering questions and grading assignments. Thus I could focus my attention on establishing human connection, individualizing lesson plans and inspiring my students.

4    . I believe AI could provide a strong basis for educational equality around the world. According to Todd Leopold, close to 800 million people worldwide are functionally illiterate (不识字的). Due to its ability to efficiently pass knowledge across large groups of people, fewer teachers may be needed in some schools.    5    .

A.Since students will always need a human teacher
B.I think AI is a powerful assistant to my future classroom
C.The benefit AI brings is far beyond my own classroom.
D.Although human connection may never be able to be fully replaced by AI
E.As students need to learn how to use AI to better their academic performance
F.They must observe and get to know their students in order to individualize educational plan
G.This could be an opportunity for students everywhere to receive equal education

4 . The Internet brings us many advantages. With the Internet, people can send and receive emails. On the Internet, people can skim over news. Using the Telnet, the user anywhere on the Internet can log into any other machine on which he has an account. It is possible to use the FTP program to copy files from one machine on the Internet to another.

But the Internet also brings us troubles.

Internet use seems to cause a fall in psychological (心理的) health, according to research at Carnegie Mellon University. Even people who spent just a few hours a week on the Internet experienced more depression and loneliness than those who logged on less often, the twoyear study showed. And it wasn't that people who were already feeling bad spent more time on the Internet, but that using the Net actually seemed to cause the bad feelings.

Researchers are puzzled over the results, which were completely opposite to what they had expected. They expected that the Net would prove socially healthier than television, since the Net allows users to choose their information and to communicate with others.

The fact that Internet use reduces time used for family and friends may be the reason for the drop in health, researchers said. Faceless, bodiless “virtual” (虚拟的) communication may be less psychologically satisfying than actual conversations, and the relationships formed through it may not be so deep. Another possibility is that exposure to the wider world through the Net makes users less satisfied with their lives.

“But it’s important to remember this is not about the technology; it’s about how it is used,”said one of the researchers. “It really points to the need for considering social factors (因素) when you design new inventions.”

1. The writer mainly wants to tell us that ________.
A.the Internet can bring people many advantages
B.the Internet use may cause psychological problems
C.the Internet users are not satisfied with their lives
D.we shouldn't use the Internet
2. Why are the researchers puzzled over the results?
A.Because the results were completely different from what they had thought.
B.Because the Net proved socially healthier than television.
C.Because the Internet users were all healthier.
D.Because the Internet users experienced less depression and loneliness.
3. What may be the reasons why the Internet use causes a fall in psychological health?
A.Internet use reduces time used for family and friends.
B.Virtual communication is less psychologically satisfying than actual conversations.
C.Exposure to the wider world through the Net makes users less satisfied with their lives.
D.All of the above.

5 . Fu Cong, a Chinese-born pianist, died on Monday at a hospital in London, where he had lived for many years.

A lover of classical music from a young age, Mr. Fu began taking piano lessons when he was 7. He made his first stage appearance in 1952. The concert caught the attention of officials in Beijing, who selected him to compete and tour in Eastern Europe. Mr. Fu soon moved to Poland, where he studied at the Warsaw Conservatory (音乐学校) on a scholarship. To prepare for the fifth Chopin Competition in Warsaw in 1955, he practiced so hard that he hurt his fingers and was nearly cut from the first round of the competition.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章讲述了目前全球存在从地下蓄水层取水的问题,我们需要讨论想出新方法、新策略。

6 . The Earth is losing some of its major freshwater supplies. But the water is not in lakes or rivers. They are called “aquifers(含水层)”. Some aquifers are so deep that water from very heavy rains cannot reach them through all the rock and dirt.

Many aquifers provide irrigation(灌溉)water for crops. The freshwater is helping farmers in many countries. But a new report says some aquifers are being emptied. Irrigated agriculture is responsible for about 80 percent of freshwater use worldwide. A growing part of that comes from underground aquifers because of dry weather or farmers growing crops in areas with little rainfall.

But researchers say taking water from aquifers is creating a large problem. Scientists warn that there is not much that can be done to repair them. It is difficult to measure ground-water and to know how much water is there and where it is, because it is so deep underground. The water from these aquifers many not be replaced for hundreds of years.

The report says some countries use the most non-renewable groundwater for agricultural production. If China and India use up the groundwater they need to feed their populations, they would be forced to buy more food. This increased demand could cause food prices to rise.

The study shows that, while countries like Somalia are dealing with little rainfall, the world may someday face an underground drought. It’s a global issue. We don’t have any great solutions or strategies to deal with this. So, at least, we need to have discussions to come up with new ways, new strategies that recognize this problem and manage how we might adjust our policies. Any strategy must balance the short-term need for food with the long-term survival of the Earth’s aquifers.

1. Why is it tough to recover underground water?
A.More water is drawn than it is added.
B.Researchers have no way to know about it.
C.Underground is too deep for rainwater to reach.

2. What’s the final result of the disappearance of underground water?
A.Food will become more expensive.
B.More people in the world will be fed on.
C.It is harder to discover underground water.
D.There will be less rainfall due to dry weather.
3. How does the author feel when stating the fact in the text?
A.AmazedB.ConcernedC.SubjectiveD.Calm
4. What may be the best title for the text?
A.It’s Time to Stop Using Underground Water!
B.To Save Underground Water Is Everyone’s Duty.
C.The Earth’s Underground Water Is Being Emptied.
D.Human Is the Main Reason for the Lack of Underground Water

7 . TikTok has pushed a new safety update in November to its app that allows parents to take more control of their teenager's accounts, as social media companies come under increasing pressure to make their platforms safer for children.

The company said Tuesday that its “Family Pairing” feature now enables parents to turn off comments on their children's videos entirely or to limit them to friends only. Parents whose accounts are linked to their kids will also be able to set their accounts to private, turn off the search function for content, users or sounds, and limit who can see which videos their children have liked.

Launched (发布) in March, the Family Pairing tool lets parents see how long their children are spending on TikTok each day and limit the content they can see.

TikTok allows children to register and create an account if they're over the age of 13. All they need to do is provide their date of birth. However, because TikTok doesn't require registers to prove their identities, some children under 13 have registered by lying about their age, according to U. K. regulator Ofcom (英国通讯管理局).

Alexandra Evans, head of child safety public policy for TikTok in Europe, told CNBC that Family Pairing has “put itself in parents’ shoes” since it was launched.

“If we're thinking about it as a toolbox, we wanted to offer more tools,” she said on a video call ahead of the announcement.

1. What pushed TikTok to launch the new update?
A.The pressure from social media.B.The concern about kids' online safety.
C.The force from government.D.The increasing need of users.
2. What is the second paragraph mainly about?
A.The safety tips from TikTok.B.New apps explored by TikTok.
C.New functions of Family Pairing.D.The limits on Family Pairing.

C.TikTok's failure to check identities.D.The demand for users' birth dates.
4. What's Evans attitude toward the new Family Pairing?
A.Uninterested.B.Objective.
C.Disappointed.D.Supportive.

8 . Rather than building new homes to help satisfy housing markets, a new study says that taxing empty homes in big cities could increase housing affordability for local residents while generating income for the governments.

During the past 20 years, housing affordability has decreased significantly in the UK due to a rapid increase in prices relative to earnings. This may be due to foreign investors buying properties in cities such as London, or from British citizens in the countryside buying second homes in the city, which reduces the availability of affordable housing for local residents.

This means that local citizens who actually live in the city are forced to pay more money for housing in neighborhoods that are filled with homes that are unoccupied for more than half of the year.

In a study that was published recently, researcher Jonathan Bourne at University College London studied the relationship between the amount of properties which do not have permanent residents, and housing affordability in different parts of England and Wales. Upon researching the data, which represents about 40% of the population, the researcher was stunned to find that there were over 340,000 empty apartments across the places.

Though some cities are trying to meet housing demands by building more housing, Bourne suggests that local governments put an empty homes tax of 1% instead. “The data shows that empty homes are very concentrated in small numbers of desirable areas. In such cases simply building more homes is not going to solve the problem, as the issue is severe competition for property, not a lack of places to live. ” says Bourne.

Vancouver introduced a similar empty homes tax in 2017, which was the first of   its kind in North America. One year after it went into effect, the city reported a 15% decrease in unoccupied homes, which amounted to 163 properties being rented out to local people. Furthermore, the tax raised more than $ 38 million in city revenue(税收),all of which was spent on affordable housing programs.

1. Who might be blamed for low housing affordability?
A.Local residents.B.Foreign tourists.
C.The local governments.D.The owners of empty homes.
2. What does the example of Vancouver imply?
A.Taxing empty properties works well.
B.Taxes on housing need to be cut down.
C.Providing more housing is a wise choice.
D.Housing demands have fallen in North America.
3. What is the purpose of this text?
A.To encourage people to rent a house.
B.To suggest building more new homes.
C.To explain why housing prices have risen.
D.To discuss solutions to affordable housing.

9 . If you cannot afford to travel in any class above economy, flying generally sucks (恶心), either a little or a lot, depending on your tolerance level. But it especially sucks if you are too wide for the airlines design.

Just getting to your seat can be a challenge, as your hips (臀部) bounce from seat to seat on each side of the aisle(过道). If someone is standing up to put things in the overhead locker, there is a decision to be made about whether it’s worth trying to squeeze past. Everything is just slightly too small: the seats, the overhead lockers, even the bathrooms—and those, it seems, are getting even smaller.

The Washington Post recently reported that, on some newer planes flown by American, Delta and United airlines, the bathrooms in economy class are just 61 cm wide: about 25 cm narrower than the average portable toilet, and roughly the width of the average dishwasher. Your face might be the only thing you can poke in there comfortably—which makes it a poor design, considering what a passenger is likely to need the bathroom for.

According to the manufacturer, these “Advanced Spacewell” bathrooms make space for six additional passengers, which is great for the airlines’ financial bottom line. But what about the other bottom line? Concerning, well, bottoms(臀部) that can’t fit into their planes’ bathrooms?

As bodies get bigger and aeroplane spaces get smaller, fat people among us have come up with solutions. Armrests that turn us into sausages (香肠) can be pulled up, or slowly encased (围住; 包起) into the soft flesh of our sides until we go numb(麻木的). We can ask the flight attendant to get us a seat-belt extender, if security has confiscated the one we brought with us, as can sometimes happen. But squeezing into a tiny toilet and closing the door behind us? Not workable.

Unlike the impossible task of squeezing down the aisle to your seat, or the side-to-side dance necessary to get big hips past the armrests, fitting into a space just 61 cm wide is not just a challenge—it is almost impossible. It is not like missing out on an option for the in-flight meal—a bathroom is as essential as a safety-compliant seat belt, or the air that is pumped into the cabin(飞机舱). If airlines are not willing to make space for us,bigger passengers may have no option but to reconsider booking a flight at all.

1. What is the advantage of the new toilets?
A.All passengers can use them at the same time.
B.They are more comfortable.
C.The airlines can increase their profits.
D.They are practical and convenient.
2. What does the underlined word “confiscated” mean?
A.Taken.B.Questioned.
C.Checked.D.Provided.
3. What does the fifth paragraph mainly tell us?
A.Fat people can deal with many problems they face on planes.
B.Flight attendants are likely to be helpful when asked for assistance.
C.Flying is pleasant for overweight people at present.
D.People’s bodies are getting bigger year by year.
4. The author believes that bigger passengers______.
A.will have to find more creative solutions in the future
B.might be unable to travel by air in the future
C.should miss out on the option for the in-flight meal
D.should grasp the chance to lose weight before flying

10 . How many phone numbers can you remember by heart? It’s probably fewer than you would like. Actually, you are not alone. Out of more than 1,000 Americans who were surveyed, more than half said that they couldn’t recall the phone numbers of their friends and neighbors. In their eyes, there is no point in filling their heads with phone numbers if they are all stored in smart phones that are with them almost all the time.

In fact, most people are suffering from a sort of digital amnesia(健忘). more than 90% of those surveyed agreed that they used the Internet as an online of their brains. Rote memorization(死记硬背) was once an important part of modern education, but we just need a click or slide now. That’s making us worse at remembering things.

Researchers found that when people expected to use the information online, they were less likely to remember actual facts, but more likely to remember how to find them. As a result, we are already becoming ones with our computer tools, growing into interconnected systems that remember less by knowing information than by knowing where the information can be found.

However, some believe it isn’t necessarily a bad thing--maybe it gives them more chances to think through things. We certainly acquire more knowledge now than ever, even if it isn’t all stored in our brains.

Even so, I still believe that there are more risks to this new world of memory beyond losing our ability to recall some information such as who the 15th President was. That kind of information may always be a click away, but the important things are personal ones, like the way your parents smiled at your wedding. It’s harder to recall or find online. If you’re relying on yourself to keep track of those memories, they will be much more meaningful.

1. Paragraph 1 is mainly used to _______.
A.serve as the backgroundB.introduce the topic
C.explain new researchD.show some data to readers
2. What’s the main cause of people’s suffering from digital amnesia?
A.Dealing with too many thingsB.Seldom thinking about questions
C.Relying on the internet too muchD.The changes of their memories.
3. It can be learned from the passage that _______.
A.over 90% people are suffering from digital amnesia
B.people can gain knowledge more easily than before
C.rote memorization no longer exists in modern life
D.People find it hard to remember how to find information
4. What’s the author’s attitude towards people’s memories now?
A.WorriedB.Optimistic
C.DisappointedD.Confident
