4 . While telling others your zodiac sign (星座), you are being evaluated (评估). Evaluations are being made about your luck, your personality, future development and how you will do in a given year. So what is the Chinese zodiac, exactly? It’s a 12-year cycle labeled (标记) with animals, starting with a Rat and ending with a Pig. For example, if you were born in 2004, you are a Monkey.
The Chinese believe some animals are luckier than the others, such as the Dragon. Unlike in Western tradition, the Chinese Dragon stands for power, strength and wealth. It’s everyone’s dream to have a Dragon baby. Ma Yun’s parents must have been very proud. And they are not the only ones. In 2012, the Year of the Dragon, the birthrate in China increased by about 5%. That means another one million more babies. With a traditional preference for baby boys, the boy-girl ratio that year was 120 to 100. When those Dragon boys grow up, they will face much more serious competition in love and job markets.
According to the BBC and Chinese government reports, January 2015 saw a peak of cesarean sections (剖腹产术高峰). Why? That was the last month for the Year of the Horse. It’s not because they like horses so much, it’s because they try to avoid having unlucky Goat babies.
Tiger is another unwelcome animal, because of its dangerous and unstable (不稳定的) personality. Many Chinese places saw a considerable decline of birthrate during those years.
Perhaps one should consider zodiac in a different way, as those Tiger and Goat babies will face much less competition. Maybe they are the lucky ones. I went through the Forbes top 300 richest people in the world, and it’s interesting to see the most unwelcome two animals, the Goat and Tiger, are at the top of the list, even higher than the Dragon. So maybe we should consider that it’s much better to have less competition.

8 . What are the Examination Systems in These Countries?
Finland
Finnish students are assessed based on their daily performances until they take the college entrance examination at age 18+. This consists of at least four tests: mother tongue and three other compulsory(必修)tests from second national language, foreign language, maths, and sciences/humanities. They can also take one or more optional tests like economics.
France
Lower secondary education ends at 15 when students take a lower secondary leaving exam, which consists of French, maths. civics education and history/geography together with continuous assessment from 13 to 15. After one year of upper secondary education, students can leave or continue their education. Those that stay on can choose from a diploma, a technical career or professional certificates.
North Korea
There is no national examination on completion of lower secondary education. But students may need to take an entrance-exam at age 15+ for some upper secondary schools. All students who wish to go to college have to take the national College Scholastic Ability Test(CSAT). CSAT involves written tests in subjects: Korean, maths. English, social studies, science and professional education, and a second foreign language.
The Netherlands
At age 15, students enter the second cycle which prepares them for specific and differentiated terminal examinations. It includes three cultivation routes: pre-professional secondary education, senior general secondary education, and a pre-university qualification. All require common compulsory subjects like Dutch, English, physical education. And their differences lie in some special career options and study burden.

9 . The idea to transform a mini treehouse into a school office didn't come to Williams at the start of COVID-19 pandemic. At first, like thousands of other school teachers, she tried to work from home. She has two daughters and her husband at home, and they have a cat and two quite large dogs. There are four of them in the house all doing jobs and distance learning. Surrounded by her own family, she had a hard time concentrating. It was Williams's friend who drew her attention to the cozy treehouse, where Nelle's daughters once played when they were smaller. Their friend Corey Hannah looked up and said, “you know, I think that should be your classroom for the year.” And so they thought about it and it sounded silly at first, but the next day they decided to go to Home Depot and Lowe's and look around, and then they said “Okay. Let's do it!”
The first thing to go through a transformation was a rope ladder. Williams needed something strong enough for her new office. The porch needed to be redone, so she went to pick out her favourite colors to paint it. Inside the treehouse, the ceiling and walls needed to be properly insulated (隔热). The floor was fully changed as well.
Most importantly, Williams made sure there was Internet access. Her husband and his friend Alex dug a 150-foot trench to bury the cable, and drilled a hole into their house and it's it. They worked all summer and finished just in time for the new school year.
Williams often has company in her treehouse office: her cat and dogs pop by. Her students love the space and often say “Oh I want one, I want one.” And since most of them chose distant learning in the spring semester as well, Williams will spend at least the next six months hard at work up in a tree.
